the phone will work with US ATT (which I have too). I've used many unlocked foreign ericssons in the past; att uses an 850 band for calls, and edge for most data. there's only about a 50% chance that they will be able to make multimedia messages work, but calls and internet should be fine.

I just need to know if this phone feels and looks cheap. I know that its light but does the keypad in most cases crack, it seems that we are hearing more bad thing than good things about this phone. Im massive on text messaging going through about 2000+ txt's per month so i need a keypad that can handle that much txt messaging.

@David Vargas:
The phone comes out with special iterruption force feedback keys that will allow you to press the keys with all the power you have.So you will train your finger muscles and biceps.
PS:Sony Ericsson works on a S/E 500 competition for Key Pressers!!
Because:Thats important for Sony Ericsson...

hmm. Can anyone confirm if the purple one that someone is an official color or if it's just a rumor/hoax. I like this phone and am thinking that I will wait the purple out. if it's a hoax, I'm SO going to be wasting my time. :(

The problem with the keyboard quality is starting to be real pain in the ass for all the new owners of the device.
My wife had been using the phone for 2 days when key '2' broke in half without any hard pressing. :(
On a Russian forum there are lots of messages concerning this problem. Some people have all of their keys cracked already!!
I consider SE to replace keyboards free of charged with better ones! Otherwise they SUCK!

nice phone~ love the design.
nothing special about the fcns though because it's basically same as some previous SE phones.
My only 2 complaints are the shiny surface (fingerprints show really easily and you gotta keep wiping it) and the # keypad. It's easy to use, but it feels so fragile. I gotta restrain from pressing the keys with my nails cuz it feels like I just might crack them.

for those who opt to see the camera samples here is some samples from esato:

notice that the jpeg compression is not strong as compared to the mediocre shots from W710, K610, W850 and so on

I've had no problems with texting. Keys are the same used for W800/W700, very comfortable to use :)
The thing I LOVE about my new S500: the lighting effects. It's it UNIQUE feature. You can check them out here:

Anybody have anything to say on the keypad?
According to Mobile Burns review, " The keypad keys are usable, but definitely feel like they rest on top of a single slab of rubber, like many keypads did in years past. They aren't what I would term wobbly, but they certainly don't feel like they are all attached to the phone independently, either. "
And from other readings, the keypad on this S500 and W580 suck. Does anyone agree or disagree?
I'm still using a Sony Ericsson T610 and love the keys on it but want to upgrade to this but I'm big on texting so I need good keys

What does everyone think of about the keypad?
I've read 2 reviews on this phone, one said the keys were horrible and texting was a pain, the other just said that the keys were wobbly and cheap. Does anyone else have this problem?
I want to buy this phone for my girl but she is a big texter and the keypad is very important to her. She is currently using a SE W810i and likes those keys but she didn't like the keys on my K800 and my W800.
Can anyone give me their opinion on the keys? Thanks!
