The sensors on both of them Are completely Different eventough the specs are similar, Xperia 1 sensor is Stacked CMOS, faster AF, 960fps Available while the Xperia 5 sensor is Regular Cmos, that's why the video capabilities in X5 is limited than X1, that's will answer your question why they are different, because the sensor is different too

It... moreThe first thing, SOV41 is codename for local market, which means it is tied with an operator and locked (since only for japan market), just recheck if the phone is unlocked or not, if you buy it plain from bid site or japan local marketplace will get locked and can't use other simcard
So Mind the phone state first before purchase it! There is no easy way to unlock the locked phone

Have used it for 2 years now, no case, no screen protection. Still works perfectly except sometimes the thumb fingerprint doesn't register with the first few tries. The outer corners of the shell are slightly dented due to several falls onto pavement. Somehow the screen and back are still just like new, the lack of need for case/screen protection is the main advantage of Xperia phones imo.

Much better than any Samsung 9,10,20, 21 (look at the latest 22 ultra test form GsmArena how crap photos delivers!) in every aspect, just maybe sometimes faster battery drain depending on what you do, and some zooming not quite there... But the smoothness and the ease of use in every area, just perfect!

Me, 03 Nov 2019Interesting, all professional photographers claim Xperia 1 ... moreJust compared a few sample photographs taken with Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 and they have come out different compared to GSM Arena reviews. Photos on Xperia 1 look a bit more natural and has better contrast while Xperia 5 produces a bit more noise but punchy colors. Both have the same cameras and same processor, why such a noticeable difference in output then?

Fingerprint reader don't work as it should. Update destroy data on my sd card. I burn my hands few times, when i play - it's so hot. Loud speaker loud only in theory - it's so poor sound. Need to be charge every day - if you don't use it, if you use, than few time per day...
Never again sony.

El, 16 Nov 2021Sony Xperia 5 is a big disappointment. I've been Sony ... more1. it gets hot on back in to part but I have to play some game or something demanding, some previous phones were worse then this but not good thing, it means that cooling is not that good so shorter life maybe?
2. no problem for last two months I have the phone, but I am restarting it regularly
3. never got under 50% :D
4. I am ok with it, just that photo camera app starts really slow - double the time comparing to xz1c
5. THIS, sometimes drives me crazy when it is just not working. I thought that this was fixed in android 11 but maybe every five time I have to relocate finger and try it two three times. Then, from time to time, every 10-20 unlock it just not working and I have to put pin. This is why I will one time throw the phone and destroy it by jumping on it :)
6. Never tried call on speaker, I will try when possible.

Sony Xperia 5 is a big disappointment. I've been Sony user for years and I always gave too much credit to Sony but this time it's just too much. I bought in in Feb 2020.
1. Overheat. It gets overheated instantly even if all other apps are closed, even during the videocalls it gets overheated
2. Overall performance - it gets stuck, frozen, not responding every now and then and very frequently, during the video calls - my video get frozen every few minutes.
3. Battery. When the it's under 50% of charge - it will go to zero with the speed of light.
4. Camera - OMG, it's the worst. The only decent quality you can get on a sunny day at rear camera. Frontal camera is blurry, not sharp, seems like in fog. During whatsapp calls my video seems like filtered and not in a good way.
5. Fingerprint sensor - not sensitive, very often I have to insert the number code instead as the sensor is not recognizing my fingerprint.
6. Dynamic and microphone - without headphones it is impossible to talk on speaker, people do not hear me.
Is it only me who experiences these problems with my Xperia 5???
It seems it's time for me to move on from Sony.

I already bought xperia 5 and I am happy I did. It is a little too long to be ideal phone and fingerprint sensor sometimes does not like my thumb (don't know why because all other registered fingers works fine, I even reregistred thumb again but did not helped, weird..).
Another minus is the android 11 change of quick settings. I do not see why there are 6 quicksetting icons and when I roll the bar down, there are the same icons again but in two lines. 9 icons was not enough for me in xz1c, not only six..
And unfortunatelly, Sony remove sleeping mode because there is something in digital wellbeeing, but it does not lower brightness to minimum like xz1c did. B&W is nice addition though.
There will be another year of security updates, for 270€ opened box (demo phone, very good condition) I am very happy.

I've had literally no problems with it, only had to adjust to the Android build updates. I don't like big phones, it's still minutely larger than I'd prefer, but it's comfy to hold and use. There's definitely better phones, but that's a competitive price, and not a purchase I'd regret.
