It is slimmer and ligter than any other slide
phone... geat style...
I had a confusion between w810i and w580i
The dealer did'nt had a dummy piece..
I took a risk without knowing the performance of this phone.. but ultimately
took this... but this one's stylish looking...
First thing I noticed is that this phone lacks camera flash(tai tai phis).
Sound is not that great(almost equal to N70).
and the keys are not that fast(compared to N70) so I don't think this phone is worth buying at 13,200 INR..
The real and proven performer is w810i..
Don't buy 580 if you want performance..
Other options are - Samsung 3.2 MP slide model(same price as this one), N70 or straight away w810i(11000 INR). or wait for the prices to come down for this phone it may come down to 11000 INR (because it lacks flash)....

I have read that if the phone was manufactured after week 22, the keypad problem was fixed. How do you tell when it was made? I have one on order and Cingular told me they couldn't guarantee I wouldn't get shipped one, but I could exchange it once I received it. Does it say somewhere on the box?

hey...i just bought the w580i last week and so far i love the fone....even with the fragile keypads...i'm not too fussy with that...but the problem i have with the fone is the battery life which is terrible....i didnt know that before i got the fone....does anybody know how to turn off the lights?

Got the Phone in Mid August. Seriously bad battery..Less than a days usage possible..If you use radio/ walkman..better be on charge all the time.
Now the worst part..The phone got software bugs within 10 days of usage and got into serious"Hanging"..Gave it to 2 Sony service centres...No avail..they dont even have a new phone to replace my old one..though they are willing to replace ...
My advice..DONT BUY HTIS MODEL..Its a huge failure..

Just boughth this mobile a week ago. Before this i was using w810i. Battery of w580 is on very low side as compared to w810..this is may be due to the fact that screen resolution of w510 is very high and also due to those cool fancy lights on both sides of the phone.
Apart from battery issue this phone is working fine uptill now. very stylish..good features..but dont buy this fone under two conditions:
1. If you are an sms freak
2. If you dont want to put ur cell on charge after every 18 hours.

Very pretty phone but the keypad problem is very serious, no matter if the warranty covers it or not, they pretend that people buys a phone to get it repaired for sure in less than a month?? They must be kidding!!! Customers deserve some respect!!
Maybe if they sell it for 100$ I'll buy it then......

ok guys, i went to the s.e website and emailed and commented the keypad cracking problem like about 3 days ago. today i got a response and the representative said to me listed here: A small percentage of the early keypads used on these phones may experience cracked keys under normal use. The affected keypads were used only in initial production. If you experience this issue, the phone may be sent in for a warranty repair to correct the issue with a keypad that was not affected. and thats all she said to me.

just got this phone... enjoying it so far... only problem im having is some of the ringtones i loaded cannot be assigned to a contact in my address book... the others can be assigned fine. they are all in mp3 formats.... does anyone know why?
also, anybody tried creating their own screensavers? i was wondering if it till take flash files for screensavers...

what? this phone comes with small speakers?! what kind? i dont think it comes with it only the handsfree. and the light effects, why cant u turn it off when it uses too much power? and r u sure it uses too much battery life?

Ohh yes I forgot to mention, the light effects drain the battery like you couldn't believe, you can't turn off the light effects. I did a test with 51% of the battery and after 30 mins of taking pics & video clips the batery was down to 17%. Another pro is the great sonund this phone has, the music is crear and performs really well with the small speakers (included)

I got this phone in early august.. I had the w800i, I'm very happy with this phone except for the picture quality, the w800 takes way better pics than this phone even tho the camera is 2.0 mpx aswell. the pics come out dark and blurry. This phone has no flash and the phone itself it's kinda flimsy.
Other than that the phone has great features and it's very easy to use!

Hi. I have read that the "keys cracking" problem is with only some batches. Make sure you buy with manufacturing date after week 27 of this year. Even though the below news (link) is for S500i, it applies for W580 as it has similair keypad.

Its up to ur choice... here i sum it up
W610-Walkman, small, TFD( less battery comsumption), camera has flash and autofocus, cheaper than w580
w580 - walkman, slider, TFT and side light effect (battery comsumption is crazy), camera has no AF or Flash, higher resolution screen than w610, more expenseive than w610, keypad could break(mine havent break yet), speaker louder and clearer than w610
Hope this helps u to think well. Personally, i go for w580 unless u can overlook its faulty keypad like i do :)
