AnonD-2956, 08 Sep 2011I'm Confused between black & white version.I saw the white dummy piece of the xperia mini pro in the store. It did not look even close to the black version, but that may be true because it was a dummy. The black version looks beautiful in real life-these pictures do not do justice to the phone. Also, I believe the black colour will not show dirt and scratches as much as the white one-and in our climate, the white one will also get discoloured after about a year, or 1.5 years. My advice-go for the black one, you don't need to worry about dirt, and in the first 30 seconds after you have purchased, you will probably forget all about the white one. If you plan on taking good care of it, and you really want a white version, you could do that too. I can say the black version looks better than the white. But I only saw the dummy piece- it should mimic the actual phone in looks and feel, but I'm not entirely sure. Although the white X8 looked very much like the plasticky dummy, so even the actual mini looks better than the dummy-it will only look a little better.

Zzz, 08 Sep 2011How do you control the display brightness of your Xperia mi... moreEven at about 40% brightness (my bar is set to lower than half. You know, the one at settings->display->brightness), the battery is showing about 60% of the usage. I suppose that is unavoidable. If anyone does have battery issues, they should keep their phone charged as much as possible. But for the stuff you are getting, I feel it is worth the minor inconvenience.

My Xperia mini phone battery seems to eat up 1% of battery in every 8 min usage of the phone as my phone display eats up the battery pretty fast but I've set the display brightness to about 1/5 of the bar

I just bought this phone from the mobile store for 13K. Amazing deal. They had a demo piece of a X8, which seemed a little laggy. The Xperia Mini, however, flows like....well, better than water. The menus are smooth, ABSOLUTELY NO LAGS WHILE SCROLLING.

The phone looks amazing. I have seen the Galaxy Ace and even the Galaxy S, both look like ordinary phones, but this one looks amazing. If anyone is worrying about it being bulky, trust me, a few minutes with it and you won't feel the thickness. Its really tiny though, and I like it, but that is just a matter of personal preference (I can barely hold the Galaxy S, but this one is seriously Mini).

I'll be honest- I have used a Nokia all my life, mainly for their trusty build, and good call clarity. But this phone is by far the best phone I have ever come across. The build is superb-glass front, chrome side strips, high quality glossy plastic for the top and bottom, and the silky smooth rubberized battery cover. This phone will draw attention, because it is unusually tiny (I never felt it so, as my old Nokia 5800 had a screen slightly bigger than this). But you feel good when you hold this phone.

And call quality is amazing. There is a secondary noise cancellation mic, and it works really well in traffic. Even without it, no party has any problems hearing anything.

The screen is clear- and I mean like really clear. The bravia display engine is seriously mind-blowing. This is the kind of picture clarity you can expect from a phone which costs double. The text is sharp, colours are vivid, contrast is great, and while the blacks may not be as good as AMOLED, they are amazing nonetheless.

The camera is good, not great, but certainly good for casual shots. The macro mode is great- perfect if you need to quickly copy some documents. Text is crystal clear, and this is probably the only phone (along with the mini pro) that has an actual 2-stage shutter key. The picture looks good on the screen, and acceptable on a computer.

Now on to the bad points. The phone seems small and petite, but the thickness can be a problem if you wear tight jeans. My advice-get looser pants, cause they would be worth it. The phone's 3 inch display will be awesome for anyone upgrading from a nokia, or a feature phone, but for anyone using something like a Galaxy S, or Desire- it will feel faster, but you will probably not like its size.

Also, my major gripe is with some features of Android. I have an iPod Touch, and while iOS may be less sophisticated, and less fluid, but it is a lot swifter. I am used to moving my fingers fast, and this phone can't catch up. It is fluid, but not swift enough, whereas iOS feels springy, but with faster response. The touchscreen is very sensitive, and the phone can often not recognize the difference between the gliding motion of the fingers to normal keypresses, but I guess that will get solved with practice.

And lastly, when I got this phone, more than 75% of the apps and widgets were redundant w/o an internet connection. So I switched to wi-fi in my house, and found websites load fast- like Google Chrome fast. But the biggest problem is something I can expect from Apple, not Android- I can't register my Google account with a Wi-Fi connection. I need a mobile data pack, which would be acceptable if I was tethered to a single carrier, but on an unlocked phone- this is unacceptable.

For those worried about audio quality, if you have a good pair of headphones, this phone can run it. My iPod Touch certainly sounds better, but not by much. This can easily drive the Sennheiser HD203. The box came with some ordinary SE in-ear headphones, which, if you can afford it, should instantly be replaced with sennheiser earphones as soon as possible. They are certainly better than the crap other companies (Cough?!?Nokia?!?Cough) have the stones to provide, but the phone can do much better. If music is your main priority, this is a must.

Now, for those slightly spec oriented phone-hunters from GSMetropolis, without any market installed apps, my phone shows 295MB of internal memory free and 125 MB used, which is not bad at all. The Ram however, shows 174MB free, and 130 MB used, which I'm not sure is good enough, but I will allow you the freedom to choose. Also, the SAR is about 0.75 (EU standards) according to the SAR info sheet.

The battery seems pretty good. 5 mins of calls, 15 mins of music, 1.5 hrs of tinkering with wi-fi and GPS, and that caused a 12% drop of battery (95 to 83%). If you plan on using internet on this 24x7, better charge it atleast every night, or you know, consult a shrink to get over your addiction. But seriously, SE has probably produced a phone with no equal- 1GHz proccy, smooth youth oriented interface, a really petite and cute design, which appears real classy in Black, and a price tag lower than the Wildfire S. If this is your price range, get this- you will not regret it. Don't bother with the Defy+ (unless you want to sacrifice SE brand name for the probably useless ruggedness- come on, you don't swim and talk at the same time, do you?) or the Live with Walkman (I seriously doubt they will change the audio chip, the .2 inch extra screen estate hardly makes a diff, neither does the 2 mm thickness. Also, you won't get the bravia engine). Go for this- you will not repent your decision.

Will update after a week, one I have installed a couple of apps and games. Any other query, please let me know. Ciao.
