Hey,

I'm considering getting the S500i but all these reviews are making me consider a new phone.

Are they really all cracking and stuff? Like un-illuminating and cracking keys and breaking slide things?

And do you guys think I should go for a different mobile?

Thanks =]

I've had this phone for about 2 weeks and the keypad didn't crack :).I hope it won't in the future either... If it does warranty will cover it. I've seen the green keypad that was replaced by a silver one and as they say, this one doesn't crack. But overall it's a nice looking phone and I'm happy with it :)

I was planning on buying this phone for my sis. I was unaware of the keypad problem and when I went to buy it the seller even recommended that I should stay away from it. After reading the reviews here I am glad I did NOT buy it. STAY put and invest your 350 bucks in a different product. I was such a loyal fan of SE but after p990 I am glad I switched to Nokia.

ack! all these reviews make me nervous.

however, as promised, here's a mini-update on my s500i, in contrast copper.

i've had the phone for about 2 weeks now, and have not noticed any significant problems. after i read the reviews on the 3,6, 9 buttons, i did notice, upon closer inspection, that these buttons were slightly less illuminated, but i had not noticed it until i was looking specifically for that problem. no cracking of the buttons yet either. also, my phone is a week 37, as i recall.

i thought that the battery cover was very difficult to insert, and i have no idea how i'm going to remove it when the time comes.

the bluetooth earpiece that i have works great with the phone, speaker is reasonably clear and loud. sliding function is fine, although, i noticed that the bottom of the sliding portion doesn't sit entirely straight and flush with the base when the phone is in its normal slid-in position. the gap is slightly raised on the right-hand side, like no more than 1mm.

the camera works fine --although i too wish that it had a flash.

the only thing i wish were really different is the vibrate function --i find that it is quite weak, and i miss calls as a result of it. not always, but i have to have the phone right near me in order to realize that it is vibrating. i doubt that i would notice it vibrating inside a handbag.

overall, visually, i really like the phone. it's not as white as it is portrayed in the marketing by SE, but it's still a pretty white/silvery color. as for whether you should get it, it is as your own risk, given all these reviews.

Pay US$300 for a phone and you don't care about your buttons cracking, or your slider becoming loose, or the 3,6,9,# buttons blacked out. Yeah right! Who are you kidding? If you are for real, you will report back in several weeks after your problems begin and be one of many who confirm that this phone is pure S#%&!

Love the phone! Been 2 weeks, no signs of cracks yet. Been avoiding button presses :P

I really don't care about buttons cracking anymore, I heard it feels better when it does. It's such a nice looking phone that I'm starting to care less about it.

Crazy loud speaker for a phone. Installed the w580i firmware onto it and now have the walkman player on it. And I managed to load back all of the themes and everything so you can't tell the difference. 4Gb micro stick works! (Good ol ebay!)

back again with more update. its OBVIOUS now that this phone should be stayed away from. keypad on the contrasted copper broke after 2 wks, luckily my spring yellow has had no problems other then randomly shutting off every now and then. anyone else have that problem? camera is great even without a flash. still unable to set up the "My Friends" to use the instant messaging feature. any idea?

Sony Ericsson (SE) went from 1st place in '06 to dead last place in '07 in customer satisfaction.

                                http://seekingalpha.com/article/50765-apple-s-iphone-builds-huge-lead-in-customer-satisfaction

It is time the consumer makes a stand against companies like SE that do not back their products. SE put thousands of customers through hell with the S500 cracked key problem and the slider problem and to this date never made a recall on the defective phones. Now they are at it again with the 3,6,9,# key illumination problem. The S500 is jinxed...stay away from this Phone!!!

Can you believe that they admitted to my dealer that sold me the two S500 phones that the 3,6,9,# illumination problem exists but it is just the nature of the design of the phone. Yeah right, we are just supposed to pretend that the, 3,6,9,# keys are supposed to be blank without numbers. How dishonest can you get?

Folks, it is time to call a boycott on SE phones for what they have done to their customers. Through forums like this we can spread the truth about SE and make them pay for their bad business practices. But it will require a united stand from the general public to hurt them as they have hurt us in the pocket book!

I posted a very important post regarding a new defect in the most recent S500i phones and you did not post it. Why? Surely you are not in the hip pocket of Sony and don't want your readers to know about the 3,6,9 illumination key problem. I am very disappointed to know that you are a biased organization. You should be ashamed that you have joined the corrupt media in not wanting your readers to know the truth about this problem plagued phone.

I just received my two ice purple SE S500i cell phones. If you are trying to decide whether or not to buy this phone....DO NOT!!! I am sending both back as the 3,6,9 numbers are blacked out without illumination. In the daylight you can see all numbers except the 3,6,9 and in the dark you can barely make out the 3,6,9, numbers.

Also, the phone while pretty, is not functional. The kepad numbers are way to small and the last row is too close to the curve at the bottom which interferes with pressing the last row of keys.

Also, consumers Sony should begin to punish Sony for their proprietary M2 stick and phone jack as it just makes life more difficult and expensive when purchasing accesories.

Also, the extra thickness as compared to the G-600 makes it much more difficult to use when going back and forth from the keypad to the top slider buttons.

This phone is not the light show you think it is at least not worthy of sacrificing the functionality of other better designed phones.

Don't say you weren't warned. If this phone sold for $200 or less it may be worth a shot.
Even at $200 it can't stand up to the functionality of the old W810 or K750 although it is nicer looking.

If you are looking for style and functionality, my advice is to spend the extra $100 and go for the Samsung G-600. While you can't get the G-600 in the swank colors, it is a very beautiful phone and probably the best on the market as far as overall functionality, beauty, and quality, although without 3G.

I will never buy an SE product again. I for one am tired of their slew of different models all with the same basic design at the sacrifice of quality. If you are not aware, SonyE cell phones rank at the bottom of customer satisfaction.

I should have done my research. However, now I can save you the trouble.

Hi, i was just wondering if when you're talking on the phone, are you still able to send messages and check your messages you've received? beacuse with my phone, if im on the phone and i receive a message, i can't check it unless i hang up, so i just wanna make sure... THANKS
