Even my budget phone with 120Hz display switches down to 60Hz when just watching a video.

Shanti Dope, 28 May 2021Why would you want to modify the resolution and refresh rat... moreThat's just it my friend, it was to make sure the weirdest of unpopular apps DON'T run at 120Hz or 4K to save on battery. I Swipe Pro for Facebook (prevents trackers and ads), YouTube Vanced, Rocket Music player (maybe not that odd), a credit union only Disney cast members use, etc. I want to make sure certain apps don't run on pointless refresh rates and resolutions.
There actually is an app (I forget the name but it's on XDA) that does this for Samsung and OnePlus phones. I really want that support for Sony...

Dometalican, 28 May 2021Uh oh... So we can't pick what apps run whatever resol... moreWhy would you want to modify the resolution and refresh rate at which apps would run at anyway?
If an app only supports up to 60fps at most, then setting it to run at 120Hz is useless and would just drain the battery even more.
Same goes for those that can't run natively at 4K, but at least Sony does its best to perfectly upscale lower resolution contents to near 4K quality without taking any toll on battery life.
Knowing Sony, this would have a decent battery life even at 4K 120Hz, as they were able to squeeze out some excellent run time on the 5 II with a 120Hz screen on a 4,000mAh battery.
Besides, Sony themselves can't control apps individually to render in different resolutions and refresh rates because this is done on the OS level, meaning you'll have to ask Google to have this functionality on the OS itself rather than have the Android manufacturer do it.

I love Sony products, their phones and all others. But with emphasis on their phones they might end up killing themselves for delay in the availability of the products.
