NeverPayOver1000eur, 02 Jul 2023All this arguing is pathetic. I already own the Xiaomi 13 U... moreSo I got my Xperia 1 V today. Honestly, it's one of the most beautiful phones I have ever seen and I don't even care so much about how phones look. But it looks like a work of art. The textured back is so nice in the hand that I don't want to use a case for it. The entire phone feels like it's built like a tank. The glass screen feels so much more premium than my Xiaomi 13 Ultra too. The buttons are super tactile and the fingerprint sensor is flawless.
So far the stock Android experience is great. But I do hate that I cannot reverse the "back" and "drawer" buttons on Xperia devices. No idea why they took that feature away after Android 10. Xiaomi, OnePlus and Samsung all have that feature. Still, I swapped the buttons on my Xiaomi too, so at least they are the same on both phones. I will just get used to it.
Camera performance is incredible. Much, much better than I expected. I do have the Photography Kit for Xiaomi 13 Ultra and I do really like that, but the shutter button there has a lag on it, because it uses bluetooth. No such lag whatsoever on the Xperia 1 V.
There are a few small things I noticed on the Xperia 1 V. It's less easy to change the video FPS. Some settings are really hidden (buried) in the camera app too. You have to change a few things if you want the best quality video and photos. Plus you need actual skill to make use of the photography app. Otherwise the app is amazing and I will definitely get some good use out of it too.
I have taken some comparison photos with my Xiaomi 13 Ultra and the Xperia 1 V and honestly. Both of the cameras are so good. The Xiaomi is a bit more moody, but the Xperia is much more cinematic. Xiaomi is better in low-light for sure, but the texture and sharpness for Xperia are just incredible. Xperia also has far sharper and more detailed zoom from between 10x-15x too. It's pretty much neck-and-neck for 1x-10x zoom though.
I can see why Xperia has so many fans. My last Xperia was the Pro-i. I loved the camera on that device, hated the phone. I will say though, that this Xperia 1 V does definitely still heat up fast! If you use the proper HDR and high-quality stabilization. It gets hot pretty quick. Will need to test more to see if that prevents recording but I don't do a lot of video anyway.
Also nice, is that mine qualifies for the free 1000XM5 headphones too. Even though I already got a pair. I'll sell the ones I got already 1 year ago almost, and use these new ones.

All this arguing is pathetic. I already own the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. I even have the Photography Kit that you can get for it. I love both of them. The 13 Ultra is an incredible phone and takes arguably the best photography I've ever seen, except from my previous Vivo X90P+ or my previous Xperia Pro-i.
That said, I'm still going to get this phone too as a work phone for free. It's €1,147 here and it comes with Sony's latest and greatest XM5 headphones. I already have a pair (actually I'm wearing them now). So I'll likely sell these which I've had 1 year and start using the brand-new ones. I could buy up to a €1500 phone (tax-free) at work. However, there's absolutely no other phone I am interested in except this Sony (and the 13 Ultra I already own). I was already stuck between the Xiaomi 13 Ultra or Xperia 1 V for my personal phone. I chose the Xiaomi because it was already released, had the photography kit and lens attachments and I've had such good experiences with their 108MP cameras already. Whilst my experience with Xperia has been a lot worse. The XZP I owned was faulty and the camera needed a replacement. The Pro-i I got had a faulty OLED and when I got it back they disabled my ultrawide camera. So this is my third try and Sony's 3rd chance for me.
The Pro-i was my favourite camera to shoot with and arguably took my favourite kind of photos. It's just a shame the display was faulty and it overheated so badly. I'll be very happy to have the same amazing sensor, but now in 48MP.
To people arguing. Just buy both? If you can't afford both, be happy with whichever you chose. Both are amazing phones. The 13 Ultra truly is as good as people say. I absolutely love taking photos with the photography kit and the pro mode is incredible. Still I'm very curious to see what I can do with the Sony and the 120fps is going to be amazing for the sports I do.
P.S. My 13 Ultra was €968 incl. postage so still under €1k. I also won't be paying for the Sony either. It'll be supplied by my workplace.

Anonymous, 27 Jun 2023Because sony's engineers cannot use their-own camera p... moreLmao, 4K120FPS and 4K60FPS at 150mbps, camera like photography experience, and dedicated hardware keys being ignored of course. What is your definition of knowing how to use a camera. Because it sounds like to you if you can't press the button and get a social media ready picture (which, by the way, is not natural colour rendition) it's bad. That's ridiculous. This isn't a phone for average consumers. First of all average consumers aren't shopping above even 500$, second of all if you just want a point and shoot experience your needs would be covered by a 300$ phone.
