It would be great if Sony could somehow mitigate the overheating issue of SD888 (not Sony's fault) on both 5III and 1III. I read other brands are throttling apps to address this issue. I guess skipping and waiting for IV series just because of this might be hard or stressful for some.

Besides, the 5 iii runs at 1080p@120hz vsb1 iii, which runs at 4k@120hz, which means you'll get more many hours on the 5 compared to the 1.
Go for the 5(if it ever comes out LOL), and buy your kid a $300 phone with the rest of the money.

How important is the TOF 3D sensor in the Xperia 1 III? Is it worth choosing that phone instead of the 1 III to save money?

Komer, 04 Jul 2021Great specs, great size, headphone jack, SDcard support... ... moreYou are wrong, the Xperia 5 II has a great battery life, and this phone is basically the same, with an extra 500 mAh on the battery, so if anything, I expect it to have amazing battery life.
You may be confusing it with the Xperia 1 III.

I had the same problem with the price for my current Xperia 5 II but there weren't many other brands with similar features for much less... Finally, I said what the hell and bought it, I have no regrets as it's worth every penny. Furthermore, I also bought an original case which was hard to find and expensive as f*. These are the times we're living. So, if it's your maych, do it.

Great specs, great size, headphone jack, SDcard support... all great stuff! But probably mediocre camera and mediocre battery life. Since I'm not hooked up on phone's cameras, this would be the perfect phone for me. WOULD! Price is dealbreaker here. >1000$ is price tag that no phone can justify.

Biggest problem of Sony was and still is their marketing and management of the smartphone branch. These people should ALL be fired and replaced by people who actually know how to market and launch products.
The phones are fine as is, just some improvements or minor price changes needed.

With how Sony handled (and struggled) with these releases, I feel they should dabble with MediaTek for their next 5 and 10 mark IV.
Imagine the 5 Mark IV with the next Dimensity 2000 (with mmWave) along with the mark iii specs except for 12MP selfie cam, updated main and ultrawide sensors, upgraded DAC, 12GB RAM/256GB ROM for $100 LESS than the Mark iii due to the cheaper nature of MediaTek.
Then imagine the 10 with the iii's specs but with Dimensity 830 (whatever the next 800 series will be called), 90Hz refresh rate, and stereo speakers for like $20 more than the predecessor (because 800 series tops the 600 series but also with AV1 support).
Sony may have to make this move with the idiocy of this and last year.
