But have returned everything Sony fans value the most in these 2020 models, and added quite a bit of some well thought out innovations.
Only shame is they removed shutter button from midrangers.

Apple was sued and found guilty for that in the court of law.
Rather have any android with 2 yr support working well long after, than that.

companies like samsung, sony or lg or other phones manufactures. if the phone valued 1200+ $ or £. they should give up to 3-5years software updates for the phones. just like apple eventhough specs/design is far from other phone they give their customer a satisfaction of software updates up to 5years so the money they pay for the phone is very much valued.

As for 4k, some people have 20/20 vision, some people don't. Maybe you cant see it but others can - which can be seen with people either agreeing it's the sharpest screen to it being the same as Samsung qhd,

It boosts the maximum speed and bandwidth compared to regular 4G.
With your logic a Ferrari is a gimmick cause a normal car can do the same thing. You cant call something a gimmick if it's just you who doesn't find the benefits.

If I knew that this phone gets 5 year support, meaning up to Android 15, I'd pay 1200 for an Android phone. 5g is a gimmick, 4g is fast enough already.

Bu... moreMost brands now are guilty of pumping up their specs as a sales gimmick to improve sales. After all, its business and they need money from sales to survive. But, Sony is a perfect example of failing sales by not providing what the public want.
About 15 years ago, Sony was number 3 in the mobile phone world, now Sony is outside the top 10. Sony uses a gimmick like 4k display that the human eye can’t distinguish from a 1k display. 4K is a great sales pitch. 8GB of memory is another great sales pitch.
But, only 4,000 Mah battery in a 2020 flagship phone ? That’s going to cost Sony some sales. And I think only UFS 2.0 memory ??
Sony has brought back the 3.5mm headphone jack in 2020. Also using dual pixel camera and OIS Technology.

Pumping up basic specs does not make sense.
But most customers are unreasonable.
You ll be hearing nonsense like "this phone is better cause it has 12/16 gb of ram, and 512 gb rom".
Even 6 gb ram is more than enough for android in forseable future, and havent yet heard or seen any smartphone user using up even 128 gb rom, let alone 256, and certainly not 512 gb....
Dont wanna even go into stuff like 108 mpx sensor nonsense.
But some companies loose their edge in innovating, so if one has nothing new to offer, you go the way of spec pump up to have a sell point, or to reach at least what newest SoC offers by defaults, like 8k video recording, which doesnt have standard application support in foreseable future.
So yes, one could say its all gimmicks for sales PR.

Don'T you think 16GB on a mobile device is overkill?? It doesn't even makes sense. Who will do multitasking on mobile devices??? It only increases the total cost. It's not even an innovation. WHO is asking mobile companies to announce mobile each year?? why not once in 2-3 years. Also you must remember sony uses 4k HDR OLED panel. Even 90Hz will kill the battery like hell. Thanks to Sony for bringing soft´ware emulated 90Hz.
Of course at the end everyone wants to sell their own products but what Samsung is doing is unnecessary upgrades with little tweaks but at higher price is nonsense. My laptop has 8GB ram and I can open 60 chrome tabs :) Most games like pubg, COD doesn't even take more than 2GB. Samsung has poor ram management unlike Apple or Sony
