The AMOLED have an extra layer and are the newer technology, not necessarily the better technology under all circumstances. The question is. Do Sony use oled or AMOLED? Because the screen, I believe is provided by Samsung and I am not aware that Samsung still build oled screens.

Sony market the screen as OLED, but is it actually AMOLED? as I believe they are made by Samsung and Samsung as far as I know only make AMOLED.

Mangoon, 22 May 2021I'll bite. Why?Build quality, battery management, privacy (No sony process communicate with ad service program), not made in china, sd card slot, 3.5 jack and easy to repare.
The cons, the camera Software is just ok in auto mode.

I think phones nowadays are too camera focused that they become too much like an actual camera, they're too big, thick and heavy for everyday use. The Xperia 1 III is actually the perfect size, probably for most people here. I think Sony's in a weird spot here, they're trying to push the camera features, but at the same time their phones can't compete with those "Ultra" phones because of their size. Sony is pushing great features, arguably the best in its class/size where other companies are intentionally stripping out features (like telephoto cams, linear motor, reducing screen res) so their "Ultra" model can stand out.

Seems like I quite soon can buy it in Sweden. It is going to be great. Having said that I am still super pleased with my Xperia 1 that still after two years is a real powerhouse.

With the Xperia 10 mark iii looming as well as the new TWS headphones coming a couple weeks from now, I'd expect pre-orders for the phone to come in a week in a half from now at least (seriously hoping).

Nick, 22 May 2021I understand, but as an average user, I want it to switch l... moreMaybe they should allow sensor changes in the basic mode and only restrict it in the pro mode. That way everybody is happy. The average consumer gets to play with the zoom. And those wanting good quality videos will know that they can't accidentlly change lens so the video won't have any sudden colour changes or loss of focus when the phone changes from one sensor to the next.

I have seen countless comparison with Sony phones where they test the zoom and Sony ends up looking terrible because it's only digitally zooming in on the main camera while the other devices are changing to the telephoto camera for zoom.
