I preordered it on the 1st of this month. I realize it's not perfect. But it's the closest thing we got. No other phone has this specific collection of options.
sd card (ABSOLUTE MUST, should be illegal for phones not to have this)
headphone jack
front facing stereo speakers (very important to me, consume lots of media)
no notch
IP6X
indicator/notification light
wireless charging (I will have a stand at work and one at home)
amazing screen
excellent support for T-mobile bands (I refuse to use ATT or VERIZON)
width of the phone for me is great, I didn't want a giant phone, this seems like a good compromise.
This is only the THIRD phone I've bought in the last 18 years. I hold on to my phones and get my money's worth. So the price is less of an objection in that sense.
I really love the way this phone looks also.
I'm sure various little small things that people have pointed out will get fixed in future software updates. I have a feeling this will one will out sale both the XPERIA 1 and XPERIA 1 II.

I guess they figure that this is the least worst option. Hi.
For a perfect cellphone like THIS, it is a weak point to Choose a 8 mega pixels SELFI camera, isn't it?
SONY experts must think again about it.

Android-Authority, 08 Jul 2021More power to light up the 4k display while rendering lower... moreAlso, that applies to almost all phones. If the game is rendered at a lower resolution than the screen resolution, then it has to be upscaled to fit the entire screen. How else do you think a 720p render fits a 1080p or 1440p canvas? The display's resolution is fixed, so obly the render resolution can ve changed. If the render is in lower resolution, then the image needs to be upscaled and the upscaling algorithm has to run on something. Thats where the phones processor comes into play. The resources used by the algorithm differs based in the display's resolution. Thats what i said in my previous post, but in watered down simple terms, as i thought that would make the impact of higher resolution clearer.
Again, i am not comparing the xperia to xiaomi phones here, but just something to note as a possible reason as to why xperia performs slightly worse compared to Samsung.

ASJ1901, 08 Jul 2021The resolution does play a part. Maybe not on the game dire... moreMore power to light up the 4k display while rendering lower resolution? Stop embarrassing yourself with that Bro science. It requires the same resources running Genshin Impact as other phones with the same settings. The lack of cooling is to be blamed.
I didn't even mention gaming phones. I was talking about regular flagships. Flagships with proper cooling run the game at much higher average fps.
Xperia, Samsung, Apple flagships are the only ones to not go above 45fps average framerate in that game. Exynos S21 Ultra & Xperia score below 40fps.
Even Snapdragon 865 based Mi 10t pro giving 55fps with all settings maxed.

Then when I COULD actually add it to the cart, guess what? Sony, the major international company, can not figure out how to ship to Hawaii. Like not even an option. So I ordered 3rd party.

Android-Authority, 08 Jul 2021IPhone gpu is powerful enough as confirmed by Wildfire benc... moreThe resolution does play a part. Maybe not on the game directly, but the display needs to be powered as well right. I am just saying 4k display takes a bit more resources than qhd or fhd displays to light up all the pixels. The signal to turn a pixel on/off needs to come from somewhere, right?
I am not talking about cooling or anything, this is just for comparisons between s21, iphone and xperia.
As far as games are concerned, as i said not everyone plays games on phones, the genshin impact players are even limited among that. I know it shouldn't throttle as at that prices, it feels like a compromise, but we have to remember that it isn't primarily a gaming phone. The s21s, the iphones and the Xperias give us something which most gaming phones don't - better cameras, better durability, water resistance etc. So, its up to you, which trade off you want

4k screen has nothing to do with this. Genshin Impact doesn't run on device resolution.
The lower framerate on the Xperia, Samsung and Apple is because of throttling which is present because of poor cooling.
Other phones did not have such poor framerates as those manufacturers actually worked on the thermal management.
Companies like IQOO and others with their flagship phones do an excellent job at keeping phones cool and delivering great framerates in that game, these phones cost half the price of premium flagships, which is why we shouldn't be giving the popular manufacturers a pass on this one.

"The overheating problem of Qualcomm's "Snapdragon 888" processor was caused by Samsung's manufacturing process." Samsung yet again, making faulty chipsets. Sadly Sony 1iii and many other phones with the SD888 will have to suffer for this.

Android-Authority, 07 Jul 2021There is a YouTuber called "Golden reviewer", he ... moreAs i said, might he a case. I checked out his video. The performance for 888 equipped s21 ultra doesnt fair a lot better either. So, the manufacturers seem yo be skipping on things or in IPhone's case, maybe the gpu is inferior to 888's.
But i don't mind scaling the graphics down a bit. And even consistent 40 fps is more than playable for a game like Genshin Impact. I do understand your point though when the end user is paying that kind of money, they dont expect to compromise.
But, we should also keep in mind that not everyone plays Genshin Impact and not everyone plays games on phones.
We should also keep in mind that the gpu( even when it doesn't render at 4k) has to push 4k resolution, so that is expected as compared to lower resolution phones

Anonymous, 07 Jul 2021Nope, just not living in an overly inflated marketplace. Th... moreOne thing is what you are willing to pay or believe it should be worth. Another is the actual price in the real world that it costs to manufacture the units. Sony only make around 100€ on each unit. Why do you think midrange phones (for the price you cuote the Sony to be worth) have less ram, inferior chipsets, rarely a decent image stabilization, less updates, more bloatware, no latest gorilla glass, etc? Think on that for a while and get back to me
