For the price of device, this compact handset packs a powerful punch to an overcrowded and overpriced market.
3.3 inch screen with 9.4mm thickness weighing just over 100g in weight this handset feels great in your hands.
Available now (as of writing this) for £279.99 or £21 per month on contract. This handset is has Sony's very own Exmor R technology with it's 8 megapixel camera with records in HD quality (Incredible at taking realistic photographs in low-light conditions) coupled with Sony's very own Mobile Bravia Engine for its screen allowing a much better and crisper viewing experience for videos or movies.
Comes with Bluetooth, GPS, Digital Compass and WiFi as standard on most smartphones nowadays but also brings in DLNA to stream media wirelessly from your device to your TV or PS3.
With a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 7.2 Mbps download speed and 5.8 Mbps upload speed, this small handset is speedy in anything you tell it to do.
Thanks to a software update the handset is now capable of 3D Sweep Panoramic shots and WebGL support. WebGL support allows the viewing of commonly used graphics and animations on webpages throught the browser on the device without the need for any third-party applications.
To top it all off the handset has a strong battery lasting for a few days before needing a recharge.
Running Android 2.3.4 and confirmed to be upgradable to 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the New Year. This handset is future proof for 2012 and a clever purchase for any Media or Smartphone lover.

Ajay Nagla, 30 Nov 2011It’s small, it’s thin, it has one of the sharpest and most ... moreAjay, I totally agree with your comment. With the latest version of software, Android 2.3.4, everyone can take 3D sweep panorama photos which can easily be shared on a 3D TV. Obviously, you need a dlna enabled telly. You can take screen-shots of your device too! There you go, all free with no wires, not like Apple Airplay which costs the user another £200 for the gadget. The quality of photos are superb and what makes this a good buy is the cost. You can have this baby on a contract for £20.50 these days. To top it up, Sony Ericsson just announced their commitment to users and they will update the entire Xperia 2011 line-up to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This news on its own makes the phone future proof. If you're thinking of buying a phone for Xmas this is the one!

hello all,
I'm a satisfied owner of this tiny dinamite and I've a couple of questions about it:
i) am I wrong or there is no backlight for the softkeys?
ii) after a few days of use I've discovered there's a further screen protector. I've not removed it yet but I'm pretty sure that removing it could improve the touch experience. has anybody else noticed this?
thanks in advance

Battery life on this phone is amazing - 3 days strong so far. Check the build quality if you get this from a shop - I had to re-attach the bottom panel because it was loose.

It’s small, it’s thin, it has one of the sharpest and most impressive screens I've seen on any mobile phone. The 8megapixel camera is a of the best you can get, plus there’s a front-facing video chat camera, it produces adequate 720p video and feels like a solid and well made little thing. I have been using this phone for over two months it is very responsive, no issues with it, also has a great battery life. no need to carry a charge everywhere like you have to do with most other phones on the market.

Love this phone. The camera is fantastic. It's smaller than most other phones but doesn't fall short in playing videos or music on the go. It just feels like a quality build in your hand which can't be said for a lot of phones out there.

Am quite like this Xperia RAY. One thing that should be more considerable are the photo capturing. Picture size 3MP, 6MP, 7MP, 8MP. Why no Full HD (16:9) for photo capturing? Aino does have Full HD photo capturing, it quite nice at all. Imagine, Exmor R + Full HD photo capture... SUPERB.. Hopefull after RAY upgrade to ICS Android 4.0, do support the Full HD photo capturing not only just HD video recording. I quite like this Xperia RAY.

Can anyone who has used the phone tell me how good the music playback is? The review says that it is average.
Plus I have been hearing that not all 3.5mm headsets are compatible with the phone. Is this problem just for headsets(with mic) or for normal headphones(just earphones) as well? I have a very nice pair of senheisser headphones that I want to use with this phone. Can anyone who has used the phone please help me.

After playing around with my new Xperia Ray, I realised that all the hype surrounding the camera of this phone has left a positive impact on me. Firstly the quality of the camera speaks for itself as the camera automatically adjusts in alternating light conditions. After uploading images on to the computer the resolution of the images and vivid colours were respectively displayed on a larger screen. I could go on forever about this small although small in size it is large in power and specs. All rounder it has a mixture of everything anyone would need in this modern smartphone era while also not digging a big hole in your pocket. Im really impressed with this phone and hopefully my next step is to obtain a Arc S which I cant wait to wrap my fingers around. :)
