Tsepz, 20 Jul 2008Now i understand you love your W960,its a nice phone, but f... moreIt's easy to make a company look rubbish when you list all the negatives. But for all that, I've yet to see any network providers refusing to range any SE handsets because of software instability. But that's exactly what happened with Nokia. Can't remember exactly which model it was, one of the camcorder style N-series phones and Vodafone UK simply refused to range it because even 6 months after the projected release date it was still too unstable. Every company has a product or two that meet with utter disaster.

And I guess the projected release date of October 5th is out the window. Because I'm sure that Eldar, a reviewer at an independant mobile review website, is gonna be better informed than the networks that are actually gonna be ranging the handset.

And as for him declaring that the N81 is the better music handset - a review is nothing more than one person's opinion. Besides, Eldar and the mobile review site in general are known for being biased against SE. But I guess none of that matters, because Eldar said so and I guess his word is law...

Revenant, 19 Jul 2008Hey, well done! You're now only one letter away from getti... moreNow i understand you love your W960,its a nice phone, but for a device that costs so much its missing things that even the cheaper N81-8GB has. Its already been proven that the N81 is the better Music Smartphone than W960, and that N81 has better sound quality, Eldar at M-R has done the tests and the better device (N81) won. You cant ignore the fact that SE are not as good as they used to be. Eldar has the X1 and C905 And has already concluded that upcoming the 8mp NOKIA and SAMSUNG will be better. He also highlighted the fact that the X1 may get delayd even further to December, according to him the talks with in SE are that the X1 will still not be stable even in a December launch and that this may only be fixed during 2009, and yet this is SEs high end PDA/Smartphone that will retail at an even higher price than the P990 at release, this is almost a repeat of the P990 story: delayed a lot before release, finaly released with shockingly unstable FW, many useless FW updates, features removed from white paper and fw and then SE discontinue support for it less than a year later and P990 users are left with the most unstable PDA/Smartphone that even fails to sync to the PC after sumtime, lets hope the last two thngs i mentioned dont happen to X1, but i cant believe you are prepared to make SE look like a great company with that in their past and with their future looking the same. SE KING? They are not any where close to it.

KC, 20 Jul 2008tried the mobile version. not working. any solution? Also, try this - with a browser window open, press "more", go to "settings" then "configuration". On the "display" tab make sure that all 3 check boxes are ticked. Also, have you tried using your network provider's connection? I know you wanna get it set up to use it through wi-fi but if you try via your network provider and it works, you know it's not an issue with your handset, but your wi-fi router. It may be possible that some ports need opened...

SE are, in my view, king for the simple reason that they're more reliable, the sound quality is better (despite a lack of super dooper sound chip - guess they don't need it) and they're more user friendly...

                  sorry reverant, its just habit.

but reverant how are SE the king? how? all their phones have worse proccessors minus the xperia which is an htc job.

their phones are always faster because they arent smartphones (minus this one, which is actually slower)

their phones have better battery lives because their proccessors clock more slowly and most do not have symbian to run.

SE dont have 3D acceleration in them or any of these super dooper soudn chips in them, nor do they give you universal ports.

the cybershot range have smaller lenses + smaller sensors than the Nseries range do.

and you're telling me SE are the king??

nick, 19 Jul 2008reverand man, the phones dnt encounter software problems. i... moreOkay, 1st up - every week at work I have a customer on the phone who has a software problem with one or other of the N series phones.

2nd - My W960 is just about as fast as my girlfriends N95 8gb, some things are slightly faster, some slightly slower, but on average about the same. And we're both using the latest softwares

3rd - .dcf files are usually copyrighted and there are not many mobiles that can use these as ringtones, not just nokias. >dcf files are usually downloaded via your network provider's WAP portal or some other online music store.

4th - Not sure if you realise this but when you call someone reverand, you're saying that they are revered, worshipped etc. So I guess I should take it as a compliment that you keep misusing my screen-name...

eyeH8 Nokia, 19 Jul 2008i think nokia is by far the worst cell phone company ever, ... moreDunno if I'd go so far as to say Nokia are the worst. Remember VK phones? Wow, they sucked. Really badly. And I'd rather have a Nokia than a Samsung or a Motorola, but that's just coz I don't like their menu layouts. None of this changes the fact, however, that SE are king.

Honestly though, this isn't really the place for that sorta thing. This thread seems to have become a place for Nokia fans to slag SE's and for SE fans to go on about how much Nokia sucks. I appreciate that everyone's entitled to their opinion, as well as their right to express that opinion, but come on - let's be a little more constructive and try and get this back to a place where people can come for help with any issues they have with their handsets. I'm not completely innocent, I've done it to a certain extent as well, but to be honest it's getting kinda old...

reverand man, the phones dnt encounter software problems. it's just a problem thats blasted out of proportion.

yeah they require a few software updates (they come out more regularily than the SE ones) but look at them after them. fastest smartphones going.

and to the guy who thinks nokias are the worst mobile company going...i have absolutely no dust under my screen!?!?!

and song copyright what??? it can play anything! it can also play more formats of music than this 'walkman music phone' can.

i think nokia is by far the worst cell phone company ever, they have wierd security copy right that won't let you put your own songs as ringtunes and they all somehow get dust under the screen which is personally a pain in the rear! even though they were one of the first to make cell phones ,i still think motorola, sony ericsson and samsung are 10000 times better than nokia will ever be, in my opinion i would never buy a nokia again it's just a big name with crapy quality i prefer the sony ericsson w960 over an n95 8gb any day anywhere.

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Could be worse - if Nokia were the only phone manufacturer then the vast majority of handsets would be getting sent back with software faults. I'd rather have something that doesn't do as much as the competition but actually does it successfully, as opposed to something that claims to do everything, but not until after you've fixed the problem with the software...

Yet another hard blow to SE: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7514296.stm they are firing over 2000 SE employees due to an even further drop in profits. With all that happening at SE i highly doubt NOKIA are worried about competition from SE, theres nothing that SE has released that can threaten NOKIA. NOKIA are more worried about competition from HTCs Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Apple iPhone-3G , and RIMs BlackBerry Bold and Thunder as well as the late commers SAMSUNG G810 and i900 Omnia.

and back to my previous point

95% of users of the n95 just get it cos its an upgrade on their contract and they dont know what the phone can do.

thats why it gets complaints about its speed because alot of the owners used java phones previously.

of course the n95 is one of the fastest smartphones out there.

and btw i doubt nokia are worried about losing sales to SE because nokia are so far in the lead in terms of mobile sales it doesnt matter. SE are 5th anyway.

they should be more scared about samsung, especially considering samsung are bringing out some new handsets.

the i850 is looking very good.
