i had this phone but sold it knowing sony,had an x8 and xperia mini pro, sony has mislead about alot of products, ps3 mobile phones and vita,the vita is cheaper than the xplay here, stop supporting companies that dont support you, buy a samsung or google phone.

What I really Like about the phone is its own uniqueness compare to other phones,some phones do look like the same and sometimes u don't see differences unless You use it,this phone is an exeptional,hope Sony will able to come up w/ same phone with upgraded everything to compete w/ the new phones coming out these days.Just don't mislead customers again,coz,its really frustrating.

SONY FONY has just eaten its words on some updates but not xperiaplay ..if xplay customers keep the pressure up then may be xplay shall live bit longer ..lets rock and make sony fony twist again ..

Nice and very true information thanks gsmarena . I bought this xperia play and enjoying its great feature.SE's mobile is the best gadget .its true.my k810i is active with 7 years no problem atall it give me ! Thank you gsmarena

Because sony didn't want to!
Google wishes everyone to use data plans and wifi connections via 3rd. party programmes, (such as skype) end therefore removed any native support for 3g video calls tha basically ALL phones used to have.
That may not affect USA customers, but in Europe and Asia (india, for instance) is terrible as data plans have very restricted data traffic limits and are absurdly expensive.
In Europe you end up paying about 5-7.5 Euros for 100MB traffic... per month!
Sony went the easy way.
So, that also happened with 3G nativive video calls in sony phones.
The front camera is there, but UNLIKE LG ans Samsung they didn't care enough to provide native video calling.
The same happened with the intro of an FM Radio. It would mean peanuts to the final price... did they do it? No, sire!
LG (P970) has got 3g video caling. The galaxy 2 and 3 also allows 3g "native" video calling.
That means today's top sellers across Europe provide video calling as a strong selling point.
Sony's sales are dwindling and the poor customer support is an essential reason for that.
Not many people wish to buy a new model and LOSE functions.
For the price the Xplay was introduced in continental europe, most phones provided native video calls.
Result? The Xplay didn't sell nearly as much as expected and the poor sales continued, despite sucessive price drops which didn't work.
Other example/causes for this evident failure? Any midrange phone has got FM Radio - The Xplay doesn't.
Contrarily to ALL that had been announced and publicised, the Xplay will NOT get ICS update. And that capacity of being upgraded was paid for in the phone's retail price.
We were paying for a team of developers who would avoid Android defragmentation and keep our phones' market value by keeping them updated with th latest OS.
LIES, all Lies!
At the end of the day, that actually just reveals how UNimportant customers are to large companies such as sony.
That is why customers should keep away from it until the day they learn the lesson and change their attitude!

Well,amidst of all the trolls,the phn is still a nice phn,i still enjoy playing games on it,there are so many ways to discover the phones potential and maximize the advancement of it,what's the use of complaining?The phone was already bought and already used,its up to you to buy a new phone or sell ur Xperia PLAY.It just comes along w/ the saying be Contented w/ what you have.

ICS means a phone is "Future-Proof".
It means games will keep on being developed, programmes will mantain theiir compability and your phone won't get outdated or obsolete so soon.
Furthermore, ICS is a plus when it comes to selling your phone.
If its OS is updated, your phone is worth more.
It is plain to see, customers were deceived and this phone was literally abandoned as it ended up not selling as expected and Sony turned away its attention to the PSVita console which is also able to function as a phone.
Currently, sony keeps releasing clone-like phones on an almost daily basis, publicising they will all be "upgradable" to ICS.
And - presumably - people keep on buying them...
The Xplay can't handle ICS?
Don't lie!

Customers refuse to believe so!
Furthermore, as more and more games start having ICS (or even JellyBean in the near future) as "Minimum Requirement" we will all understand and feel how deeply hurt/harmed we've been by sony's big lie.
Announcing ICS from the beginning granted us a future for our phone, it was meant to fight fragmentation and it gave customers the reassuring feeling they'd have an updated phone for quite some time.
Having lied and deceived al those who've bought the Play, sony has caused them harm.
But, at then end of the day sony will must feel it has harmed itsef, its reputation and its profits.

the phone is over all good and tough takes a beating but after my first year of having it problems appeared like crazy first i couldn't use my face camera then i couldn't use the ear piece so i could only use speaker phone and headphones then the screen would start to flicker with the slightest slide of the game pad and now the screen wont even illuminate and when it does some sot of glitch happens cant text without it glitching or it completely goes upside down

The Playstation Store (previously known as Playstation Suite ) app is now up and running and I can confirm( for the UK at least), that it is now possible to download a small selection of games such as Kurushi Final, Twisted Metal, Tekken 1 & 2 and a few others.
Just google search for the playstation store apk for android.
Your Xperia Play needs to have at least Gingerbread 2.3.4.

That is why boycotting sony and other such unworthy companies is so important.
It's the only defense customers actually have and it is quite simple to use.
Let's not buy anything from companies that use false advertising to increase prices / profits and do not keep their advertised word, nor care about / respect their customers.

Whoever bought this phone should get a compensation fee for having been lied to and victim of false advertising.
being aware of that sony is already preparing their future customers.
Just take a look at their new messages:
"Sony has revealed that the Xperia arc S and Xperia mini pro won't be getting Jelly Bean.
This is coming from John Cooper, UK Product Manager for Sony Mobile, and while he didn’t say anything about other models, they all use the same chipset (with the arc S using an overclocked version). This means it's more than likely that the entire 2011 lineup will be missing out on the Android 4.1 JB fun."
The Xperia Play should have gotten ICS if sony's devs weren't so lazy and incompetent and sony's managers hadn't decided it simply wasn't profitable!
Selling gingerbread phones at their release in 2012 is a bad sign enough.
beware of "upgrading promises".
Thse of us who bought the Play on false promises and official advertisements know what it feels like being betrayed and deceived after spending their money and trusting a unworthy company like these.
worse still: sony has set a precedent that has gone unpunished, so other immoral brands/companiesare going to follow it.
