Anonymous, 04 Jan 2023This does not mean it could not (or should not) still be su... moreWell thats their policy 2 OS upgrade tops & 3 yr regular updates, dunno if it changed for newer models but so far no news about so its still same old policy. Good thing you can easily unlock bootloader then use GSI, LineageOS, etc. updated roms available for it after end of support.

Comparing them to Samsung which maybe have like 1000x employees even only for software development & have more customers using their phone meaning more $$$$$$ for R&D & software maintenance.

So yeah, Sony's Mobile Division can barely stretch out in terms of software hence they only release like 2 flagships with different sizes, 1 midrange & an sometimes extra gimmicky phone like the Pro series.

All things cons... moreSony has a miniscule marketshare in the mobile market, lucky that they even do scheduled regular updates or 2 major os upgrades to their phone. Even Motorola only gives 1 os upgrades & 2 year regular updates only.

Anonymous, 06 Dec 2022Its inevitable for official support to end, whats important... moreI am not here to contrast Samsung and Sony. All things considered I prefer the Sony. But that is not the point of my comment. I regret that the Sony Xperia 1 II will not officially receive Android 13, and this for no technical reason. It is a masterpiece of a phone, worthy of all the support from Sony in the world.

Anonymous, 03 Dec 2022It's not the same as official support...Its inevitable for official support to end, whats important is they do not lock down the device from being unusable after that like what samsung has done with perma tripping knox that disable functions.
