You do not connect your phone but start the program. When asked sleect your language and click the arrow. You then get the usual legal notice you have to accept. Next is a question on what type of socket your phone has at the bottom. You then need to remove the sim card from the phone and put the battery back in. Then whilst holding down the C key plug in the usb cable and if needed the computer will start the hardware wizard. Keep hold of C until the program tells you you can let go. It will then tell you the result. I ran it twice to be sure. There is a PDF file with instructions you can download.

Hello again Carbonize. Sorry to bother you again, but as I said yesterday, I installed the software in my pc, tried to connect, but the program didn't say anything but kept on looping back to check my phone before connecting. Does that mean that I got the latest software for the time being? For your info, I chose UK for english off course. Hope that there's an update, as I would like to see, apart other minor changes, at least some digital/analog clock or other not a blank black screen! Regards Vince

ok installed the update program and did everything it said. Told me I already had the latest software installed. Maybe the firmware Arj has is only for the country he is in or Sony hasn't uploaded it to the net yet.

w800 is a great phone with a few draw backs well first thing it doesnt ring loud, it also dont play back music as loud as i expected the memory internal is 20mb and i think that is low for a big phone. apart from that its the best phone i ever had and trust me i past through alot including w800. i havent seen much changes when i upgrade the firmware.

@ Carbonize: Me again ;o) Just downloaded the UpdateService_Inst_2.6.4.9.exe file, but am not gonna update it until you do first, lol. I don't wanna crash my phone! ;o) If you do, Carbonize, it's easier for you to get another model, hehehe...just kidding! Let us know if you uploaded the file, OK? Thanks, Vince (in the meantime...just lovin' my phone, yup!)

@ Carbonize: Thanks for link, but u forgot to mention the following ;o) ...under 'Quick Links' (title on left side) and 'I have a SE mobile phone' (subtitle), click on 'Product Support', etc, but this is the link for update service to UK users:

You can move or copy any file. Simply click the more soft key and the option is in there somewhere.

Ok I haven't had chance to test this as I'm at work but there is a way to update your phone yourself.

Goto http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=global&lc=en&ver=4001&template=pg1_9&zone=ph and select your country (I have only checked on US and UK so far).

On the next page select W810i from the drop down list where it says 'Select a phone'

In the middle of the page you get taken to you will see 'Sony Ericsson Update Service' under Software and Setup. Now just download the program and follow the instructions. As I said I haven't tested this but will do when I get home tonight.

Damn... the price dusn't seem to fall at all.... And i'm starting to lean slightly towards Symbian now... I mean what really do you get from symbian? I guess mp3, camera software... but anything else really useful? Wish the W810 had better vid quality...

Hi guys,I'm new to the forum. Could anyone tell me about the sound quality of the device or is the playback quality comparable to standalone music devices(iPod to be more precise)? Thanx guys; any help will be much appreciated.

I got this to replace the K750i which I thought was excellent but the joystick broke after 8 months (like everybody else's).

This has a better nav button which feels like it will last. All the keys are more comfortable to use. The phone feels much better quality and the screen is sharper.

The camera takes noticably better quality pictures although it is the same resolution. The K750i was disappointing for a 2mp camera. They must have improved the image processing software. This phone doesn't have a lense cover though so be prepared for fingerprint blurs round your shots.

Apart from that, everything else is pretty much the same as the K750i (except it has EDGE) and access to the walkman functions is through a new button. A 512mb card included is welcome although the bundled headphones are poor quality - much worse than the ones that came with the K750i. However a 3.5mm adaptor is included so your iPod phones will work with it.

Vince simply select a country that uses the same language as you. All an update will do is fix bugs and possibly change installed language file but as the phone has several languages you can choose from anyway .....

As to auto reply I don't use handsfree that often and I have it set so I have to press the button to answer. I may test later if I get chance.

As to battery life when just used as an MP3 player. I guess quite a while but I'm not going to charge my phone then just run it as MP3 player playing music till it dies just to answer your question.

First of all thanks Carbonize for your info. Curious about Tangoman's question...does the handsfree auto reply works after 2,3 or 4 ringtones, without touching any keys? I'm with Drew about software update. Unfortunately, Sony's website has no "Malta" country to choose from, (pffft and we're in the EU) so I contacted them to add us. It's gonna be hard for me and others to update the firmware thro' the net, so until now the only method is gonna be thro' a phone, maybe??? Any tips for this aswell? Keep the info flowing...thanks, Vince.
