I have been using the Arc since the device came out and comparing this handset to the prior one, there are massive improvements to the processor, as well as the improvements that come with the updated version of the software. The camera lens (Exmor R) on the handset is brilliant and I would say that in the UK market on a mobile phone there is no device that comes close to this one for picture quality, when you throw in the Moblie Bravia engine the features just get better and better. The only thing that I feel that lets the handset down is the lack of a forward facing camera, but if there had been one, the device wouldn't have been as thin. But overall this is a brilliant handset that doesn't get the praise that it is warranted for innovative ideas.

dr nic...the new arc s has a new housing and hence doesnt suffer from the original arc cracking problem..also, all the original arcs will eventually crack at the sensor...

Shail, 23 Nov 2011But how do we tackle the only 320mb user available memory.
... moreYou know every handset have some shortcomings. That's the manufacture decision. We can't deny it.
Like my brother has a Samsung Note. Brilliant handset, with amazing features and battery life. But the Samsung UI crashes often, which is annoying.
320 MB user memory should be good if you do not install more than 30-50 Apps. and almost 80% of the total apps can be easily transferred to the SD card. Ask yourself do you really lots of apps within the phone. We barely use them.

But how do we tackle the only 320mb user available memory.
We can only use A2sd if we have a rooted device.
Any comments?

Memory Card VS. Battery life.
Many of us worried about the Smartphones battery life issue.
But the memory card plays a vital role of your device's battery performance, if you may know.
Try using a memory card of better brand and make sure it is MicroHDSC not MicroSD.
Memory Card with higher class speed, like Class 4, ensures high speed data transfer, so your device need not to spend too much load on accessing memory card.
Most Android users tend to transfer it's files from phone memory to SD card. So it's wise to use a high quality memory card.
Some times the stock memory card comes with your phone may not work properly, as because these are OEM products from a Memory brand for the Device brand.
So you can buy another memory card from the market and use it. Brand like A-data, Trandscend, Kingston, PQI, TwinMOS, Team, Sandisk are good.
I have been working in a memory manufacturing company for last 1 year. So the memory card issue i told avobe is based on my knowledge there.

Few battery saving tips that actually worked for me.
1. Select your phone network operator manually, disable the Automatic option. (if possible)
2. Keep the Mobile Bravia Engine off when not watching any movies or photos.
3. Uninstall the recent FB app updates. I uninstalled it and now the app is no longer running the background.
4. Skype is a very battery hungry app, make sure to close it perfectly when it's use is done.
5. The final tips is actually little bit weird and may sound illogical to many, but i found it in SE forum and tried it.
It broguht some significant changes.
When your device battery level is 50%, remove the battery, keep it outside for 1-2 mins, then put it on and charge the phone. Do not open your phone, keep it switched off while charging.
When the charge reaches 100%, wait 20-30 mins more then turn on the phone.
After doing so I experienced 2 hours extra battery life under heavey use.
Make sure you have enough time to this charging because for the it took 8 hours to charge the devie and to reach 100% from 50% charge. So it's better u do it at night.
**** You don't need to do this everytime. Just once. It's a one time solution.

AnonD-31355, 22 Nov 2011which one is a better purchase, xperia Arc S or xperia PRO?... moreHello u7YK,
ARC S is very good for reading pdf files & web browsing. The 4.2" display will give you an amazing experience. At least it was great for me.
But if you are happy with a smaller screen like Xeparia Pro 3.7" then i think you can go for it. The qwerty keyboard will also help to save little bit of the battery, as you can use that rather using the touch screen all the time.
Also the processor 1.4 Ghz of Xperia ARC S comes handy when playing HD video & HD Gaming.
If the price range is same for Pro & ARC S, then i prefer ARC S.

AnonD-4340, 22 Nov 2011who would you use the fone for that long with all radios tu... moreHi, Yes I know.
I turned off all the radios just to check only the video playback output. If you check GSMARENA's standard battery test option you would find that they also do the same while cheking the Video playback.
Now under 2G network/ GSM only, My ARC S can play 5 hours & 30 mins of HD video.
This benchmark can be different depending on region/network & battery use.

which one is a better purchase, xperia Arc S or xperia PRO?
Arc S: 4.3", 1.4ghz,233 ppi pixel density, no front cam
PRO: 3.7", 1ghz, 265 ppi pixel density, front cam, qwerty keyboard
3.7" and qwerty is comfortable but is it ok for reading pdf files?

Arc S number one handset, who needs a dual core when you get the same power from the 1.4gh single core in this device. The camera is simply the best out there and the bravia Engine is out of this world. GS2 urmm no thanks , SE all the way you would be stupid not to buy an Arc S.
