[deleted post]Did you even watch the xperia 1 II's announcement? He clearly said Sony's vision is to help people unleash their creative skills through technology. You know why this phone has 21:9 aspect ratio, 4K display, Cinema Pro app, Photo Pro app and full uninterrupted viewing experience? It just doesn't fit in like the rest and few of us like such a product.

Anonymous, 15 May 2020Well If it continues to sell less phones in an entire first... morefrom the day sony ventured in mobile business with ericsson back in 2001, i have never seen even once sony actually dominated in phone business, sony not even dominated in japan market. and yet 19 years of that, sony still there, perhaps the reasons of that is sony is much bigger company than a smartphone company, sony is one of the biggest company in entertainment industry, ever heard a company called sony music and sony entertainment/pictures? they also have electronics division which not just focus on smartphone. perhaps you never heard playstation before or sony bravia? do you even know blue-ray? or sony alpha, sony headphone, sony walkman and stuff? sure when they lost ton of money in smartphone business, they'll close or sell that mobile division just like vaio. but 19 years...they seems fine
https://fortune.com/global500/2019/sony/
i'm not saying sony is the biggest electronic company in the world, samsung much bigger than sony, huawei much bigger than sony. but saying they'll go bankrupt because a chinese phones sell more that xperia kinda hilarious
https://fortune.com/global500/2019/xiaomi/
not bad for a company that sold a lot of phones

Well, 94 pages of comments at the time of this comment was written, and yet this before the Xperia 1 II hit the market yet, let alone being reviewed LOL. Proving how stabilized, solid, popular, diverse, loyal, and shock is Sony in the smartphone universe, especially some Sony smartphone that proven both solid & beloved by fans like Z3, Z5 Premium, XZ Premium, Xperia 1 & 1 II, even when the halycon days of Sony Mobile is already in the past.
And let's be honest here. Let's settle any argumentation, for now, especially the launch of this device is around the corner of the highway, in for and to be reviewed by tech journalists, to acknowledge how solid Xperia 1 II can prove, especially offering most completed essentially packaged smartphone in 2020, last seen in both Samsung Galaxy Note9 and Asus Zenfone 6 (3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers, no-notch / punch-hole interruption, a versatile camera setup, "optimized" big battery, etc.)

Anonymous, 15 May 2020You do realize if sales and profits went down the way they ... moreSony is not a small company to go bankrupt based on Mobile business. If they are, they would have gone bankrupt couple of years ago and not now. They are multinational conglomerate company. Even if they lose in one segment, they get income through other divisions. Just like how Ferrari (previously owned by FCA group) or Lamborghini (Owned by VW group) or Tesla (owned by Elon Musk) can run even in loses, these parent companies have multiple divisions where they get profits and loses accordingly. Even in case of loses, they can be saved from one or other divisions instead of complete bankrupt.
Why would anyone sells their product at a loss to gain profit?? Sony simply can't sell their products at the price of other chinese mobiles or a make product with lot of loopholes like chinese mobiles and compromise on overall quality (If they compromise, they not only get bad reputation for their mobile business but also to other segments). Also these so called chinese companies barely spend any money on R&D. Sony spends billions on just R&D. Assessing a company based on the sales of Q1 2020 is mindless.

Tann Hauser, 15 May 2020I got your sarcasm dont worry.
I just think that XZ2/3 des... moreyeah that approach probably more logical instead of offering new updates every 6 months. why not just updating their phones annually but release a different kind of phone design in between. just like samsung did with galaxy s and galaxy note. so perhaps they could experiment with few ideas and maybe gain some new audiences but won't lose their own audiences. i don't mind with variety of designs or some kind of experiments as long as they keep offering their proven design so people able to choose which one they like
yeah their decision to ditch headphone jack just doesn't make sense. all their high end headphones/in ear monitors still using headphone jack. pretty much all high end headphones and in ear monitor still using headphone jack. maybe that's one of the reason why sony decided to move their mobile division under one roof with alongside TV, audio, and camera product lines. clearly their old mobile division didn't get a memo that their own audio lines actually selling $2000 headphone, $3000 iem, and $3000 dap. but no headphone jack on sony smartphone...hilarious
