Juan and Tarek oh i love these guys they have zero subjective opinions, Lewis in the other hand never cease to hype people.

I said it before and i will say it again, this phone expensive yes, overpriced certainly not, technically xperia 1 last year compared to mark 2 for the initial price is considerably overpriced.

Got quite hyped up watching J Bagnell and TK discussing all the good stuff about it on YT, just like UnboxTherapy did...

I myself am quite on the loop here, whether to wait for cheaper 5 mark II, or to just make a wallet leap and buy this with those expensive headphones bundle. Id sell those, so pricewise it would be reasonably "justifiable" to some degree.
Oh, the brainstorming in me. :))

The xperia 1 ll is in the top 10 by fans chart, however, i am not sure how accurate the daily hit chart is but this phone is number 5 so far despite the pandemic.

Anonymous, 30 May 2020What exactly are you comparing? Photos you have done yourse... moreI have compared the photos made by gsmarena in the reviews. Exactly the same photo made with the two phones.

For example in zoom samples, the mi 9t with 2x has practically better resolution than the sony with 3x (see tiles in the clock building). In the wide photos I see similar light and color treatment (good both) but a little more resolution in the mi 9t. The ultrawide are also comparable.

In low light photo the sony wins.

The reason why we couldn't test the battery is clearly stated in the review. I'll paste it here since some of you may have missed it:

"Sadly, we were unable to test the Xperia 1 II's battery life at this point in time. Sony informed us that the currently available firmware isn't entirely final when it comes to battery management so the results we'd be getting wouldn't be indicative of the ones on the shipping product. Once the final firmware is made available in the coming days or weeks, battery life will be the first thing we test and we'll update this page accordingly."

joe nodden, 31 May 2020My point is calling it a calculation is no better than sayi... moreNo, the. Point is, you are unable or unwilling to see what is in front of you. This started because you said that the cameras are 2 generations behind. I said that it can take 20 images a second (fps confuses you) and make 60 calculations and adjustments during that second to have the 20 images proper in focus and exposed. You don't like to call it a calculation fine.
The whole point is it can do something that no other phone can do, even a lot of dedicated cameras can't do.
So how can it be 2 generations behind, if it is the first to offer such a feature?
You see, all of your comments are negative and don't face up to facts, and this is just another example of it. I don't care if you like the phone, and I enjoy a good debate and different points of view, and with most people on here I can understand the points they make.
But you, well to put it politely, are socially challenged.

As much as i love cheap chinese phones like xiaomi, realme etc. i still feel that my sony device is the most complete phone. I own BOTH xiaomi and Sony devices and i can say that sony's phone is a better experience(Don't Bash me). I own the XZ premium and i have gotten so used to the Front facing speaker , headphone jack and 4k screen that i dont want to lose it in my next phone upgrade. i DISLIKE the price of the xperia 1 mark 2. But it's basically my same phone with upgraded specs, better camera, bigger battery and wireless charging. (All the things i have wish my sony xz premium had.) The only flaw i see in the xperia 1 mark 2 is the lack of higher refresh,BUT ive been used to 60hz and i dont really care about 120hz or 240 hz or 60 hz.

As I have used both Chinese and big brand phones, my experience is the spec isn't everything. Even a couple of hours isn't enough to perfectly judge the experience. I was tempted to buy Xiaomi phones and still using one seeing the specs and price. Only after using those for some days, I understand there are some small problems like auto-brightness feature sucks. I suggested one for my father and he didn't like Xiaomi phones at all after using it, he liked old windows Lumia phones even more cause he doesn't need beefy specs, he just needed a phone that works flawlessly. He then switched to Samsung and was happy with it.

I am still using Xiaomi cause my budget was low. But if I had the budget, I would have gone for a non-Chinese brand without a question. Other than Huawei, I don't have much expectations from Chinese brands QC wise. They are cheap, and there are reasons for it.

I'm very very disappointed with the writers at gsmarena who took it upon themselves to write this very basic and poorly thought through review. I always considered this website to be a genuine and neutral source for reviews but as I read this one again and again I'm only left with a bitter taste in my mouth. Thank God for some the reviewers on YouTube who are still honest and competent. I am not someone who understands the full in's and out's of professional photography or even smartphones in general but even I can tell that some of what they wrote just doesn't make any sense and only serves as propaganda for other phones. For one, fully agree the Sony is very expensive but the flawed Samsung S20 Ultra and the iPhone 11 Pro Max are also quite overpriced. And I don't exactly get more for my buck with either phone as the writers claim. As an average user I would never need more than 6GB of RAM on a phone anyway and yet they make it seem like 8GB is insufficient and a con. How much RAM does the iPhone have again? What's the use case for 12GB/16GB RAM on a smartphone without a dedicated GPU and given the processor limitations? Of course I'd always love to get more for less and I'd be happier with a 16GB phone than a 8GB one but if real life performance is the same over a span of 3 years then I'm not using all this extra RAM at all. Unless my phone's RAM management stinks of course. AFAIK that's Apple's argument too. Same for charging speed. I want a phone that charges fast but not too fast so my battery is degraded over time. I personally value battery care a whole lot more than 60w charging. Everyone here knows what an expensive pain it is to replace a phone's battery (and it also messes up the phone's IP rating). Gsmarena should be educating us on that and not just stating the obvious that faster speed is better. It too has cons.. I use a Sony XZ2P as my daily phone and I personally value the 4K screen a lot. I see the difference in resolution and I love it (esp. for YouTube and Netflix) but I do get the argument that it's not for everybody and that some people may not necessarily see the major advertised improvement. But seriously, what will I do with a 120hz screen? That could be beneficial maybe for the pros who can tell the difference and scroll A LOT but for someone like me it's just a waste of battery. And if I had to choose between 4K and 120hz I'd choose the former every single time. Just like those Samsung users who have to choose between 120hz on Full HD or QHD. But that's just ME. I think it's a matter of preference and not a con. Still, take a moment to acknowledge that this is the ONLY phone with a 4K HDR OLED screen. That's something. The cameras on the Sony are 12MP and produce amazing quality pictures. The 108MP Samsung also produces 12MP pictures. Granted, I could take native resolution 108MP ones with the Samsung but what could I possibly do with them? Post on Facebook or Instagram? Reminder that the iPhone is also 12MPs and takes wonderful shots too. And the Sony clearly has the better autofocus. Who's talking about that?

To me, this Xperia priorities function over anything else and still manages to look good. Would have loved to see 8K recording for example but let's be honest - I'd never use it. It's a gimmick. How is a 4000mAh battery a con when they haven't even tested it? My XZ2P today has a better battery life than my brother's Samsung Note 9 and yet it has a smaller capacity. Seriously gsmarena - hire better reviewers

I don't understand why some people are so quick to trash on this phone. I find it really sad that some people seem to forget that Sony is a Japanese company, we all know Japanese designers/engineers have a completely different way of thinking. The Japanese prefer quality and extensive user control using a clean and simple design over anything else and this device has it in spades. Japanese designers/engineers always have reasons behind their choices whereas designers/engineers from America, China & Korea simply don't, they either do something because "they can" or just follow trends but there's no real reasoning behind that.

Marketing wise, I don't see an issue with Sony's marketing of this device. Again you've got to understand that this is a Japanese phone made by a Japanese company, the Japanese don't like to oversell things. When they talk about the features of this phone they say it how is rather than sugar coating it like some other companies do.

So sad with the review, after all Sony's cutting edge camera feature as its main highlight... it still struggle to compete against other phone's basic camera performance just like it's older siblings.

It's a big disappointment cause many expected to much for its "MARK" to justify it's price. Imagine the total control on camera of this phone.

but as a daily phone and as a pocket media player...the front facing stereo speakers, jack, exotic screen etch, for me I think that enough to compensates for its lapses and I still prefer this phone as it suited to my likings.

to many...pls dont push your own personal standards to others. It's ok as a guidelines but it might not passed as a basis of their own judgement..respect.
