@ Booya
Well lets see phones don't need cameras to work, cars need pedals so you don't crash. So your point was pretty stupid in the first place.
People who want lots of music buy this phone, buisness people who work as laywers or something like that as they dont have a camera they can be taken into courts meaning its easy to take notes or something. I like many others don't actually use cameras on phones much Mankind made cameras for that job. If it had a camera the price would be even higher. Its logical really.

Folks,
I’ve been using this phone for 3 weeks now and I’ve come to the conclusion that once you get over the initial excitement of getting your hands on this phone and explore the many features it has to offer, it will ultimately disappoint in the very thing it’s designed to do – that is to be a high-end phone.
By far it’s most endearing feature is the sexy design, period.
I feel there are a number of serious issues and a whole lot of other concerns that one can live with. These include;
(1) You might as well not even bother using the phone in strong day-light as the screen is totally washed out. And I mean TOTALLY.
(2) The lack of navigation keys makes the phone [more] cumbersome to use in high momentous situations such as when you are getting off a train, or you are on the move etc. All is fine when you are sitting in an office and have all the time in the world to treat the phone with kid gloves.
(3) The keys are too close together and if your are not concentrating on pressing the right key, there is a greater tendency for miss-strokes.
(4) Battery life is appalling when screen brightness is set to 100% and 3G active
(5) The location of menu-back key is directly opposite the volume keys thus causing the user to invoke the volume keys when trying to lock/unlock the device.
(6) This is a Left-handed device. Can NEVER be used with the right hand.
(7) The software is slow and still lacks smoothness
(8) Can’t believe it lacks a memory card – Yes it has 4Gb but that is no excuse. Would be good to be able to share/swap files via a removable media (Sony marketing rhetoric. Also, without an external card, you can not load your music unless you have access to a PC. No Mac support? At least that I know of.
It’s a nice phone but not a great phone. For it to be a great phone, it must first be functional and natural to use.

@ Annu the phone in the UK is £450ish which is about equal to $850 (USA $) thats just an equation tyhough.
I think this phone is great looking to getting it on contract £140 for the phone £25 a month i think is good.
I see people saying oh it doesn't have a camera, that means its not 3G, 3G is given to a phone if it has a certain download speed of data from the web, its up from GPRS and WAP. Some people cant seem to live without a crap camera on the back, good thing is that as Sony took out the crap camera they had more room to concentrate on other features like the Touchscreen - after using one of these yuo will have wondered how you lived without one before. The 4GB of memory may be great for storing images taken if it had a camera, but it is a Walkman phone which is why it doesnt need a camera, Phone means something yu can call on, not something you take pictures with - thats a camera. When was the last time you saw a MP3 player with a camera? Exactly! The resolution of the screen 240x320 would be pretty damn good for playing back music videos and even films, you could get quite a few on 4GB.
As it is a smartphone the software is usually top quality, meaning it will have great featurews like the media player, it can support several features - Software can allow you to open all sorts of PC files on your phone if your on the train, Quickoffice opens Word, Excel and Powerpoint files and allows them to be edited. The touchscreen of course, better than any other walkman phone yet, you can quickly and simply skip to a section of a song instead of holding a button down waiting for your fingers to go numb as it takes soo long.
The only other phones to rival this are the Nokia (n90?) and SE M600i.
Whereas the Nokia also has 4GB its a Hard drive this tells you (if your knowlegable) that the power consumtion is going to be much greater than the W950i's as Flash memory doesn't consume anymore power, is quicker to access. Think of your PC RAM is used for memory whilst using applications as its quickly entered and deleted, where as a Hard Drive is used for storing data as its more stable (without virus') and higher storage space which makes you think why didn't Nokia shove a 6GB HDD in? Where as the Nokia has Wi-Fi your still going to need an access point, if your at home and you have a router you would still use your pc for the majority of internet use until free WLAN becomes avalible, if your out and about it costs to use WLAN... The M600i was the previous model that led upto the W950i, its basically the same, minus the 4GB and the Walkman section and different keys, but still the Walkman has more stuff the 4GB can be used for anything! movies, music, images, files!
Well that took some time to write although hopefully its more usefull than most of the posts here.

To Jack
Its unfortunate that there are morons everywhere.
And to everyone
I have used O2 phones for years. And I never used MMS, nor the lame camera it has inside. If you need good quality pictures that can last for a life time or 2, go buy a decent camera. Phones are invented to communicate through voice. Further functions are to trick consumers to buy their products. Reliability is what that counts nowadays which each and every phone now has its own defects. Give a break guys!!
No doubt that W950i has its own problems, but would anyone tell me that is there any phone that has no problems at all as promised by the manufacturers? The only ones i think of are the phones back in year 1998 where all stuff are made simple.

To Annu
seriously i donno what u mean by why the cost is in $$$ (money?).
To alicia
To make it simple about 3G, its just like having a broadband on ur mobile phone. Having a camera on a phone is like a webcam. Betcha your computer don't need a webcam to surf web rite?

Can anyone who has this phone please confirm sometrhign for me? When you have an album that is mixed, say for example a dance album, will the w950i play the mix and seemlesly flow into the next track since there would be no stop gaps (normally 2 seconds albums) or will the phone stop the current track, then restart and play the enxt track, basically breaking the mix?
It's something really important as my old mp3 player didn't mix in the tracks.

@ SeF
I think you misunderstand me.
This is what I mean- An iriver costing £200 sounds better than the equivalent ipod costing £200.
But an ipod costing £200 would sound better than an iriver costing £50..the old saying "You get what you pay for"

I owned todays both greatest music phones mean to say N91 and W950.I constantly used both of them, bot i m disappointed from W950 becauze of poor suond quality,i think N91 have a greatest sound quality.its truly a amezzing music experience when u put ur finest headphone in your ears, you wont regreat friends.I bet in all manners n91 is a gratest music phone especially in sound quality department. so think before buying the phone.make your right choice,i make a right choice and i m complitelu satisfied by my choice,i.e. NOKIA N91.

Sam:
you judge iriver better in price,.. what i want to prove is that could Ipod can be beaten in sound quality by any Mp3 players(mainly Iriver?) i don't care anything about Ipod, coz i personally don't like it, prefer more on creative's style, price and features but in sound quality none of the popular mp3 players(not even walkman) have matched it's quality, so i am requesting for a review site where it says that Iriver could beat Ipod in sound quality,..
for those people who keeps complaining about the lacking of camera or whateva,.. please contact sony ericsson management!!! and tell them, not all people needs MMS anyway, nor Videocalling at the moment, and even Wifi in which it guzzles too much juice,.. some operators are providing unlimited browsing for 3G web browsing,.. so why need for WIFI if there's 3G which is also reliable and easy to detect, less battery consuming, and offers high speed connection already(some/most of the providers including here in my location now also have 3G, other than WIFI in which you could always need locate for a local hotspots anywhere in this world...???

I don't have much idea about it, because I've just gotten my hand on it yesterday. However there are many thing that I do not like about Sony Ericsson W950i.
Main Disadvantages:
- Sound: never better than N91
- Speed: Slow, task manager is not good (normal users may find it runs out of member sometime)
- Design: Both hand hare needed and hard to use (not user friendly interface)
- Design, Botton: You will say NO if you like text messaging.
- NO Camera!!! You need to send MMS? No Way with your own picture!
- OS: Symbian UIQ 9.1 (few software add-on available in the software market)
- No WiFi: What is the large and touch screen with Internet Browser use for if no internet? GPRS internet? Think about the cost!
- No Left and Right Selection Key (You have to touch screen for the Call botton). That is very bad design!
Fews GOOD points:
- Music organizer with Album art
- Can share internet over BT (BT-PAN)
- A2DP profil (Stereo BT)
- Large storage space (not at all if compare to Nokia N91 especially the Music Edition)
- Storage use Flash Technology, not MicroHDD, so performance and power consumption is better.
For your decision:
Music lover? Get it now...! If you also like messaging... Buy a Sony USB Walkman (Network Walkman) 2GB for only 120$ which can play 40hs for one fully charge. And buy a Nokia S60 phone for about 2xx$, from both devices you will get out most for your requirement!
Enjoy your life!

Guys,
Are we supposed to be discussing phones (in particular w950)? I'm sure debates concerning the IPOD can be found elsewhere...I've been using this phone for a few days now and must say that SE have done an outstanding job. I had my issues with early versions of the M600 and the P990, but this phone is truely well thought through. My only gripe (so far) is that they keys could be a little more spaced apart as there is room. Also, to get the most out of the battery, it seems you need to reduce the screen brightness (less than 60%). I do think a camera would have made this phone complete. I know it's a walkman phone, bla bla bla, but now and then a camera comes in handy, and it would have been nice. Having said that, it's a great phone.
