Ok, the N95/N96/N82 is not comparable to X1. They're in different segments and comparing them would only embarass Nokia. Also, regarding size, the X1 is a bit wider and a bit longer, but alot thinner. In total, the X1 has a volume of 97cm³ while the N95 is 110cm³ The N96 is a bit smaller but still larger than the X1 at 102cm³.
In short, the X1 is smaller than the full-feature Nokias and still beating them on features.
The next one really annoys me. Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Embedded CE DOES NOT have a cap in color depth at 65k. That is simply not true, stop saying that.
Windows Mobile 6 (and WeCE) supports pixel depths of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, and 32 bpp. (Source: msdn.microsoft.com)
16bits = 65k colors, 18bit = 262k colors, 24bit = 16,7m colors.
So, WM doesn't directly support 18 bit colordepth (262k). Are we bothered? No.
The reason most WM phones use 65k is that converting the framebuffer takes CPU cyles. Using GPUs takes more power and costs more with little benefit.
WM doesn't cap at 65k colors, the CPUs and cost-aspects do.
The Xperia seems is a no expense spared kind of project and I'm sure every level headed person will agree that sweet screen is one of the best ever produced.

I think this model will not be available for many months - probably for Christmas.
Currently, as it is reported it has some software bugs. It will be manufactured by HTC - not exactly famous for its quality control.
MY opinion is that for 2009 this model is outdated. (even if it would not have any bugs or manufacturing problems)
The features are not too special. The unit big and thick. It will be also very expensive.
SE releases the phones very slow and at very high price. By the time the firmware updates fix some of the problems and the price comes down to a reasonable level the model is very outdated!!!!!
By that time Iphone 3, Samsung Omnia 2 will be available for 30-40% less.
I think this model is dead before its birth!

dude i just kinda piss off with this model , when i tried to look thru some of the demo video on utube, imagine most of the video they showing and demonstrating mostly showed the problem of slowness and hang problem while half way of the demo. i like this phone but i really cant imagine the for sale unit is like what i've seen in the video

All sounded great on paper. However, I have not seen any WM screen being useful under direct sun shine. Is this any different?
The display issue has kept me from trying out a WM phone. I will stay with Symbian (am using an E61i) until the WM camp takes this issue seriously. A phone is a phone first, especially with the 3-3.5G video services coming up, I would want to view a mobile TV picture or make a video conference call wherever I am, instead of having to duck into the closest closet for the viewing!
Wake up, WM camp manufacturers! Wake up, WM phone buyers!

I can't comprehend how people can think a 16million colour QVGA screen is better than a 65k WVGA display.The Xperia X1 screen is awesome

its a K800i, iPhone, Laptop
all in one Device!!!!!!!
it has everything in this one big but slim device
nothing more you could ask for.....

The panels can be removed and you could add touch flo if you wish but i think orange/voda etc will put their homescreen on it somewhere along the line and as long as that can be removed i am satisfied..

Windows Mobile much better than Symbian. This phone rocks, and its worth waiting, its smth new that you have never seen it before. Released date :august or early september

CAnnot see anyone dissing symbian here only in your head,,if your refering to me brynn i stated that the multimedia side of symbian was better nowt to do with which operating system is better..You are ignorant for not reading posts properly,,anyway who is going to do all that kind of proggraming for a mobile fone??? if i was going to to do things properly i would go for a laptop not piddle round on a tiny smartfone they are just back ups really...

nice phone,people who say that symbian is better than windows are ignorants, windows mobile is a lot more complex than symbian, you can even develop your own programs in visual studio and there's even a mobile .net for those that know what this means. You can write advanced 32bit applications for windows mobile and i saw a mmorpg game for windows mobile which is virtually impossible to create for symbian. The 65k screen is way better than anything on the market because of it's high resolution , you can make more colours because of the small pixels by changing the colour of adjacent pixels a little so there's really nothing to worry about. Also keep in mind this is a phone for people that know a lot about computers and it and not for the average user so it's useless to comment about it if you don't know what this phone really does and sony ericsson doesn't give a **** if you say bad things about the phone and know nothing about mobile hardware and all that stuff.

Ukraine, 27 Jun 2008the only one think in which I am thinking about this phone ... moreI am hoping the phone works at least with no fuss...With much bigger ram and faster proccessor it should be nothing like the p990i..When it first comes out i am going to give it a month or so to let all the critisism,,faults and niggles filter thru to get an idea of its performance and wait till gsmarena give it a good going over...Obviously updates will be released at future dates to make things better that always happens but as long as its good to start with then further down the line it can only get better..
Most interesting for me is the video/camera/touchscreen side of things as thats the only difference in windows mobiles is the hardware,,basically all the software is the same or can be updated for example touchflo could be added..With all the multimedia of past windows smarfones being poor i always opted for symbian but with the xperia breaking them barriers it is the ultimate snartfone when released plus think of that resolution on only 3 inches of screen.....

p1i is run on symbian. so it can support more than 65k color.
