this phone is brill! everything is amazing such as the camera, games, design,the memory, picture quality and ecspecially the sound quality this phone is excellent if ur into music this is the phone for you!

At last I've finally managed to repalace my N-gage QD for a sony ericsson w550 and let me tell u all that its a great phone and worth the money.
I've been using it for 2 weeks now. The layout and shape of the phone are great but rather thick if u wanna put it in a pocket.
The screen display is good enough and really bright in the dark.
The keypad is comfortable to use since the keys are a bit larger than other mobiles.
The camera is 1.3 megapixel with nightmode, funny frames, burst mode, and also a flashlight to help u take photos in dark areas.
The photos on a PC look nice but keeps u wishing for more and also the same for video clips.
nightmode in this phone is just a bad option in the camera..The pics are blurry even when the flashlight is on..but u can get better results if u only turn of the flash without activation of nightmode.
The phone has a shared memory of 256MB and that leaves about 232MB for the user. I think its a really good memory to store photos, and MP3 songs.
The walkman is just the masterpiece of this great cell phone. The sound is really great from the loudspeakers or the included headsets and even on a bluetooth headset! This walkman application has a stereo widening feature which allows u to make the singer's voice as an echo.
It also has an equalizer with the megabass feature. You can also set ur phone on startup to use the walkman only without logging into the GSM network if u were on a plane or a place the mobile phone usage is prohibited.
The FM radio is also a good feature in this phone. It supports RDS (radio data system) which is a small text line broadcasted from the radiostation that gives u advertisements and also information about the played song or program or news.
Unfortunately u cant use the sound equalizer for radio but the sound is ok. the radio suppots auto save for stations and automatic scan. u can also rename ur 30 saved radio stations.
In the entertainment section, you will find interesting Java Games, Music DJ, photo DJ and Video DJ which allow to edit ur pics, videos, or creating a new MIDI ringtone.
A simple sound recorder is also located under entertainment and it also records calls without any beep during the call. That means this dictaphone saves ur privacy.
Messaging is average for all sonyericsson phones and it supports SMS, EMS, MMS, instant messaging, and also voicemail.
the reaction of the keypad is good while writing SMS but a bit slow when adding spaces or when moving back to letters after number mode.
the browser of this phone supports GPRS (at least in my network operator)its really simple to use and the webpage is neatly displayed on the phone's screen.
Infrared and bluetooth are simply compatible with all other phones and PC's and u will find no problems. You can also remote control ur PC using ur W550 that means controlling the mouse, keyboard, and also viewing phone pics on ur PC screen!
The organizer section contains alarms, world clock, calender, tasks, notes, timer, stopwatch, calculator, flashlight, and also a code memo to save certain codes and passwords.
The phone also has a great file manager in order to organize, rename, delete,and move all file types. Ofcourse files that are not supported are automatically sent to the others folder and u can send them via bluetooth or infrared.
The phone themes are really intersting. They can change the layout of ur phone and the wallpaper completely. Orange themes are the best. and u can download more SAFE themes from http://myw550.laysk.net
The package of the phone includes a headset, charger, menus, quick guide menus, USB cable, and also extra ear plugs 4 ur headset and also a white extra cover which ads a more classic look to the phone.
Changing the front cover was problem since it was very delicate and hard to pull out and that caused my white front cover to break but no problem since the orange one looks really great on the phone but not everytime or in formal meeting or something like that
There are also grey and black covers available for the phone and black is nice also.
The phone could be easily connected to the PC via cable. A windows XP operating system will recognize the phone as a USB external drive.

Hi Vivi,
R u using any MP3 as the ringtone?...In that case the song will continue from the begining untill the ring ends. In case of some Nokia fones, there is a option "Ring Once"....but in SE W550i, there is no such option. I can't find the real reason here. If the problem continues, u may go to a nearby SE Service Centre to check what is the actual problem. Hope the problem will b solved soon.

Hi Just Curious,
First of all I want say that we can't know how much memory is reserved for SMS (in terns of Kb or MB) in W550i. In specification it is mentioned that the Contacts capacity is 1000 but in case of SMS nothing is mentioned (and for most of the fones available in the market, SMS storing capacity is not mentioned).
U can store msgs in ur SIM and Fone memory. In my country, India, I can store approx 48-50 msgs in my Inbox (I use a Hutch connection). Apart from that, u can store approx 17-18 msgs (depending on their size) in 'Saved Msgs' folder (this uses fone memory). Also u can store approx 20 msgs in the Template folder (this on euses fone memory too).
There r other 3 folders like "Drafts", "Outbox" and "Sent Msgs".....but they r not actually dedicated to store msgs. So it will b better if u store or delete msgs at the time of receiving...otherwise according to my knowledge, there is no scope to increase the SMS Storing Capacity by installing new Firmware etc.

i have this phone for two months now and i am happy with its features. the picture quality is excellent and the speaker sound is very clear but i just have one question why is it not 3g capable.

this phone sucks i had it for about 6 months and it shut down like once a month it just stoped and on the 6th month it just stop workin' i do not recomend this phone to anyone it will brake sooner or later now i'm gettin a konia 3250 hope it'll be better

hey all...have had this phone 4 approx 4 months...n itz da best thing i ever invested in...i dun even mind not haveing n expandable card slot because i dun have a lot of songs n stuff 2 out in it...the only little query that i have tho, is the memory dedicated to storing sms, both sent n received. is there anything i can do 2 allocate it more memory space so i dun always get the message 2 delete more messages from either my inbox or outbox?just curious, n i would appreciate any comments or help any1 can provide, thx so much in advance!
