W995, a Nutshell Review
My previous was w960 and my uncle has n86, I’ve checked n95 an 5800 closely. So, through the review sometimes I compare my Hikaru with them.
Design: it has a decent shape. Very pocket friendly, it’s not unique or eye catching, so if you are a person who wants to show off, it’s not a good choice. It’s not very robust; you should handle it with a little care. Overall, design is good.........7.5 out of 10
Music: as is obvious (it's a W series) the loudness is good and sound quality and intensity is great, beats any device. Concerning sound quality, no Nokia can even get close to it. About video playback, well, not spectacular, and its screen is 2.6, so it's not good for watching movies. But, who watches movies even in 3.5 screens?! This video thing is only a feature for bragging, not using. Big screen eats battery too. In variety of formats that the media covers in w995, just like in w960,Nokia music phones in the challenge are a winner. You can solve the problem by glass player and media player intended for java. 9 out of 10
Screen: though 256, has a high resolution, you cannot identify it when it's beside a 16million color screen. 8 of of 10
Hanging: it never hangs, even when the memory is full. But it has about 2minute lagging, when you take out and put in the memory, or when you turn it on. But it's only that first two minutes.w960 hangs but not as much as new Nokias like n86 or 5800.
Battery: simply...excellent.4days of moderate use. About 20 hours of nonstop listening. Nokia, one day, 2day-8hours playing... no chance before Hikaru. 10 out of 10
Operating system, interface: it’s a top notch, you may think that because it's not windows or symbian it's a loser, but it's exactly the reverse. It supports multitasking very smoothly. And except "answering machine”, every program that is for symbian-you can find java version of it in the net. 8.5 out of 10
camera: if taking pictures or recording is important for you, don’t even think about Hikaru, even 5 mega pixel camera of n95 is far better than this 8mega pixel W series phone. Pictures and videos in daylight are acceptable. In low light and night, what you get is a total crap; you can't even guess what's going on in the picture. 5 out 10
Conclusion: it's a good phone, you won't be sorry for buying it. But I believe that the ultimate walkman should be attired with touch screen. Not in the way of w960 or 5800 they are good phones too, but in the way of Apple.

w995 has d best music quality but how loud is it?is output through speakers like that of n81 and w580...is it dat loud or even louder...and is the stereo sound loud enough bcoz i have w760 and the stereo sound thru speakers is very low...

I was planing to buy ... moreI investigated a bit (which I should have done before) and found out that playlists are organized from the MEdia Go software, meaning from your PC . The phone itself has very limited file management options (rename, delete, information, send).
I've been transferring music last day , and still haven't started using it. I will start from tomorrow and lets hope the slider will stay as it is, and not become wobbly .
I was also unable to start the GPS in offline mode , still investigating. ...
The camera is poor compared to the Nokia Nseries, but this is only first impression, i need investigate more....
If I were you, I'd buy it only if you have option to return it (in some countries you cannot).
I cannot return it as I was stupid enough to buy it from Ebay.

after several hours spent on this phone, I must sa... moreI totally agree with you, browsing ur music is a huge hassle, that is if u get ur mp3s online like most of us do, if u buy them, like with apple's iTunes they are very neatly organised either by artist, album, genre etc. But u must admit that audio quality is superior to a lot of other dedicated devices, the bass and stereo feel of it tops most everything else out there, both in headphones and speakerphones. SenseMe I found quite useful as a way of making quick playlists without having to select any particular track. I never knew before I got my phone that mp3s these days have mood info integrated in them. I find a quite cool feature.

I just thought everyone knew about that menu since it's available on every SE phone ever made. Plus, if u access the menu on your SE phone, then select Service info, then model info and press 2,4,6,8 u'll get a message from Sony Ericsson :D free of charge. Enjoy.

I think only certain units have problems on slider. Mine's 1500 slide count but still intact. BTW thanks to the one posted about the slide count. Cool.

The sound is great for both inside n outside bcuz of stereo speakers n equalizer. The camera is a little bit poor compared to x1 (resolution is not clear), but the video quality is good n better than x1. The internet is easy to use with suitable screen 2.6 inches. But the price stil high. If possible, u should consider buying Aino or Idou.

Sony Ericsson, Sony is have long history in electronick, Ericsson is have long history in comunication, both is great and superb, but why Sony Ericsson not put jack 3.5 mm in all walkman phone?, sony use jack 3.5 mm in they oldest walkman,hallo product designer Sony Ericsson phone put jack 3.5 mm in all Walkman phone.
