superpup, 23 May 2020Setting mine up now! I got the blue one, and I will report ... moreGreat, thanks! Looking forward to read you soon. It's only available here in Czech as a preorder so far, only thing they are giving as a bonus is a wireless Sony earplugs. The actual sales star on June the first or third, still don't understand that (but it doesn't matter).
Anyway, it costs ca 370 EUR here, quite expensive- but I will go for it anyway.

Setting mine up now! I got the blue one, and I will report here if anything is exceptional about it, bad or good. Physically I like the texture of the plastic around the edge. Very grippy, but I worry that it will rub off pretty quickly as all plastic phones do.

Paid $2600 HKD direct from Sony which is $335 USD or 307 EUR. It came with a cheap Sony XB01 bluetooth speaker, a 128 GB MicroSD, and some liquid screen protector (never knew such a thing existed, anyone have experience with this stuff?

I wish it has the shutter button just like the Xperia 1 ii, personally, I am tempting to buy this in December because I want to use non Chinese brand and my experience there was terrible because of the software issues, I describe it garbage. I wish there's someone tell how worth it to consider this phone.

PS: been reading all the conversation here and that's why I created this account to join the conversation here 😁😁

Bogdan, 21 May 2020No matter what you or everybody else in here will tell me, ... moreHere is the exemple for you. I bought Sony XA Ultra in jun 2017. paid 300 euros for it. My best man had 230 euros Huawei P8 Lite at the time, change it for 260 euros Huawei P10 lite and now he is buying Xaomi Mi 9T for 300 euros and I won't be changeing my Sony XA Ultra soon, because it still works great for me. When I do ghange it, it will be for Sony 10 mkII which will cost 300 euros by then. So you do the math and than tell me if Sony midrange phones are overpriced.
I'm not telling you or anyone else that this is the best phone (it's not) or you must buy it (you don't), but right now on the market for up to 400 euros, this phone is my favorite.

Bogdan, 21 May 2020No matter what you or everybody else in here will tell me, ... moreAre you "looking at" the Xperia phones, or are you actually USING them. Because there's a difference. Hardware specs don't tell the full story at all, not even in a review (which only looks at brand new phones, does some synthetic benchmarks, and puts them away or sends them back after a few weeks).

Take it from someone who never pays more than $300 for a phone, so I know what a crappy midrange phone is like, or buying older high end phones. The Xperia midrange phones have been a GODSEND to a user like me (and my wife who gets my phones as hand-me-downs). It's not "the same lagdroid" at all, they are very well optimized, and the battery lasts for years. I want a phone that performs well in day-to-day use, not just give me big numbers in synthetic benchmarks.

I agree that market segmentation is an issue, but the answer isn't "just buy a chinese phone".

The phone is priced fairly considering it is ip68,gorilla glass both front and back and most importantly its a sony quality is not a question
I've been using a 2012 xperia p with the same everything it came with even the battery it's slow and the battery takes 3hrs to go to zero but one things for sure a xperia will never die

Bogdan, 21 May 2020I bought a Redmi Note 8 Pro (global version) with 230EUR. G... morenah dude, every piece of hardware in chinese phones is worse than in "big" brands,

having more ram or more storage or "higher-number" CPU, doesn't mean anything even the battery,

I had a xperia XA I paid 199€ in 2016, today I have bought a redmi note 8 for my mother.
check the specs, the Xperia still works better today, storage is faster, ram management is better, battery life worse but not "almost twice" worse (4000mah vs 2300mah)
even the screen looks as good as the xiaomi and it's 720p.

when you use these chinese phones you can feel that they lag behind in every corner the I've never had a phone giving me an experience as good as sony, except maybe a pixel phone or iphone, these might eventually come close but sony brings everything I need to the table and makes it good, their design is beautiful, build quality, no ugly notch etc. awesome !

superpup, 21 May 2020I guess if the extra RAM is that important, you can give up... moreNo matter what you or everybody else in here will tell me, as long as any manufacturer will sell overpriced phones, those phones for me don't exist.
And I will continue bashing and bashing and bashing those companies and their overpriced gadgets indefinitely or until they will change their policy. Or come out with models that are competitive price wise.
Sony is on my blacklist, the same as Apple, Sony probably even more than Apple. At least Apple has an ecosystem, Sony has the same lagdroid like everybody else, but wants people to think they are some kind of better company when it comes to producing phones. And I am looking at Sony phones in the last 3-4 years (especially the low end and mid range models). And year after year they are doing the same thing, sell this overpriced phones, which have nothing, absolutely nothing, that will make them 30% or even 50% higher priced than the competition.

Bogdan, 21 May 2020Samsung A20e. Had this phone for about 8 months. Not a grea... moreI guess if the extra RAM is that important, you can give up the screen quality, using a 720p TFT screen, 14 nm 1.6 GHz cpu, no telephoto lens, etc

That's still probably better than buying a chinabrand phone but yeah you pretty much made my point. There's not a lot of good mainstream phones for a good price with more than 4GB ram. People need to chill out on that.

Again I'm not defending the manufacturers for only putting 4GB on just for market segmentation purposes, but it is what it is right now. Either live with the 4GB and get an otherwise good phone, or get something like the A20e or a china phone (which AGAIN is fine if that's what matters most, but keep the "what year is it" to yourself)

superpup, 21 May 2020Such as?Samsung A20e. Had this phone for about 8 months. Not a great phone, but it has fast charging and usb type C. Paid 180EUR for it. Now you can find it at even lower price. New that is, not refurbished or second hand.
Other examples could be Samsung A30s or A40 (this two are a bit more "expensive" now at 200 EUR, but have OLED screens).

Bogdan, 21 May 2020I bought a Redmi Note 8 Pro (global version) with 230EUR. G... moreI get that people are OK with buying crap Chinese phones with poor optimization, no support, spyware software, spyware hardware, garbageware, zero durability, etc, in order to get extra RAM. That's great, it's just personal preference. Get the faster CPU and RAM and enjoy the phone for a few months before it slows down and becomes useless. Or install custom ROM on it and play around getting the most use out of the higher specs possible, that's fine.

But to say it's this huge deal for a midrange $300 mainstream brand phone to have 4GB of ram "in 2020" is just stupid.

I agree it's kind of crappy to have just 4GB of ram, and it's probably only like that for market segmentation, which sucks too. But it's the norm right now. Don't act like it isn't just because it's possible to buy chinese phones with more ram. You can do that, other people will just get a 4GB phone in their budget.

You can find phones at around 200EUR with usb type c port and fast charging. And I am not necessarily talking about Chinese brands.

Any people can tell you something different.
Some Sony fanboy will tell you go with Sony, other Samsung fanboy will tell you go with Samsung.
I will tell you, go with the one who will give you the most things at the best price.

Even better, consider other options too. I don't know how are the prices in your country, but for example, in my country the Sony Xperia 10 II will cost almost as much as an unsealed Realme X2 Pro. It is a no brainer, which option I will take.

And don't come to me with that " Ohh, it is Chinese phone, they are spying on you, it has bloatware," etc..
I had both a S9+ and iphone 8 plus in the past (which cost me 750EUR each). This Redmi is not far behind them when it comes to performance and day to day usage and when you take into consideration the price, is best deal.
When the prices of flagship phones are increasing year after year, including old timers like One Plus, the only way to go is mid-range devices. And for few compromises, you can have an almost flagship experience.
People just need to care more about their wallets instead of their status and image.

Which one would be better, Xperia 10 II, google's 4a or Galaxy A41?

To the people complaining about "4GB in 2020 lol", what phone under $350 made in the last year has more than 4GB? Samsung A51? 6GB model is $100 more. M31 6GB is there if you import, but you give up the unique size format, waterproof, sound quality, design, etc.

Nokia 7.2 has a 6GB version, but again that one costs $100 more

AFAIK there aren't many (if any) phones that will offer more than 4GB of RAM for $350 or less, unless it's a chinabrand phone filled with spyware and bad after care service...

Sony did well designing the Xperia 5, and this puts it in a whole new budget range, only seeming to give up some performance.
