I don't think any flagship from a major brand can be considered tear 1 or tear 2. The problem arises from who is using the phone. Samsung and iPhone are excellent phones that do everything very well. If you break down the different segments (screen, sound, user experience, camera, hardware...) And mark it out of 10. They will all be 8s and 9s. The Sony will give you some 7s with some 9,5s. If the person doesn't use its strong points only it's weaker ones it seems like an inferior phone. And visa versa. However if you add up all the points on any of the flagships they will be very similar. Remember the perfect phone can't exist. You can't have the slimmest design with biggest battery. Highest megapixel count with fastest readout speed, edge to edge display with no punch hole or notch. Biggest sensor with longest focal length, etc.
