AnonD-417, 09 Apr 2011we're going off topics on production and creations of techn... moreRAM and ROM r commonly thrown about terms when phone companies sell their phones but how much is enough and what does it actually affect.

                ROM: Read Only Memory -
It’s essentially computer memory that does not require power to store it’s data (non-volatile). In terms of a smartphone, it’s the internal memory where the OS is
stored. From what we’ve gathered, the internal memory is just Flash Memory (a special type of ROM) partitioned into two parts, one for the OS and the rest for apps to use. So,the OS partition essentially is true ROM.

                RAM: Random Access Memory:
                This is where current
processes that are running are stored and keep the data they need immediately available to them. This is the memory u see when u run any of the task manager showing u currently running apps and the available mem.

In other words, ROM is like your file cabinet where you store all your folders and files if you use an office context to explain and RAM is the secretary that you hire to find these files when you need.

                Running low on ROM Memory
If you are low on ROM Memory, it means you cannot install more applications on your phone unless you delete one or more applications that already installed - in case the phone does not allow you to store apps in external memory.

                Running low on RAM Memory
If you are low on RAM Memory, it means that total applications running in the background is maxed out. This will greatly slow down current phone usage or the current apps you are running. You need to close some of these background apps to free up RAM Memory.

                End of Part 1

                Coming soon: Part 2

we're going off topics on production and creations of technology. this should be a phone forum.
still I reposted my question, still waiting for answers

*what is ROM and RAM and how it affect the phone ?

*there's some comparison about LCD screen and SUPER AMOLED, what is the difference of the both types of screens? is it just the colour and display ? or has it got to do with the sensitivity of the touch as well? what about the burn-in I heard of?

*I understand that downloaded apps can be saved in memory card and does not affect the internal memory, but there is some apps that requires the phone's internal memory. so does lagness of the phone affected in this factor? is there possibilities, for example showing sign of lagness with the free internal memory is low ?

                    regarding the battery life,
*does LCD or SUPER AMOLED screen affects the battery?

*why does android operating system are said to have low battery management ? which operating systems are at best of battery management

                    * what does the CPU functions as? I heard a lot about dual core and single core, what's the difference of dual core and single core? Is it for gaming purposes only or does it improves the smoothness of the phone performance and other aspects as well?

I really hope I would receive clear and detailed replies from anyone out there who knows about it, I'm really interested into getting a good phone for myself but I'm not that wealthy to make the wrong choice. it's one chance and I consider all my factors in it.

I hope this few questions posted could be a discussion as well for further understanding to the other GSM arena viewers. thanks for taking time reading this post from a confused phone user =)

i live in UAE and i bought Arc and the Navigation option keeps on "Checking Navigation Availability" forever and i dont get anything out of it. But Google Maps works fine. I subscribed to a Data package and in the Location and Security settings both "Use wireless networks and Use GPS satellites and ticked" So I would like to know if its supported in the UAE or do i need to download the maps?

Will the New Xperia range work with 850 3G bands in Canada and the States?

Will the European version still provide me with 3G bands in Canada? The same way the Nokia N8 provides 3G worldwide?
