the white screen problem happens in most sony ericsson phones, and w550s are having the most of the cases. the phone hangs up and then restarts with a white screen. there is nothing on the screen. it can be said that a w550 is dead if it has the white screen problem. the software version R4AB048 (the first software of w550) is the most affected. other software versions are somehow not too affected.
to avoid this, please read my past message.

some tips to avoid the white screen:
-CHECK for updates monthly.
-do NOT use the disc2phone pc software.
-do NOT install java apps from unknown/unpopular developers.
-if your phone hangs up and then restarts to standby automatically, you MUST restart it again. turn it off and let it REST for a while.
-let the phone to have AT LEAST 30MB memory space. do not wait for it to ask you to delete some files, if the memory is already full.
-if your phone has the white screen, please bring your phone to an AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER. some unauthorized service centers install a firmware which is not developed by sony ericsson (a firmware which is from other developers; it might damage your phone).

there's no way to extend the video length.. it depends upon the free memory space of your phone..

hello everybody , i am planning to buy this phone tomorrow . anyone got any suggestions as to whether i should go for any other phone of this range , or shud i stick to this one? also if anyone who uses this could list me the pros n cons it would be great...thanks

the white screenie is jez a minor problem...every phone has a problem...keep that in mind...and upgrade software is FREE...and while usin ur fon and this white screen thing accurs...jez hold the off button for sum time...it will either off ur fon or ur fon will still be on and will function properly...and to solve it...upgrade the firmware...btw...this fon has been with me for almost 1 year now...after i upgraded fon...no white screenie...other than tat..this fon ROXX...EXCELLENT sound quality and user friendly...enjoy..

I been using this phone for 5 months
all i can say that this is a good phone.Its
unique style that i really love most.The Speaker is much louder compare to others sony new model.Downside i can see in this
phone is have no expandable memory.But Right
now i have 70 mp3 on my cellphone.And i have
19mb free memory.Including many games,pictures,etc.Just compressed your mp3 songs and you have a lot hour of music.

Just got this mobile today...... really cool mobile... great 3d games, wonderful speakers, gud memory, it has absolutley everything. There is no such thing as the white screen of death if your gonna but this cellphone now. Recomeneded for everyone.
ps. this phone looks much better in the universal blue colour.

ey guys I'm from the Philippines but I'm here right now in Singapore and I've encountered the white screen. I went to the Sony Ericsson Service Center here and had my phone checked but no use they werent able to ix it. If its about the Firmware can you guys help me? I would have gone for them if could afford more money :(
ANy Nokia lacks the looks and style that sony ericsson has ...aslo i have heard that W550 has got the best speakers till date in a mobile...
could u explain me why you think that it is not a good phone

I am planning to buy this phone this week. Can someone temme if there is any other way to update other than thru GPRS...??
Can we update thru USB?? Also once someone gets white screen how is he supposed to update??

if you have questions about w550, you can email me at jmg_32188@yahoo.com.ph.
in order to avoid the white screen, you must download the latest firmware via gprs. do it as soon as possible. if you have w550 newly purchased, update it immediately. the update service is located in the settings menu. that is the only solution to make your w550 enjoyable.

i used this mobile for 5 months...durin that it got struck twice...d white screen...its heck usin ...but the music is truly good...now i am gonnna buy k 750i ...think twice guys

Hi - I have been using Sony mobiles since a long time and this Walkman phone is amazingly good with cool sound controls.. but i feel the camera could have been better!!!!!!

If any body wants to buy this phone then first go through the details review in http://www.mobique.com/sonyericsson/w550/page1.php.........u will have the most organised details review of this phone. In India, particularly in Kolkata, this fone costs around Rs.12,300/12,400........I dont have the fone. I am presently having N3230 but surely after going through the review of SE W550i, I am amazed.......i must have it.The above mentioned site has 9-page wide review with many screenshots, videos..........read it before buy.....
And last of all, if anyone wish to buy a music-phone, just go for W550i......it is gorgeous...!!!!
