JustMy2cents, 21 Jun 2021I can't speak for everyone else but I actually want 4K... moreVR is one of the uses for 4k smartphone screen, however I still feel it's too niche to justify the battery tradeoff for most people. Interesting perspective though.

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2021Gsmarena says otherwise I don't know who says what but Xperias with 4K screen have been scaling up both images and videos since the inception of 4K screen.

Dometalican, 22 Jun 2021Wait...that app can be applied to not just games but ALL in... moreNot only that, it also allows you to turn on Black Frame Insertion to boost the display to 240hz. The best thing is that the settings are saved on a per-app basis.

If this is true, I REALLY can't wait for the Xperia now.

Dometalican, 22 Jun 2021Definitely hoping. I've been stuck with Oreo on my V20... moreNo need.
Xperia have sth called Game enhancer.
The good thing about that one is, its not only allocated to games as the name suggests, but you can assign any app to it, including web browsers, or whatever, and assign to every app that you want solely the 120 hz option. Rest of apps and UI will be running at 60hz, but those apps you want at 120hz will use it.
Options dont stop there, but any other option in Enhancer, including HS power control, etc,...are available for any app you allocate to it.

I'd love to use 120Hz on occasions that call for it (gaming, web browsing, etc), hence why I desperately want someone to copy AutoHz from GitHub and apply it to the 1 Mark iii. I'm sure it will happen eventually.

NY Yankee , 22 Jun 2021No it won't. I said video, etc.
You guaranteed won... moreFella, I clearly stated how one can get 2,5 hr or more extra SoT here, and its not just about 60hz screen option.
Just with two tweaks, the "location off/only app activated" and "adaptive brightness off", you can prolong your SoT for an hour to two more.
And there are other more tweaks.
This is not wishfull, but fact based state.
So, you deserve just an "OK, You are right" reply.

You guaranteed won't be getting 2.5-3hr more SOT.
Look at endurance ratings of phones with HRR, there is hardly gains of 30min-1hr.
You thinking Xperia will get 9h SOT is wishful thinking on your part

Android-Authority, 22 Jun 2021Absolutely not. Read Gsmarena review of Xperia 1 II last y... moreIt may well only show 4k on 4k content, and not upscale to 4k if the content is lower. But it certainly doesn't downscale everything to 1080 as you claimed on your previous post. Otherwise there really would be no point in having a 4k screen (uhd screen to be exact)
