Sony chooses 12mpix because they want to push for that 20fps burst and fast auto focus speed.
also 12mpix means bigger pixels= better low light without the need to increase sensor size. as the more pixel you have=more noise with high ISO.
That's mitigated with smartphone's low light mode these days sure but those still need you to hold the phone still even if brief.
I'm more interested with the "Basic" mode on the photo Pro app, wonder what they do with it, whether they choose to consolidate the picture/video taking to just 2 apps instead of 3.

Is there confirmation on the display running native 4K@120hz? Apparently the specification has changed above saying that 4K will only be running @60hz - Disappointing if true.

I was expecting more from Sony,taking into account that the smartphone share market numbers did not perform well in past year..If u look at who is on top now: 1. Samsung
2. Apple
3.Xiaomi
4. Oppo
5. Huawei
Taking the fact LG left d smartphone market recently ,letz hope Sony wont follow soon in near future.

i never said anything about curved screens! but to have a huge dead space on top and bottom of the phone for selfie can and whatnot when we are seeing under display cameras becoming a norm is not originality it is stupidity and so 2018!
and if you want to stand out you need to do good! your analogy is like pulling your pants down in crowed and say hey im different, im original!
