striker- they meant that it was based on the technology. this meant that it would be easier for companies (service providers) to make the conversion and accessibility from 2g to 3g. it is also a simpler system to UMTS.

too bad this phn doesnt come with 3mgpx camera...or else it'll be THE NEW GADGET TO GET for 2006! wonder if there're any software upgrades for the w810...im jus glad they lost the joystick cuz for my w800 the joystick is gettin kinda loose (oopsy for w800 fans)ONE QN THOUGH: ANY PICS ON THE WHITE ONE? cuz i tink the black one really kicks a punch...a fresh color as compared to the white/orange funky feel for the w800...SE shd look into express on covers...or at least limited edition snap ons for ppl who wan a special feel/outlook for their phns and willing to PAY for it =)
for now only NK N80 will haf 3mgpx camera embedded...not to mention WI-FI...but their phns are always so bulky when they're feature full...SE stil beats them in packaging n size =p GO SE GO!!

thank you for your comments. oh i made a mistake. there is not protective plastic in this phone. if you look at photos, then you can access that there is a bulge/protrution that fully engulfs the camera. this means it protects the lens(in case you drop the phone) but does not hinder the cameras view. there is however a cheap and easily fixable plastic cover over LCD(has the same functions as the bulge)

wow man.that's some info n answers to many ppls questions.ive got my eyes fixed on dis fone,n im definitely gonna buy it no matter wat (hopefully it wont cost much more dan w800).so i wos just wonderin if u or anyone here cud pls tell me wotll b da expected price.i hear its available in spain, comes at around 350 euros,n connection with some of da local operators.

Fantastic post, absolutely superb.
Although the EDGE thing did puzzle me a bit - I was always under the impression that EDGE was an upgraded form of 2G data transfer, and therefore the ideal feature for non 3g handsets. I take it from your post that I'm wrong about this????????

w800 fan- yes it will come with it. it will be standard with all the walkman phones of the future
sam- yes it will be the same bcos the internal memory represented shows the excess memory that we as the user can access and therefore all shared phone functions and abilities will be the same in effectiveness
San in the official press release it says it should be released before the end of march(Q1 2006). should be accurate like with w900
:) - the pixels is just right for a screen of that size. if you put more it will become blurry
Jack- the phone looks better, its newer(means better firmware), it has EDGE which means quicker downloads. who cares if EDGE is unpopular it is faster than GPRS
suxoid- watch what you say. UMTS= 3g. it is the frequency 2100 that NAmerica does not support.it can support 850 though.
jo- who cares about polyphonic ringtones. This is a WALKMAN PHONE and walkman=MP3
honestly what would you rather have/ care about
crossmatched- they did not need to introduce it positively. lens covers are not prerequisite in making a good phone. it is an option. the only reason why the w800 had one was because if you look at the back of the phone the was a lot of focus towards this area(silver ring)
drsilverwoman- no lens cover is not such a big deal. deceased memory is also not drastic(still have mem card). worse battery is a result of sony tweaking the battery so that over a longer time(2 years) the phone will still have a long battery life. also a result of battery becoming smaller
James- i agree with you. EDGE is ust a convenience, because some people like/ have to go on the internet through their phones. anyway you can do everything on the internet that you do on the computer on the phone(that is connected to the phone)
tony- hoooooooooold it man. dont be too drastic. it is a nice phone, but w900 is allround a better phone(except for size)
zeeshan-SE obiously no what they are doing. just like nokia they no that you can get around have a lens protector by intergrating a protective plastic layer that is part of the back cover over the lens. so that if the phone is dropped the plastic breaks and not the lens. this also means that you ust replace the cover, not the camera

Umer- what it means is that you can connect an external internet account to your phone, and the emails will automatically be sent through to your phone. you do not have to manually ask it to search for new mail.

they are all 3g. UMTS is just faster. oh and do you really think that it would be possible not to switch EDGE off. i mean if you could not, then the w810 battery would be very strong to reach such lengths of battery life.

TO ALL- i do not know how many times i have had to say this. EDGE = 3g UMTS = 3g. if you have no 3g=no EDGE=no UMTS. UMTS is faster ust because it is in the first group of 3g technology, which are the group that is a completely new system. EDGE is more of an upgrade to 2g technolgy. together with the rest of acronyms in this group, it will be upgraded over time, and become as good, if not beta than the UMTS group.

Kirk, people who don't have 3g data transfer need EDGE. The W810 is an UPGRADE to the W800 with improved features so how can the W800 be better? So what was the point in ANYTHING you've just said?
And as for the gay comments - like I say, must be denial. Be true to who you are Kirk, cos all this anger you have is being misdirected towards a poor defenceless mobile phone. You've been hiding away in the closet for too long. Time to come out.

awww damn i gutted now i wish i waited would of well prefered my HS in black cos i just got the w800i :( seems a lot beta the hs aswell with some features but not in others e.g. BT 2.0 and usb 2.0 aswell

This is good phone but like W900, it doesn't have lens cover.

It's a good phone, but i prefere the w900i for two major things.
The first is the 3G, 3G has higher download speed than edge, and at the same time it can be switched off to save battery, unlike the edge!
Second i like the design of the w900i far more than w810i, though w810i has a good touch of design.
