All I can say...it is.. it IS, suuuuuch a good video camera. Wow. I love to catch moments with it... even Under the sun.

But jokes... more1) xz2 premium tech was very expensive and had some downsides not possible to overcome. Fusion does not work with frame stacking. Also there is no way to pair fusion with burst more. Nobody knows if power of 8g2 of newer version of that ISP could handle this now.
2) that tech is not completely out of plans. Could come back or not.
3) flagships are made to behave like A9, not 7r . You cannot do what xperia does with high MP bayer count unless you use lots of DRAM inside cmos, that tech is too expensive, too power hungry, decreases DR by 1 stop and has some crosstalk issues. You can see that 7r5 sensor is only capable of 61MP@10fps@12bit while A1 sensor can do 50MP at more than 200fps@12bit( cam does not this option obviously)
4) high MP count introduces tons of rolling shutter for videos. Also without DRAM, readout is too slow.
5) A1 sensor is 2,5x the speed of imx557 ( mark 2 to 4). This with 20x the size and 4x resolution.
6) lenses on phones would need to be way better to use bayer 50mp , one of reasons nokia 808 had default 5mp downsampling from 38mp

I have the Xpia 1V since june the 5 and the experience has been top notch specially the design is awsome and the texture at back is very greppy and handsome and the main and ultra wide cam are excellent . The zoome cam 85-125 is not bad but needs some tweaksthe pictures i took with thatlens are abit too soft so here Sony should tweak the software abit other then that Sony has done a good job .

But jokes aside, I really miss the days of xz2 premium(or something like that I got home) which could go up to 50.000 iso. Like A7S, very useful at night.
Sony is however crippled by not being leader in sensor size and apertures. I mean all sensors, not just main camera.
Why can't there be xperia A7s or xperia A7R? They got it under same roof lol.

I have it for a month, I bought it in Taiwan for the computex, everything that is the camera and video is a priceless section, but it still needs a lot of polish to the software, it has freezing or lag problems, at first I had problems with the superpocision of different app and menus, etc. they have corrected them, But I think it lacks a few months of polishing, before I had the OPPO ACE2 Evangelion, and this feels worse in general use

Sony isn’t making money from the smartphone manufacturing business but they needed to stay relevant, especially if they wanted to keep on supplying their camera sensors to other phone manufacturers.

Few quick thoughts a couple of days with the phone.
Cameras are significantly improved. The natural bokeh with the main lens shooting f1.9 is really impressive. I'm coming off an Xperia 1 III (which had the fingerprint scanner stop working, full disclosure). Screen appears much better than that, but perhaps only due to the brightness. I didn't look up any specs, but I enjoy it more than the prior screen.
The phone itself feels special. Probably been said before in other reviews, but feels very high end. Slightly thicker than the Mark III, and the little added heft gives it a richer feel. And the back is wonderful with the matte glass. Have ordered simple bumper case for it, which hasn't arrived yet.
I got the silver and I really like having something that doesn't look like any other phone oout there. Plus, I keep my phone mounted on the dash facing me, so now it's not nearly as much of a heat sink. Battery seems to be lasting easily 30% longer than prior phone. And kept that phone only to an 80% charge nearly all the time, so not a battery degradation issue. And for those of you watching, I got the international version, 512gb and it works on Verizon. I live somewhere with sparse 5G coverage, so the relative lack of 5G coverage versus the US-spec version isn't an issue for me at all. Besides, cost me the same as the black 256gb US version.

Has FIVE!!! different Sony camera apps (Creator Alpha app), how many camera apps did yours come with? Sony Music Player (subscription for Pro), Bravia Core (Sony Movies catalogue 4k60 by subscription), Sony headphones. Afaik, only the gallery and file manager apps are Google. Fans also want it as close to vanilla as possible without manufacturer bloatware.
