The lights are on down side whenever u use phone u cant turn them off its annoying when backlight goes off the sidelights do go off but u cant turn them off when u just want 2 very annoying

i did speak to a sony ericsson representative on the phone, and she told me that the keypad repair under the warranty will largely depend on how detailed the receipt for the phone is. basically they are looking for proof of purchase, regardless of whether the phone was made for the european or chinese market. she said that the receipt should have the IMEI (?) number for the phone, the name of the retailer, and my name on the receipt. (there were more details she mentioned, but i do not have the list in front of me.) i'm hoping that i'm safe with the white/contrast copper phone, and that the ebay retailer is legit enough to provide a detailed receipt.
beoda, thanks for the updates. you can find out the week on the back label, where the battery goes. the number should appear as "07W--".

jky - I'm from Australia, not sure about ebay. maybe someone else has experience to have phone fixed from ebay. You can try email SE as I suggested, they might come to the party.

hi...it's a nice phone,i'm going to buy it,someone can tell me about the light beside how does it work ? is it when people call in then will show the colour i've select? Can i know what different of VGA camera with those megapixel camera?

If keypad cracks after short period u have right to whine whatever the colour some people dont have chance etc to read reviews keypad should crack at all this phone is for sale anyone want 2 buy mine when keypads fixed lol i hate the phone the lights up side get annoying wasted my money

Ever since i saw this phone i knew i had to get it. Have to wait a week or so though as it hasnt arrived here in australia yet and im not takin my chances gettin one off ebay as i heard they are bringing in new editions without the keypad issue. so here's hoping this phone will be one of the best i've bought so far :) replacing my old nokia 6280..

jky - You can give this a try. In google type "sony ericsson" and search. Click US to take you directly to US site. Click "support" on top menu, goto "by email" and select phones. Enter your particulars to send email, good luck, may the force be with you.

when sony do get the new batch,I hope the price will stay as is,around $270 here in Jakarta,Indonesia.don't tell me the price is low right now because sony knows that the phones were defective when the released it.

kanga --where are you located? i'm in the states, and i'm not sure if sony ericsson is going to honor their warranty for phones bought from a retailer on ebay.
i will post here as well to let people know about the contrast copper phone.

okie dokie...im BACK! ive had the phone for two days now and no signs of cracking (and hopefully forever) hehe..i went ahead and bought the spring yellow color and my cousin got the contrasted white. read all the new comments and i have to say, STOP buying the mysterious green ones if you are gonna whine about the keys cracking. these responses are here to guide you :) i just love the design of the phone. its awesome!! will update again after ive had it for awhile to let you know my status and for those who would like to know if the contrasted copper has any problems. until then have fun with your phone. i know i will *fingers crossed*

The keypad problem is being addressed by Sony Ericsson. Excerpt from recent email on 10 October "rest assured that this will not affect the functionality of the keypad or phone and that all future releases of this product will have had this particular problem addressed and resolved. If you happen to purchase an S500i and do experience this problem it will be covered under the standard manufacturers warranty". It may pay to wait a while, as they are not saying from which batch or time frame when this will be fixed. They replied to my email in less than 24 hours, which is pretty good.
