Anonymous, 03 Apr 2021Sony Mobile is not a niche market. It's simply not po... moreSigh, you're being stubborn here just because fluctuating is Sony doing in the Mobile division. Fine, the Xperia Z-era and XZ-era were leaning to a mainstream market, though the niche elements were there. But Xperia 1 II & Xperia Pro? No chance at all, not even a sliver, as both phones cater to professionals, broadcasters, photo & video enthusiasts, content creators (both 1 II & Pro) which are niche, as people nowadays want the software to their job, not themselves. Those who bought the Samsung, iPhones, or Chinese OEMs such as Xiaomi or BBK Group one like OnePlus/Oppo, won't buy this phone, as 1 II/Pro & other are seeing a stark difference, just from the paper & software...

1.) Pagani Huayra R is a track-only hypercar that only produced 30 units worldwide and it's a super-niche (hyper)car that meant for racing on the racetrack and has a V12 naturally aspirated engine, and Pagani insists on building their hypercar until now, despite most car manufacturer has lean-to making SUV and electric cars these days. Sure, Pagani has confirmed to built an SUV also, but their main product still and will be their V12 hypercars. Those who buy Tesla Model S/3/X/Y or Tesla Roadster or mainstream SUV such as F-150, Silverado, or Tacoma won't buy a Pagani Huayra R. Their caters are already different!

2.) Taylor Swift despite having a household name, haven't touched the rap genre, and rap is the genre that's dominating the music industry right now, but alternative or indie genre on her latest two albums (folklore & evermore) that meant for a quarantine-themed album for easy listening during this hard times, and the alt-indie genre is a niche genre in the music industry, and only a few of them are playing on that field, one of them is Lana Del Rey & Lorde. Those who listen to raps mostly don't hear alternative music that often.

If the limited markets bring more success, cash, and revenue., that's not a failure. If drop from the Top 10, but you're popular in the segment you're targeting in the first place, that's not a failure. If the past failures made Sony Xperia more careful and appealing again by keeping the features that most OEMs don't even bother bringing back or serving it, then that's not a failure too. You're losing your argument and it saw. Talk to me if you're not anonymous anymore. Sigh...

TheGoldenMellifluous, 03 Apr 2021Agree. Especially they're still holding to the feature... moreSony Mobile is not a niche market.
It's simply not popular due to its numerous past failures and now it only sells in limited markets.
Not even in the top 10 phone brands now.
Can’t wait to hear the biased fanboy excuses again….hahaha

beep bop boop, 30 Mar 2021Sony deserves more attention... they have such amazing phonesAgree. Especially they're still holding to the features that are either going into extinction (MicroSDXC card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, notification LED), is Sony's one-of-a-kind traits in the smartphone world, and became their signature feature (front-firing stereo speakers, camera button, 4K-res screen, their Music app, toolless SIM card-MicroSDXC slot, double IP65/68), and some of those features are small, underrated yet useful.

Xperia 1 II & Pro are commoners phone? I have to laugh chile... And explain how normal users and reviewers are having a hard time operating Xperia 1 II's Photo Pro & Cinema Pro app since last year and the same condition probably until now if they didn't have the learning curve, and having even more impossible time understanding how Xperia Pro works and meant in the first place, despite Mr.Mobile (Michael Fisher) paid a visit here once to explain the basic info regarding Xperia Pro and Xperia Pro is a super-niche phone that not even Samsung, Apple, or even Chinese OEMs dare to touch that specific area, at least for now. And if Sony did bring more of their specific Alpha, CineAlta, or their other division features to Mark III Xperias, I doubt that Sony will even return to the commoner market again, and proving your statement even redundant about Sony isn't a niche market.

"it's simply not popular due to its numerous past failures and now it only sells in limited markets."
.
Those limited yet key and high-performing regions like East Asia (especially Taiwan & HK), Europe (especially Sweden) of the new-gen of Sony Xperia, however, surprisingly, did bring Sony much more revenue and cash than when Sony has much wider but poor-performing regions like the Middle East, proving if the forecasting & aggregate calculation from the latest fiscal quarter result is the same, Mobile division could generate their first profit for the first time since Q1 2017 in 2021, as Mobile division shipment has started stabilized and gradually stop bleeding money after they shift their strategies.

"Not even in the top 10 phone brands now."
Well, the jokes on you. Sony is no longer chasing for Top 10 Smartphone brands and pleasing people like you and with Sony winning the specific target market they wanted since the restructuring, they will care less about the thing you care about now. Good luck persuading me to move from Sony Xperia when 90% of current OEMs are removing the MicroSDXC slot and 3.5mm headphone jack and some of them, even on their midrange offerings, which's embarrassing enough. And with LG Mobile retirement is unavoidable, Sony with Asus & Motorola will be the last true holdout of the 3.5mm headphone jack (& MicroSDXC) in flagships that I really need.

.
BTW, you're being a grouch here for not understanding our point of view despite has been explained many times here. Boy, my "reputation era" has arrived, it seems? ROFL

Nothing special about Sony flagships, in fact all brands flagships are amazing in 2021. Its all personal choice. Only Sony and Iphone have problematic, obsessed fanboys, but its quite funny and entertaining.

Anonymous, 29 Mar 2021Enjoy your Sony fanboyism, as it would be pointless to cont... moreof course we enjoy our xperia...
it is really pointless to argue about preferences...
some of us loves the bezel more than punched holes and notches...
sony "respects" those who enjoy video contents, thus giving us uninterrupted display...
sony "respects" those who enjoy audio contents, thus bringing back audio jack even giving it a boost, and wireless audio is not withheld as well...
sony "respects" those who wants longer lasting battery life by not putting much strained and giving us battery care since xz... and now with heat suppression...
you might say sony is left behind, "they have different direction" is actually better...
arguing what is best or worst is still fanboyism...
go and enjoy your phones as well...
me? i enjoyed alcatel and still enjoying some of nokia, lenovo, htc, lg, sony, cloudfone, firefly mobile, asus...
...
instead of calling anyone a fanboy just to cover up yourself of fanboyism, you should welcome diversity and understand that not everyone wants the same thing...
like most users out there - they love notches, punched holes... then there are those people who doesnt like them...
