NY Yankee , 22 Jun 2021No it won't. Sony software automatically reduces refr... moreI said UI not video content.

And Yes it would.

I use my 5II at 60 hz and some options to reduce battery drain, and get easily 4-5 hr SoT more (average 12 hr SoT) than folk who use 120hz constantly and dont touch at all into options like location, adaptive brightbess, background app activity, etc..
Only using 120hz in some games that support it, but then again I dont game much...

So I deduct I could easily get at least 2,5 hr more on 1 III, or probably even more.

You won't get 9hr SOT. You'll get an hour max

Read Gsmarena review of Xperia 1 II last year, They clearly mention how content drops to 1080p multiple times. There is no upscaling that makes it look better, otherwise they would have mentioned it.

So, when are we having it in the global market?

Well, TechNick posted the battery drain test and it drained all the way at 6 hours and 21 minutes at 4K@120Hz. That's actually not terrible at all. If someone at XDA makes a copy of AutoHz for the Xperia, dark theme, etc would pack the battery even better.

My mind is made up; totally waiting for this beast.

Phone Reviewer, 21 Jun 2021How stupid of them to put a 4k display on a 6.5 inch smartp... moreI can't speak for everyone else but I actually want 4K in a cell phone. But I like the idea of a cell phone that I can put in a quality cellphone VR helmet and have a Jumbo screen experience in my pocket. I don't know if cell technology will advance into the multi-tool I envision but I remember when I thought a camera on early phone's was so poor that I thought it was a useless feature. I would let a phone serve as a phone and a camera serve as a camera. That was the truth 20 years ago, but not now. I haven't bought a new camera for a long time now thanks to the improvements on what was, in the beginning, a useless feature. I now hope cellphones continue improving in all conceivably useful ways. It is now my mind set to press every possible limit! If Sony was to make a VR helmet to pair with the Xpieria, that 4K screen blown up to a 200ft screen equivalent would be very useful and I would buy it. Due to my misjudgement in the early days of cellphone camera tech, I'm not inclined to pass off 4K cellphone screens as a useless improvement.

Phone Reviewer, 21 Jun 2021How stupid of them to put a 4k display on a 6.5 inch smartp... more"How stupid of them to put a 1440p display on a 6.7 inch smartphone. I think only less than 1% of people will notice the presence of the 1440p display, and that's only when they look close. The 1440p is a pointless feature and a gimmick that does way more harm to the phone than good. I'd rather they have a 1080p display that doesn't drain battery as much. If people thought 1440p was useless on a 13 inch laptop, how could you want 1440p on a tiny 6.7 inch phone?"

There, I fixed it for ya.

Phone Reviewer, 21 Jun 2021How stupid of them to put a 4k display on a 6.5 inch smartp... moreI used the xz premium any the difference with 1080 was huge but against 2k it was only really noticeable side by side, when looking for details. that said the colour difference was very noticeable in favour of the Sony. I seem to remember people saying the same thing about 2k not being useful on a small screen when it first started. I guess it is always a gimmick when somebody else has something your phone doesn't.

Anonymous, 20 Jun 2021You can set 4K/60 or 4K/120. There is no 1080/120 option ... moreXperia 4K screen runs everything at 4K if it has support for higher resolution and that includes the launcher and some first party apps. If app doesn't support resolutions higher than FHD then Xperia 4K renders it in FHD but displays it through grouped segments of all of it's pixels.

If the content is below 4K. the X1 Engine helps upscale it to 4K by reproducing pixels using AI. However, there will not be any upscaling if the content is 4K, and only noise reduction and gradation smoothing/upscaling will be applied.
