more mpx on a small sensor is actually a bad thing ! - the more dense the pixels are on a given surface (and in this case as with all mobiles it's a very small surface) the less light is captured (for example a compact camera with 6mpx lets in less than half the light in comparison to a full frame 5d at the exact same settings)
and 8 mpx on a phone isn't a real resolution (if you go to 100% you get a lot of blur and there isn't fine detail at all (if you interpolate a photo you gate the same results almost ))
there are cameras that obtain in 2mpx a lot more detail than a 12 mpx compact camera (not even phone)
ps:a 24 inch 1920x1200 monitor may display only about 2mpx (1920x1200=2.304.000 pixels (2.3 mpx) it only maters if that's a good quality 2mpx photo or not (of course, for cropping ,editing you need more... but who does that with a mobile phone ?)
so more mpx = more processing = less light, lower quality (not even at base iso are this cameras capable of offering 8mpx becouse of the low quality sensors (by the way i have lenses that are worth thousand of $ and don't offer a lot more than 12mpx so do the math ( canon 70-200 f2.8 is for example)

Aasim, 27 Jan 2009Is there any application available similar to Nokia Maps i.... moreOf course there are navigation softwares for Winmo.
The X1 comes with 3 months trial of Wayfinder. But you could go for TomTom too. I have TT6 installed on my X1 and it works great. The GPS gets a lock fairly quickly too.

Is there any application available similar to Nokia Maps i.e. Guided Navigational System - which can be installed on SE Xperia X1? Any help shall be highly appreciated.
Actually am an old SE user, but inbetween switched from P910i to Nokia and just got back to SE again - google maps doesn't help much in guided navigational system - something must be there!

Sony proved again its supremacy. X1 is superior combination of Apple Iphone and Nokia E90.
Comparing to all other phones X1 has class and a very proudful experience to own it.

Anonymous, 27 Jan 2009why didnt they put a decent camera in this one! could have ... moreSo you think 5mp or 8mp camera would have been better than the 3.2mp camera? If you had 8mp on this, would you shoot your pictures at that resolution? Would you see a difference between two similar pictures taken, one at 2mp and one at 8mp - on your computer/phone screen or when printed on 6x4? If you are not sure, read my post on 22Jan2009. For your ease, search for "24mp" on this forum and you should find it straight away.
People like you who say the camera on X1 is not good because it's only 3.2mp are really very naïve - you have no clue what makes a camera better than others. Like millions of other people you think a higher megapixel rating is all it takes. Sorry to say, but you are SO WRONG!
I have an X1 and quite happy with the phone overall. The camera on X1 is not great, I agree with you on that. But not because it's only a 3.2mp. It's because it doesn't have a xenon flash, it's a bit slow to focus esp in low light, and there's a lot of shutter lag (Again, if you don’t understand that term "shutter lag", search it on google). My K800i (a couple of years back) had a decent camera (for a mobile phone), and my wife's current Nokia N82 is great (not just 'coz it's 5mp).
I just hope people read through previous posts and get a little more photography literate before posting comments like "X1's camera is poor because it's only 3.2mp".

If you think your phone needs an 8mp camera and a 16million colour screen then your bound to think symbian is great! A lot of suckers out there.......

I have a done several Symbian projects and have a thorough knowledge and low-level understanding of Symbian. And I just hate it. It's a very bad and uninspiring OS even from a programmers point of view.
WinMo and osx are far better propositions.

I must just say that this phone IS A MUST for any network admin.
I have successfully setup an ad-hoc wireless network to my laptop and bridged the lan to it so I can VNC any of the 15+ computers on my network at the tap of the screen. Added bonus is the internet connection is also bridged :p
This phone is a pleb killer, get it if you know computers. Otherwise if you struggle with advanced computing then you are going to be baffled by windows Mobile.

coolinbysound, 26 Jan 2009it can´t be such a good display with only 65k colors... i e... moreI'm here to share my experience about this phone, help people with some things and ask help if I get stuck trying to do something on my X1. I would normally not confront people regarding how good or bad the X1 is.
But dude, your post says it all... "it can't be such a good display with only 65k colors" You really haven't used the phone for 5 minutes, let alone own it. Isn't that true?
It's good to see people take time to read this forum and post some of their own thoughts. But it's a sad situation when people post their thoughts with no substantial backing to what they say. I hope the situation changes.
I'm no Sony Ericsson fan. Years ago, I had the Nokia 8310, then I bought the cool looking SE T610 within a few weeks of it's launch. And thought it was quite a let down 'coz it was just so slow. I thought I'll never go for another SE phone. The following year, I got a Nokia 6230 which was great. But the very next year, I found SE K800i to be a great phone. And then the SE P1i. And now the X1.
During the time I had the K800i, a friend had a Nokia N73, which had so many problems that he'd had to send it in for repairs to Nokia 4 times in one year. Again, I'm not comparing SE with Nokia (like many ppl here do). I'm just saying that some phones of both the brands are good and successful, and some aren't. I got my wife a Nokia N82 about half a year back, and it's been fine. In fact, if I wasn't too keen on getting a phone with touchscreen, I'd probably get an N82 for myself. (But I got a bit spoilt by my P1i, so had to get another touchscreen phone).
X1 is not the perfect phone. No phone is. Is the X1 value for money? Probably not. But is it a good phone? I'd have to say 'Yes'. Will it suit the needs of everyone out there? Definitely not!
