for all regarding the speaker volume. if you invest in decent phones and ditch the stock sony ones the volume is fine, unless you want to be deaf in a fortnight.
just how loud do some peole need music? believe me its well loud enough!
it's a great phone i'm well pleased i got rid of the n70.

@ bonbonita...may i ask you from which country you come, pls? Since you've got the latest firmware (CXC1250318 R4CE012000000) i might try to update mine from your country's side. Thanks

@ frank, re-firmware update, it's in here somewhere, be patient and scroll through this forum. About the screen, either you wash your face thoroughly, just kidding ;o) or do what I did, I used Johnson's wax polish sprayed a tiny bit on a lint-free cloth (cloth for specs cleaning is fine), wipe off the smudges and hey presto! clean as a whistle! Best if you buy a leather cover or a plastic one, depends on your taste, to protect your phone!

There is nothing wrong with the speaker nor the volume. People just don't seem to realise that you have the ringtone volume and then you have the master volume. The master volume defaults to 4 (out of 8) everytime you turn the phone off and on but with the master volume at 8 the speaker is plenty loud.

Just on silly q...i'm transfering my converted avi to qt file (only 9MB) to my MS using USB cable, but it's always failing. What could be my problem? The file being either an original Mpeg or the converted one, are both failing to be transfered to the Memory Stick/MSSEMC/other folder or should it be another one folder, which I doubt? Also why is there another MP3 subfolder in the Memory Stick when there's the subfolder MSSEMC/Media files/audio/New folder?...I created 'My Mp3 Files' folder.

Vince some just have bought newer phones so obviously newer firmware. Some like Arj took theres to service centres who updated it for them. Possibly they just see the new firmware as a bug fix and are only giving it to service centers for now and will upload it to the web at some point in near future. I have no bugs with my phone so not in any rush to update. Actually I have one bug to with the background of the animations in SMS messags when I view my sent ones but it's no biggy. All I can see updates doing for me is possibly speeding up picture taking and minor things like that.

Gaea I have used Motorola for years and when I tried the K700i I found th etexting to be crap but now I have a W800i and I have to say the texting is quite good. The T9 even comes with stupid texting slang such as l8r and m8. The only way I could see it being improved is if they had a character counter so you could see how many characters you had used. At present you just get notified when you go past 160 characters. Motorola has the best sending I know of because once you select send it just shows you your contacts and you tick any/all that you want to send to. This phone is almost as good because you press send then get the option of entering a new number or searching contacts but also it lists the last numbers/contacts you sent messages to for faster sending.

Hey how come others got a better firmare than ours Carbonize? I got CXC1250316 R4CE012000000 while bonbonita got CXC1250318 R4CE012000000 !
For Mp3 convertor I normally use either Nero or Jetaudio by Cowon...this morn I converted an avi/mpeg file to QT or 3GP but can't seem to d'ld them on my MS. Using my USB cable, kept on failing. Is there a better converter maybe that's my problem, but come to think of it, even an orig mpeg file was failing to transfer on both my MS & phone'e memory.

I'd really like to get this model of SE, compared to the W800, or a Nokia N-Series. I just want to know how sms-ing is. SE phones used to be pretty hard for messaging before, so is it easier/faster to type now or is it the same? Is it similar to the Nokia phones?I've never had any other phone apart from Nokia before, but I really, really want this SE! So, please help, & let me know asap.

Yes Arj it's very sturdy. This is one of the best phones I've had and it's also the one I have had the most accidents with. I went to put it in my shirt pocket and missed so it fell on the floor and bounced from corner to corner. Apart from some scuffing the phone is fine.

Just on another note about a certain person raving about AAC format. Maybe they should try and find an AAC encoder. The only programs I know that have AAC encoders that people cosnider even halfway decent are iTunes and Nero. I'll stick with MP3's encoded using the LAME encoder for now.

I recently dropped my w810 on the pavement when i got out of my car. Aside from minor scratches, the phone did not break, the battery cover did not disengage and it still works perfectly. So those asking about the unit's durability, Id say its quite sturdy.
