I was thinking about purchasing this phone within the next month but had some questions before; any help is greatly appreciated.

a. Does this phone have SMS (text) messaging?
b. If it does; how many can it store?
c. I currently have a Siemens M56; am I correct in my assumption that I can just take out my SIM and insert it into the W810 and have my conacts transferred?
d. Is it possible to set .mp3 files as ringtones?

Thanks :]

As I said the bundled headphones are fine but if you want to hear the true capabilities of the phone then grab some better headphones and you'll be happy :-)

I know cos I've done it with the K750 and now this w810

A lot of people (not only on here, but other places I've been) are saying the headphones that come with the phone are not good.

        They are excellent.

You just have to put them really far into your ear, they are noise cancelling earphones. Once you put them in correctly, you should know when you hear the great quality, you'll see what I mean about noise cancelling. You CANNOT hear ANYTHING other than your music when they are in correctly, even at low volumes. I didn't realize this until I was on a Greyhound bus ride and I couldn't hear well so I pushed them farther in. After that, the whole bus ride all I could hear was my music, and the only way I knew the bus engine was running was by the vibration of my seat, there was no audible evidence.

Make sure you clean your ears, though. :P

Luis, you DO have the latest firmware, the backlight is supposed to stay on, but it dims to conserve battery power. And you really DON'T have to charge your phone every 24-36 hrs. If the battery life is at 25%, it'll stay at 25% for another 7 or 8 hours, the standby time is very long on this phone. Try not to charge your phone until you have 10% or less, that extra charging can kill your battery life.

And yes, I am speaking about all of this from experience.

After having the ROKR this phone is so much more refined. The player has no limit, storage is awe inspiring, camera's primo, so much more user friendly. Top shelf, no comparison. If this was 3g it would be perfect.

've just bought my w810i a few days ago and saw that my software is the cxc1250316 r4ck003, my cda is cda 102555/107 r2a is this the latest software or do i have to update it??
--another question, every time i am talking on the phone with someone else, the screen backlight is on all the time, never turning off, even if i talk for 1 hour its on, and i assume this drains my battery, is this normal or should it go off after a few seconds, also searched for backlight in the menu and can't find it, some help??
-- I've been having to charge my battery every 24-36 hours, i only talk around 1 - 2.5 hours/ day, send around 5sms, listen to 2-3 songs and that's it, shouldn't my battery last longer, i have my keys with the sound turned off and my brightness on 50%.

Re-crackling sound thro speakers...mine do not, it sounds perfect, true. I've installed lots of mp3 files @128kbps, perfectly played. Even sound from handset is OK and also tried playing radio and heard my calls through speaker phone...sound is awesome! Really! One tiny problem is, I've converted mpeg/avi files to 3GP using a commercial software, but the sound is aweful as it reduces the original 128/192kbps to 64kbps or lower which sounds pocket-radio-like not as good as my mp3 files. Any good software, video converters for 3GP mobiles, out there pls? Let me know...in the meantime I'm enjoying my videos at shuffle mode and at full screen (go to menu when at play mode and choose 'Fullscreen') while taking calls....yay! SE thank you! :o)

Just to re-iterate some points now that I've had the phone for around 3 weeks).

I've found the speaker fine for playing music but however it's bad on calls when used as handsfree. Sound quality on mp3's is awesome when used with decent quality headphones (around £25ish) although it's quite respectable using the bundled ones.

Duo Pro cards are dirt cheap now and having previously owned the K750 before this I can say I'm very very happy with the w810 - it feels like quality cos it is...with one exception (which is sad cos otherwise I would consider it very near perfect) - THE CRAPPY SPEAKER HANDSFREE crackletastic not :(

If you can live with the last point then go NOW get it NOW buy it NOW upgrade to it NOW.

                    :-)

If your gonna play music from u phone buy the external speakers for it.

The h/set is quite a cool gadget

With some decent headphones the h/set sounds ultra clear and it's really good for a mp3 player.

Quite lightweight as well can't really complain for the price.

                        Can't diss the h/set

Thank you very much Arj, i will gladly appreciate if you check if your phone's backlight is on while making a call.
Also, how many more charges does my phone need to achieve it's maximum level??
Does it matter if when I first charged my phone i only charged it for around 4 hours? :S

Luisfer: Im guessing that the software versions vary from different regions. Here in Southeast Asia, the latest (accdg to SE) is CXC1250317 R4CK003. As long as there are no bugs, it doesnt matter which sw version you have.

As for your backlight, I have not noticed it while taking a call. I'll check and let u know. There is no option for changing the backlight setting. Only the brightness. One unique battery saving feature of our phone is that it has a sensor that detects surrounding light. If you will notice, the keypad light only turns on when you are in a dark place.

My battery lasts 3 days. I listen to mp3/radio for a couple of hours a day, play a few minutes of games, normal text and calls. Im assuming since your phone is quite new, your battery's maximum life is not yet achieved. Wait until a few charges, Im sure its life will increase.

Carbonize, regarding the sms space counter, our phone has it, just a different version. If you are down to your last 20 characters in sms1, it will count down. From 20 to 1 then it will show sms2 if you've exceeded it.

For sending sms to various persons, aside from the caller groups, you can also tick the names. When u r abt to send the sms, enter the contacts look up, then instead of pressing "select", you press "more" then choose "mark several" then u just tick the names. this way u can send sms to various people without repeating the process.

I've also had a motorola before and i was quite glad w810 has this feature too.
