Anonymous, 05 Jun 2021I have to agree with him on the aspect ratio , its one thin... moreHaving a taller aspect ratio gives off much more space for contents to be displayed on the screen. Even if you don't watch a lot of movies, you can still benefit from the 21:9 ratio.
For one, the contents that you're reading in your browser will need less scrolling as the screen can show a lot of elements compared to shorter ratios. If you're multitasking with two apps, each app can have more contents being displayed as well. When playing games, any game that can utilize the 21:9 ratio can give the advantage of having a wider perspective in the content, and the on-screen controls will be less obtrusive in the way.
In the case of physical shape, 21:9 helps give you a large screen device that you can hold vertically like a small phone. It's literally narrower than an iPhone 12 Pro Max while having the same screen size (less surface area if you consider the part of the screen where the huge notch is located at).

Regarding 4K, Sony knows how to properly adjust the screen resolution depending on the content that you're seeing. Even if the video or photo you're looking at is not natively in 4K or rendered in 4K, Sony's top-notch X-Reality Engine upscales those lower-resolution contents to near 4K quality so you're still benefitting from having a 4K panel.
Besides, don't you just love it when the 4K video that you've shot with your phone can be displayed in its native resolution on your phone as well?
Sony has already achieved more than respectable battery performance while having a 4K screen, and this year it will only get better as the battery size also increases.

    And no notch cinema-scope true cinema-scope display is really exceptional. I don't know in which country you live but when the Device launches there or if the situation regarding Covid is bit normalized around you I say go out and check XPERIA 1 II you don't even have to wait for XPERIA 1 III. That will change your mind.

      As for 4K , if its probably only running fractionally over 1080 p for 90% of the average persons daily usage, then it seems more of a gimmick to me.

The phone isn... moreI have the Xperia 1 the Xperia 1iii is the same it has 4k screen but it only kicks in to 4k mode when a video supports it. You can't even play games in 4k because android doesn't support 4k gaming. The phones native resolution is 2560x1096 for doing everything other than watching supported films. So nobody is going to Xperience 4k in their day to day.

Due to the limitation of OLED itself - the automatic brightness limiter (ABL) would not be able to push 1300 nits full frame. I'd assume it'll be around 600 at 100% coverage (Similar to last time), if the screen has a heat sink or vapour chamber then it'll get up to 800 at 100%.

                          [deleted post]So you go to Sony forum, where you are obviously going to find Sony fans. You say that the phone is rubbish. One of said fans gets upset and let's you know (actually quite politely) that he is not in agreement. you report him to the admin for personal insults (that I personally haven't detected). My suggestion is to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror, and decide for yourself if that was really as fun as you thought it was going to be.

Taking into account the price of 12gb ram, sd888, 256/512gb 3.1 ufs. SD card support. The screen may be a gimmick but it is still technically better than any other phone. Aspect ratio is a personal preference and doesn't really change the price. What makes the price of this phone a joke that doesn't apply to similar priced flagships?

In fact it can achieve all the results that you get out of other flagships. Show me another one which is capable of doing that. You can adjust it to be bit saturated and warm and vibrant like SAMSUNG or iPhone or make it bit cool and lower the saturation to make it dull like Oneplus and Vivo.

                                  True 4K@120Hz display. No gimmick.

                                  Your so called "Stupid 21:9" is the aspect ratio which you have been watching movies in since you were a kid. Now it suddenly became stupid. While the other non standard aspect ratios like 18:9, 19:9, 20:9 are fine. If you hate 21:9 then I hope you never watch another movie in your life. But if you watch and enjoy movies there is no point in hating 21:9 as you enjoy it.
