Would be nice to see results with forced 4K on Xperia 1 through.

So IMHO not accurate but fairly close. That's realy good example.

Xperia 1 has a 7.4% larger battery than the 5's, has 2.35 of the Xperia 5's total pixels.
The Xperia 1 has an endurance rating of 79h, Whereas the Xperia 5's is 96h or 21.5% longer than the 1.
Take all that into account, the Xperia 1 has 23% more power usage than the 5.
    Is there anything wrong?

saved, 13 Jun 2020>>The old Xperia does not even run 4K, it runs 1080P ... moreYou have a clear problem of understanding difference between benefit of 4K and higher refresh rate when you use a device.
You clearly are not even reading what I am typing, because it's really simple and easy to understand, yet you still have some issue and trying to sway discusion into a personal opinion.
Read what is GSync or IPad Pro capable of, there are so many information available, even in simplyfied form.

AnonD-932544, 13 Jun 2020Well, yeah! From 1080p to 1440p.No it does not, it amount of pixels displayed is still the same. It's only rendering in lower resolution.

          - a hardware design fault (i might expect they didn't really do a good job like they sometimes do)
          - the battery supplier might have changed
          - maybe the display technology is a bit different
          - maybe the modem is different and it consumes more
          - since the CPU is more powerful and it runs at higher frequencies, it drains the battery quicker

but you keep claiming 4k screen is a battery hog. You said it yourself it doesn't even run in 4k where it doesn't have to.

So, you're proving yourself wrong, but not admitting it.
Imagine your screen was 120hz, but only turned 120hz when you're scrolling menus and playing games, dropping the refresh rate to 30fps or even 24fps on stills, or while watching video. Would you also not defend the 120hz feature to NOT BE A BATTERY HOG because it doesn't run 120hz all the time?

But you're hypocritically defending 120hz which works ALL THE TIME and posting here that 4k screen is a battery hog, though it doesn't even upscale content to 4k when NOT NECESSARY.

i demand you admit you're wrong and stop posting BS.

Maybe you would like to explain why is iPhone 8 battery life better compared to iPhone SE 2020... since it does have more efficient SOC.
Could it be more complex than you think?

The old Xperia does not even run 4K, it runs 1080P in most apps.
If you would have same phone with 1080p and the same one with 4K - and the other one would run 4K all the time, you would have a real comparison and not this nonsense.

                          >> you reply Nokia 3310 has better battery life and yet it has a smaller battery

in other words: you claim that the XZ Premium is a Nokia 3310 compared to S20, that's why its smaller battery lasts longer, and you forget your own words that 4k is a battery hog.

Yes this Nokia 3310 has a so-called "4k IPS screen", and an old chipset, while both IPS and old chipsets are believed to be less energy efficient, they outperform the new samsung easily.

I demand you drop your arguments and stop pretending to be smart. I think I've brought enough proof that
                          1. there are NO 4k displays on smartphones
                          2. resolution alone doesn't save battery; on Samsungs the battery is saved because lowering resolution turns off the pixel antialiasing and upscaling (since the real resolution is lower).

                          I'm done here.

That Nokia phone you're talking about has a much smaller display can only play old games and can only be used to call and messaging, can you watch Youtube on it? NO! you're comparing apples to oranges.

Suz, 13 Jun 2020I mean of course 120 and 90 is clearly smoother than 60 lol... moreOfcourse it's wasted on a phone - you don't draw there (sorry Note users), there are no good games that would benefit 60+ and smoother motion rendering when scroling is certainly nice, but hardly a deal breaker for any device.
It's like a Qi charging on a device for me, I had that on my previous phone, I don't have in on my Sony - I don't mind at all.
But it's easy to PR the hell out of it and when implemented correctly it does not have a single disadvantage, it can even lower power consumtion via syncing (like Gsync or iPad Pro etc.).
There is a clear benefit for higher PPI and higher refresh rate and there is a clear point where more is wasted - we already have screens that surpass what is defined as "sharp as a knife" :D but we are still a bit behind on what high refresh rate can offer. The limit for max. refresh rate is believed to be around 300Hz.

I OWN an XZ Premium with a so-called "4k screen" and I KNOW what it is.
While for SOME use cases it's much better than fullhd, it's not much better than a 2k screen, but Sony wants to show off, and it doesn't cost any battery as I've already said; my old Xperia easily lasts 5-6 hours SOT in mixed use, and easily lasts up to 10 hours of video playback, which makes it no point for anyone in trying to prove to a 4k display user owner that his 4k display is a battery hog.

                                        https://www.gsmarena.com/battery-test.php3
all Sony 4k phones have decent battery life compared to their rivals, and even better than some more modern rivals, especially it's laughable that XZ Premium'17 has same battery life as Samsung Galaxy S20'20.

there is no 4k on mobile phones.
go read about pentile and about how resolution is calculated on OLED screens.
Xperia XZ Premium has 16 million dots (3840*1440*3, full RGB)
                                        Xperia X1 has 12 million dots (R 1920*1644 + G 3840*1644 + B 1920*1644)
LG G6 has 12 million dots (2880*1440*3, full RGB)

tell me HOW does Xperia X1 have a 4k screen when there's actually the same amount of subpixels an LG G6 with a 2k screen has?

and tell me also, what is the count of subpixels on a real UHD 4k TV with a full 4k RGB resolution.

The reason you can't tell the difference in resolution between a real IPS 2k and an 4k OLED is there is no difference.
