Unfortunately the cracking of the keypad is true. As for the issue of the models before week 27 only being defective I do not know. I have an S500i and yes my keypads did crack after only having the phone for a week. I called the sony ericsson customer service and they did repair the keypad free of charge because of the warranty.

The sad thing is they replaced the keypad and a week later it's beginning to crack again. I'm assuming they don't have a definite fix for this problem as of yet. I love phone. But it's not without it's flaws.

I'm an average guy...I don't have big thumbs or fingers...I don't press the keypads with my nails if anybody is wondering.

                  I hope this helps.

for the phone owners who replaced the keypad a couple of questions :
1 - does the keypad sold sepratly ?
2 - does the new keypad work fine ?
3 - is it easy to replace the keypad ?
                    4 - is the w27 issue true ?
i am buying this phone from anthor country
so that why i am asking the stupid questions
                    somebody help me thanks..

hey ppl .... the phone does have a keypad problem so the W27 thing is crap. Also i've heard that apart from keypad, the firmware (or hardware ??) too is defective. So that makes the whole fone a not so good deal.

And i just wanaa ask if the w580i has the same firmware in it because if it has then its all the same coz its keys too break.

Plzzz do reply if anybody has any opinion.
                      ^_^

I've been using S500i for 2weeks+ and it does has keypad problem.. 2,3,4,5,6 have cracked.. Wish no more crack after this..
Mine is w27.. Don't have the chance yet to get this phone to be repaired, maybe later..
But I do love this phone so much..
The colour of this phone is great though it is 262k and the speaker is loud, maybe 2x louder than W810i..

Overall, this phone is great !

When the keypad breaks, you can still use the phone, its still fully functional from my own experience and from others I hear, it's just cosmetically unsettling. SE does recognize the problem, it is covered under warranty no matter if the CSR says the general "wear and tear problems like broken keypads aren't covered under SE warranties, if they were everyone would blah blah blah...", they need to check and they'll find that the S500 *IS* covered due to all the complaints and they'll fix it.

Just got the phone today, I like the design a lot, think it is rather funky. However once using the keypad found that the phone is a little flimsy and the phone is a little slow to load up from opening. If your looking for a phone that looks good then this phone is ideal and to what people say on the battery life isn't totally true, been using the phone on and off for approx 9hrs,(as at work) and battery still has 80% left (Haven't called anyone from it though)
Only warning is that this phone is not going to take a lot of punishment so be gentle
