Fun phone. The gamepad does add to the fun of playing, but you may miss being able to make video calls and an FM Radio.

Those who have lots of bandwith and unlimited data traffic may turn to skype to make video calls, but all others who were used to having them at the push of a button... forget it!

We can only hope Sony will listen to their customers and tell their programmers to do what LG , Samsung and others have managed a long time ago:
Native video calls on an Android phone.

Useless apps for me which are... moreErr, no offence, but you shouldn't even be using an android phone if you don't know that you have to root and debloat a new phone to get proper performance. An example, bought a new Motorola defy+ for a friend, that phone is even worse than the Play in terms of bloatware. Rooted and installed a custom Rom and it's just flying. No idea why manufacturers intentionally cripple their android phones with preinstalled crap, but that's how it is. If you want a simple and easy out of box experience, buy an iphone or winmo.

I hv been using SEXPlay since January 2012. its a good companion while taking a dump. sometimes I forgot that I was dumpg while playg this phone. sadly u cannot play ps2 games. But it is possible when u see gta 3 and max payne got ported into mobile apps. The phone had fell down a couple of times on my toilet floor. but still no scratch can be found. The phone is tough as brick. Best used to play tekken 3 and all megaman games. The best thing is this phone is cheap as hell. The camera is no good though. Overall it is good, reliable n cheap. If a better psphone will come out I will definitely buy it.

Awesome phone. Just bought it last week and I'm loving it. Really a lot of improvements after the update to 2.3.4. I have no problem with the battery life because of the JuiceDefender app. Gaming experience is good for a smartphone. I have FIFA 12 and it's a lot better in the Xperia Play than in the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Overall, this phone is soo worth my money.

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2012Can anyone please explain to me what the problem is with pe... moreAs I've mentioned before, in Iberia (continental Europe) my Vodafone plan (NO advertising intended) is as follows:
15€ Month including unlimited VIDEO and Voice calls to phones w same price plan (useful for the whole family).

Internet Access/Data Plan - It's an extra and you have to pay an extra 5,56€ per month to get 100Mb (also per month).

Calls to other operators and home phones are charged from the 15€ you pay monthly.
I usually end up with money left, but not enough to pay for any data plan.

This phone does NOT allow 3G "proprietary" video calls. Samsung, HTC and LG equivalent-range Android phones have "proprietary/native" video calling.

3G native video calling means selecting a contact - as you do in a regular voice call - and choosing whether to make a voice call, clicking the appropriate icon, os a video call, which automatically opens your front camera window (a small window on the bottom left corner, so you know what you are showing the other party).
On the main window, you'll see the person you are talking to.
No need for WiFi or data connections, just clicking as any other "normal" voice call.

No need for any specific programme, no need to install anything on the phone, no need for any WiFi connection or extra data-plan payment.

It's included in the 15€ you pay monthly and, as far as you call people on the same price plan, you'll be keeping those 15€.
You end up spending that "plafond" (15€) calling other operators' contacts/numbers via voice or video call, OR - if you save enough for it - paying for an extra data plan with very limited traffic limits (as I've mentioned above) which will allow you to view emails, update weather and other applications, etc, as the limits are too short to allow video calling, or any serious Internet browsing (100MB =5,56€ per month).

So, that's the whole point of having 3G video calls. I know the definition is not accurate, as data calls are made possible via 3G, but that's the way we call it here, as video calls only became available and popular after the implementation of 3G networks.

As I've already stated, my older Vodafone Sony v630 still works and allows video calls.
My relatives' Window Mobile HTCs And Android Samsung phones all have native video calls.

Currently, I am the one in the family with the newest phone (since Christmas) and I am the one who can't make video calls with my new phone, which that's pretty stupid, as it would be simple to allow it, if Google didn't want to end up with this type of video calls which are only profitable for operators such as Telefonica, Orange and Vodafone, but NOT profitable to Google...

That means that I have been forced to take my old sony phone along to make video calls, which is something we do quite regularly amongst friends and family, or whenever we travel or go on trips to somewhere new.

That is why we'll keep on demanding, asking for, "moaning about", if you wish, having 3G video calls... something practical, useful, unexpensive, widely available and that doesn't stop other users from making their video calls via WiFi or data plans, if they wish or prefer to do so.

Granting 3G native video calls to Xperia phones wouldn't hurt anyone and would definitely enlarge the marketing and sales potential of the series (compared to samsungs, for example).
                                        More features=More sales/More buyers=MORE PROFITS.

                                        It's really a win-win situation.
