Thanks Mick. I'm not fussed about infra-red or radio, but the light is pretty damned useful. Wonder when SE will upgrade their cybershot phones to 5 megapixels so we can get 3.2 in the walkman phones. That's been a great help, think i'll just wait for the next one then...

well, if you look at my posts below, you can see what I don't like about it

I see the 850 as an upgrade to the 810. And I see the 880 as a step down in features to the 810 !

If i'm correct in my assumption that the 850 is a better phone than the 810 in terms of features, then I think you would miss the following:

          - Radio
          - Sound quality from internal speaker
          - The volume button on the 880 is much harder to use. (it's tiny, recessed and requires multiple inputs to change volume...ie you can't just hold it down)
          - Light
          - Infra red (i use it to sync with my laptop)

If none of these features are important to you, and you just want a cool looking phone, tthen it's a nice phone.

Any particular reason I'd hate the W880 over the W850? What is it that makes it so much worse...?

If you have an 850, stick with it, you will hate the 880.

                oh yeah..forgot to mention

the w810i speakers is ok to listen to..nothing fantastic, but good considering. By comparison, the w880 is awful and very tinny. (even on mega bass mode). Sure it's loud,..it's awfully loud.

megapixels ? i never complained about that..and don't care about cameras on phones. My opininion is they are all very average compared to a real camera, which is what I would use if I needed one. Megapixels are irrelevant if the ccd is miniscule and the lens is crap. but as I said, it's not a digicam it's a camera phone so i'm not complaining about it.

lastly, i know you think i just don't know how to use a phone..but i'm a computer nerd like most people on this forum. I reckon i know how to figure stuff out and even read a manual when i'm desperate. I reckon the bluetooth issue is fixable, but i decided to sell the phone anyway, so wasn't going to invest time troubleshooting. It didn't work first time so i wasn't going to bother with it.

You guys are funnny. Someone expresses that they are not happy with the phone and you get all agressive assuming that the only reason I don't like it is because i'm stupid.

If i have a phone that works well, and I buy a new version of it, which doesn't work as well..then don't i have the right to be unhappy ?

Do either of you have a W810i ? Have you used it and therefore know why I consider the w880 a step down ? If can do things in 2 key presses on a w810, which now take 4-5 keypresses, is that an upgrade or a step backwards ?

I knew the radio wasn't included so that's fine, but I sure as hell don't want to carry a phone and a radio in my pocket when I could just carry a phone.

I assume the bluetooth issue a problem of compatibility b/w the phone and handset. but if it works perfectly with my old phone of the same brand, then it's reasonable to assume that it should work with the 880

If you have not used the w810 walkman interface, then how can you say that the w880 is better ? On the 810, i can just hit the walkman button, and the last song plays..hit it again, and it turns off. very nice..on the 880, it bring up's the menu interface , which I then have to select play again. and if i want to browse artists, well there's another 4 or so button presses.

Anyway..i don't expect to convince you, and i'm glad you like the phone. All im saying is that i don't because it's harder and less functional than my 15month old W810i. Perhaps I'm just too stupid to get it...that can be the only explanation.

Just wondering, if I have a W850i, is it worth upgrading to thie W880, or would I be better to wait until its successor comes out...?

Very happy. An upgrade from my Motorola A780i.

-No Radio (DOES IT MATTERS?Get a cheap radio that only cost you $5/$10)
-Buttons are so easy to use (if you are fast learner then you will be able to get use to it. SORRY if you are not)
-Media Player is absolutely wonderful. Userfriendly and features are good
-Bluetooth pairing works fine with my old Motorola bluetooth came with my A780i(if you can't pair from headset to phone, then it's your headset problem or read the manual if you not sure how to do it)
-The speaker is loud and good enough to listen. (If you need to be lourder get MPS-60 or 70 speakers or just use the bloody headset)

This is what i've found after having the phone for 2 hours.

In my opinion... this phone is only for smart people who knows how to appreciate and cherish it.

I will be keeping it until something better release.

Good work SE. Great product. Get a real camera if you complaining about 5 or 3.2 mp.

well mick from oz, let me know when you find the perfect phone then..

The Media Player is a lot better, bluetooth works just fine.. only newbies can get it to work. You do know that it comes with a manual?

If you need a radio so bad, why in the world did you buy the phone?!

I of course have one.. Bought it within a week after it was released here in DK. I like it a lot.. I got a lot of looks from people when they saw it, until it showed in commercials.

not happy. a step down from my 15 month old W810i.

-No Radio (i knew that before I bought though)
-Buttons are hard to use (esspecially the volume button)
-Media Player is hard to use compared to W810i
-bluetooth pairing doesn't work well (i can't pair from headset to phone, only from phone to headset)
-the speaker is bad even for a phone (ie worse than the w810)

This is what i've found after having the phone for 12 hours.

In my opininion..the only good thing about the phone is the looks.

I'm selling the w880 an keeping my 810

Sony Ericsson has sent a mail round to journalists globally inviting them on Thursday 14th of June to celebrate the latest developments in "Sony Ericsson Music and Imaging", something it ominously describes as "the next big thing".

Is it new handsets? Of course it's new handsets! The invite goes on to boast "Be the first to experience the latest phones, accessories and unique applications" while we'll also get some tunes from Sony Ericsson's M-buzz artists.

Obvious handset announcements may include a successor to the W950 potentially equipped with 8GB of storage, the K850i a five megapixel Cybershot and the long rumoured 'Shinobu' Walkman handset which features tilt based music controls. On the other hand a touchy-feely screened mobile could be planned or even a global launch for the W52S? source:trustedreviews
