BAHTHE, 12 Feb 2022I have this phone. It's an ok unit, but my problem cur... moreI have this phone, bought it a coupla months ago. Took a while to get comfortable with it, unusual for me as I've had many Sony phones and know the way they work.
However, the problem you mention is the same with me, and is really the only problem I have with the phone.
I found that a normal phone call works ok, as the top located microphone seems to change to a speaker and the bottom mounted speaker seems to change to a microphone. I tested this while on a call, and the other person confirmed that the sound at her end was greater when I talked into the bottom "speaker".
I then did the same test talking on Line - not the same, she said that talking directly into the microphone (at the top) was much louder, but when talking face to face on a video call, or directly into the bottom, the sound is very low.
This is very annoying - there seems to be no solution.
Question is - why is the microphone at the top? Seems totally illogical!

    The screen still has tinting issues (green and red), black crush and generally sucks at lower brightness levels.

        I have this phone. It's an ok unit, but my problem currently is that people I talk with either in a normal call or using an internet chat app - they complain of a lack of volume from my end. Anyone experience this? Thinking maybe it's the microphone placement - on the top edge.

          Well, I finally decided to switch from old good X Compact to this (XQ-BT52). First of all, I had to disable only 7 apps compared with 20 in X Compact 🤯 Second, when I watch video on full screen, it has black bars from sides, so phone maybe could be shrunk by that significant space, because there is no much content with 21:9 ratio. Also, I will miss ability to listen radio 🙂 I do not film or take pictures much, so good camera is nice to have. First impression of this device is good, will see, how long it last 🙂

Currently this phone is compact when you compare it to other brands flagship phones in 2022. However, a successor to the xz1 compact or xz2 compact would have been cool. :)

              152mm isn't tall, try look at fold-phones from Samsung and Huawei, then this one become shorter and very nice.

                      This is my 3rd Sony Xperia: Xperia 5 Compact -> XA2 -> 10 III. Had the Compact and XA2 for about 3 yrs each, with perhaps one or 2 other phones in between, e.g. Redmi 4X at one point. Of the lot, the Xperia 5 Compact and XA2 were stellar. The XA2 was a bit bulky, esp with the cover on, yet the camera and sound were amazing for the price (I paid roughly ZAR 5000). Essentially the Xperia 10 III replaced a 3 year old XA2 that still has unbroken screen and works perfectly well, albeit low on internal storage. A few weeks after I bought that XA2, Sony pulled their phones (and support) out of the South African market. So, I was forced to purchase the Xperia 10 III in the Netherlands a few months ago (right before omicron hit) for about ZAR 8000. Three months with it everyday all day, and I am frankly disappointed. The fancy multi-camera takes truly crap pics, and the sound, esp the speakers, which were great on the 5 Compact and XA2, are tinny and listless. The new OS interface, even with the Android 11 upgrade, is clumsy (that side toggle), the split screen mode is confusing, and the phone often navigates itself in my pocket despite having thumb print lock (which is also problematic since I am a rock climber). I prefered the XA2 index finger scanner that could take either hand. Like the XA2 and 5 Compact, the phone gets hot when lots of video and camera photos are taken, esp when hot (35-40C) outside. That extra hard button below the volume/zoom and power buttons that should be a camera shutter . . . is useless, imo, cuz we cannot program it to what we want; it just runs Google voice command recognition, which does what it wants to do; not what I want it to do, e.g. it doesn't understand how to play differently if online or offline (our 3G/4G/5G is some of the most expensive in the world, so YouTube Music should play from Library->Downloads when in mobile data, or even airplane mode). Like I said the camera stinks. It suffers from fuzzy focus and I've mucked around with the settings for 3 months now. It should just work perfectly fine enough without having to muck with settings, right? Battery life is ok, though, and the display is super sharp. I wish the 10 III were a finger width shorter, but what they hey? It really should be more than a decent phone at the price yet I often think of chucking it in the bin and using the XA2 again; but it's internal memory is chock-a-block full, and the 128GB internal in the 10 III is wonderful (I also use a microSD 256GB so it packs a lot of storage). Overall, fairly disappointed and will not spend this much on a Sony again. Back to middle of the middle range for me. Top of the middle range is just not price performant. I bought into the hype; and hype is what it was.

                                I bought it for 200 € in Kosovo.
                                Myyy God how can a device be sooo perfect.
                                Battery lasts 2 days even heavy use.
                                From 100% to 99 takes 4 H on youtube.
                                This is insane and the speed is just light.

                                  I will have a look.

                                  Update from official service shop - fingerprint sensor FPS Part Nr 101215911 to be replaced. Hopefully it will work afterwards…

                                  Also I had issues to connect to Android Auto, it would stuck during connection process. I uninstalled Android Auto app and reinstalled it again. After that it connected without issues and worked.

                                  Phone is ok, but first time I had such a terrible issues. I was in doubt Samsung Galaxy A52 or Sony Xperia 10 iii. I went for design and wanted to have something different, and in addition local Sony reseller was offering a discount for this model. Now I know why 🙂

                                  Hope and wish there will be software update to fix all the bugs.

                                    I also noticed, that I can't use Android Auto (doesn't matter, as I don't need/like it anyway) or MirrorLink, as phone just won't connect. Car radio say's connecting and second later gives error - connection failed.

                                        Can you share your experience with fingerprint sensor? I got issues - after couple of uses I had to restart the phone to get it working again. Seller recommended to reset to factory default and re-install the software. I did as advised, there was some period of no issues, but couple of days it went out of order and fingerprint option disappeared from the menu at all. I used the phone for 3 weeks and had to bring it to authorized service shop for diagnostics.

                                        Another issue I noticed - after some connections to car and usage of Android Auto, phone did not want to connect to home wifi router.

                                        Did you have similar problems? Just to understand, is it only my issues or common for other owners as well.
