Galaxy S20 won me over this model from Sony. I ordered it today.
The main reason why I ordered the S20 was the price difference.
I got it at 750 euros plus wireless charger pre-order bonus.
Sony looks cool but I can't do 1,200 euros. Sorry.

Anonymous, 06 Mar 2020Not the 4k screen again that the human can't distinquish fr... moreAre you serious. Because difference between 4K QHD and FHD is clearly visible even at screen size of 5" and here we are talking about 6.5" which makes it look more obvious. The biggest difference can be noticed while reading text, browsing and as well as gaming. Little less in comparison but still the difference can be noticed in Images and Videos as well.

I do have Xperia 1 and it's the best display on the market
I checked s20 line for displays, they don't even better than OnePlus 7t has because OnePlus has Samsung's display. So it's no difference except PPI

Anonymous, 06 Mar 2020Not the 4k screen again that the human can't distinquish fr... moreIts not about the 4k res, its about the 10 bit color depth of that screen...
And 4K is a valid argument also, especially with 90hz motion blur reduction added, as no other phone can come close to that specs for in ex mobile VR appliance.

So this screen tech has its edge over others for those interested in such stuff.

But yes, for the lowest common denominator users its a gimmick of course.

Too bad Sony phones are not compatible with t-mobile wi-fi calling since XZ1. I would buy this phone, but wi-fi calling is too important for me.

Tann Hauser, 06 Mar 2020Well yeah, these cutting edge tech phones are too expensive... moreYes. Sony has put lots of efforts in investing on high-end features of their phones. Maybe it's that you get what you pay for~

No other brand is silly enough to use a 4k display. Its always been a sales gimmick from Sony. Other brands used 4k recording well before Sony, which can be displayed on a 50/60 inch TV.

Instead of positioning the Xperia Pro 5G as a "flagship phone", Sony is a "communication device" that can connect to various devices and provide high-speed network integration applications.

Although Xperia Pro 5G is indeed based on Xperia 1 II and can also be used as a flagship phone, Sony prefers to position this phone to connect with cameras, camcorders and other devices, and is assisted by the built-in 5G high-speed networking function Multifunctional communication device for transmitting high-resolution audiovisual content.

At the same time, Sony also emphasized that Xperia Pro is currently the only device in the industry with both Sub-6 Ghz and millimeter wave (mmWave) connectivity, rather than just supporting a single 5G networking technology specification. However, considering that the industry is also actively investing in millimeter-wave technology, it is expected that more mobile phones / devices supporting both Sub-6 Ghz and millimeter-wave will come out in the second half of this year.

According to the design of Xperia Pro 5G, the frame part of the fuselage is not actually made of metal. The main purpose is to prevent the 5G signal from being affected by the handheld. At the same time, it also cooperates with the built-in 4-way antenna design to keep the signal stable. For the simultaneous generation of the Sub-6 Ghz frequency band and the millimeter-wave connection function, the heat generation problem is accompanied by a Sony-designed heat dissipation structure inside the fuselage, thereby maintaining the most stable and high-speed data transmission to support longer time. Data transmission requirements.

In addition, the body is equipped with an additional set of customizable function buttons on the side shutter button, and a set of micro HDMI is also configured as a video signal input at the bottom, and it can still use USB-C for data connection or charging at the same time. use.

In other specifications, the Xperia Pro 5G is roughly similar to the Xperia 1 II. It also uses the fingerprint recognition button that is integrated with the power button. The main camera on the back is also the same as the Xperia 1 II. It also has T * coated lenses in cooperation with ZEISS.

But accounting all the cost of extra added tech and RnD... they cant be much cheaper Im affraid.

4 sensors and especially those dual PDAF ones costs, bigger batteries costs, bigger ram/rom costs, build costs, screen costs,
making special apps like Alphas Photo Pro and CineAltas Cinema Pro, and driver software for stuff like DSEE Ultimate, 3D Reality Audio, 90 hz motion reduction blur or 10 bit color equivalent screen costs even more...
Only thing that doesnt cost is OS itself.

It is very expensive, but has reasons to be.

So I believe marketing will be sufficient from now on.

Increase in marketing was obvious with Xperia 1 already... mostly through ytube professional photographer channels, and it provided increase in sales this last trimester.
I believe they ll spend even more on marketing this year...

But will again avoid those popular screen and photo marketing sites (like displaymate and dxo) like cancer. They are just not into payed deceit and hype type of marketing.

It can redeem itself and will not have to leave. I don't get what is the problem with their marketing department. It is not like they are completely broke and are not capable of one or two ads per region in a year. Not even per product. Just Produce one ad for entire lineup and it will just be fine.
