Well, from what I've heard S500 and W580 are virtually identical with the primary differences being the different looks and that W580 is a Walkman-mobile with Walkman-abilities. Otherwise, they are pretty much the exact same mobile. This is nice as people like myself who prefer to use a mp3-player instead of a mobile don't have pay extra if they want to get an SE slider. And obviously the Walkman-keys in W580 would also be an irritation to those who wouldn't use it as a mp3-player.
And those of you who are still asking the same questions: apparently S500 will ship in selected areas in Q2/07 (that is within a month or so). Finland is a part of these selected areas and I should expect this mobile to arrive within 3-6 weeks. And the price? Well it's going to be slightly under what Samsung U600 costs (here in Finland a good deal for S500 is 399.90 euros).

This phone looks very nice... excellent in its design, indeed. It'll be much better if SE seeks to replace its memory type from Memory Stick Micro (M2) to a larger internal memory instead like what APPLE iPhone is going to have (imagine the 8GB's temptation that one will be drawn to in their case...), a 3G technology standards in replace of the slower GPRS packet-switched technology, and, a 5MP's camera like what is available in NOKIA N95 - this will be very much a complement to this well-designed SE phone and of course, an auto-focus and xenon flash too... Anyway, all these remain some good suggestions only to make S500 a really irresistible phone in the market!

Zico, indeed I am excited. I've had my Samsung D500 slider for almost three years now and desparetely need a new mobile. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find one which has balance between ergonomics and features. Samsung Ultra Editions are too slim and flimsy, LG Shine has got the design but not the usability and Motorola is sticking with that age old RAZR design.
I've got to be honest with you, being a Finn Sony Ericsson hasn't ever really been an option for me, but the truth is that this S500 might be the D500 reincarnation: that is a slider that has THE balance and therefore is better than other sliders.
One slider that seems kinda cool is Nokia E65 : nice looking (love the brown design) and nice features. However, some of you might now that that mobile is a bit buggy and that's a big no-no -- especially when E65 is one of the most expensive sliders out there.

I'd choose S500 over Samsung U600. The reasons? Well, S500 seems to have better ergonomics (better keypad, no wobbliness due to super slimness) and it looks better too. U600 does have slightly better features (3MP cam for example) but it's just too slim and flimsy for my taste. However, it has to be said I've read some comments from people who have tested S500 and they said that the keypad isn't the best and that the design is very plasticy and even makes those cracking sounds plastic tends to make. On the other hand, this is just one opinion and, remember, GSMarena has given good reviews to previous SE sliders.
I can't understand why people are obsessing about 3G. This is a fashion mobile, not a smart phone. The target group is woman or young men. Do you think with them 3G is a necessity? No way. Why add something to this mobile that will only increase the price and that isn't a necessity? If you want to use the Net via your mobile or something, buy a smart phone!
