I've been using my S500 for a little more than 2 months now, (it's a week 27)and my keypads still havn't cracked yet... so I think it all depends on luck if the keypads crack or not. So far, the phone's been great. However, the buttons on the outside feel very loose, and the phone froze on me a few times. Everything else seems fine though.

this phone is not that good. only good for girls cuz of the colour. the w580 is much better than this cuz its a walkman player and this s500 is NOT. also this has no fitness program.

Don't kid yourself....The new batches have some of the same problems!!! I purchased the latest batch, ice purple, and it was defective right out of the box:
The 3,6,9,# keys were VERY dim as compared to the other keys which were well lit and the slider seemed loose. A very noticeable, obvious, defect and according to my dealer SE admitted to the defect but still plans to sell the phones with the defect as they did with the cracked key problem.
Can you believe it? Mt advice...stay away from this company. Someone posted the customer satisfaction numbers earlier and SE ranks last and there's a reason for this....duh!!
For those that keep asking if you should buy this phone.....You are fools to take so many complaints with a grain of salt!!! If you have to ask whether or not you should buy, after you have read the complaints, then you should go ahead and buy this phone, as you will deserve what you will get... so don't bitch if it happens.

Have this phone for a week already. I want to tackle 2 issues, which become the main concern of this phone.
1. Sim Card
It is not difficult at all to insert/eject the sim card. The slot comes with spring mechanism. To eject, simply push the sim card in. It will release and pop the simcard up.
2. Keypad
I must admit that the keypad is small and looks fragile. I have small fingers so no problem. I have been using the phone according to my normal behaviour/pattern. No crack so far.
Overall, this is a great everyday phone. Value for money: Stylish and versatile (dont need radio and 3G), light in pocket, AUD$199(prepaid with Virgin with $5 call credit).
If you experience keypad cracks, keep using for sometimes...I am sure 3rd party/after market keypad will be available in different material and wont be expensive...
for the price..cant really complain..

I don't own this phone, someone I know did. We though it would be fine at first because our friend works at the store and said there hadn't been any returns so far, but after about 2 months, the keys cracked.Personally I still love this phone, it's beautiful, and so's the display. It's camera and display completely beat the nokia 6300 despite the nokia being a 16mil display.
Personally, I don't think the paint is the problem, as some posts have said. Since there was no official report, and someone said week29+ phones are fine, but they're not. The keys only have support on the center of each key. Since the keys are thin, if the keys aren't always pressed exactly in the middle, then they may crack.

You cant exactly call people stupid for giving a negative feedback. Some people got the unlucky batch which is the keypad prob... if u got no problem with the keypad or whatsoever... you are one lucky SOB... no offense... its like a compliment of saying u are very lucky....
