Sony must make a 5 inch version of Xperia with 9:21 aspect ratio like this one. And they should increase the screen to body ratio to at least 86%.

Jaye, 05 Jun 2024Love this phone actually, but then the finger print reader ... moreIf you didn't import it to your country, you can still get it fixed for free under 2 year warranty from Sony. Mine broke a month ago, so I called the support line, posted it to Sony, received it back about 10 days later and works perfectly.

Love this phone actually, but then the finger print reader died on me, first worked only sometimes and then stopped totally. I even reset everything. What to do?

This was way too good until Sony intentionally degraded it's successor "Xperia 5 V". They got rid of the Telephoto lens, increased the thickness, made the bezels bigger. Sony literally knew the 5 IV was too good they literally had to make it's successor worse 🤯
You should get the 5 IV over the 5 V if you don't mind the older android update, the shorter battery life & the slightly worse speakers. It's overall an improvement as far as media consumption is concerned.

Alexander Ong, 07 Feb 2024The Phone is really great on every aspect, great software, ... moreI have the same problem with fingerprint reader. I used to be a Samsung die-hard fan with multiple Galaxies in a row, but when they ditched jacks in practically all their higher end phones, I went for this one, and I mostly regretted it. The first few months it was continuously crashing /restarting, LOADS of software glitches, eventually it settled down as I guess they fixed the worst bugs. The near-stock Android may have its fans but I appreciated a lot of extras that Samsung brings and I didn't even know it was Samsung, but mostly I got to tolerate Xperia (never loved it like I did Samsungs, but it was ok-ish).
Not long ago the fingerprint reader started acting out and every time the phone gets even a bit warm (not even hot - just warmer, as we enter the summer...) it dies. After it cools down and restarts it sometimes comes back - but more and more often it does not. And since Xperia doesn't do iris scanners, it means entering passwords all the bloody time. I hate it and I'm going back to samsung, jack or not...

If you are considering getting this phone, I strongly recommend against it.
I have had the phone myself, returned it to the seller as a faulty unit, and they've returned it back after all their test returned alright. As much as I wanted to love this device and every great feature that it offers, the overheating issue destroys the experience. It literally burnt my hands after an hour of gaming.
At this point, you can get an S23 or a Pixel 7 for far less, and have a greater experience. I wanted to love this phone, but that's one hot potato.

I have just passed the 1 year mark with this phone, It's not offered in any major shop in my country so i had to wait it out trough import, anywasy when it got here i was very disappointed to receive just rhe phone,no cables no adapters, nothing and at first i was amazed that it was on for a week without being charged while i was waiting for my screen and bacj protector to come after fiddling with it i was dissatisfied with the fact it was overheating a lot and the battery was draining extremely fast(no more than 3 hours of gaming and 6 hours of video watching) i checked the forums and saw it's normal after that I got an update and the phone just started flying, the battery was amazing, the performance was great, just the perfect phone and then the newest update came and the phone is absolute shit, disgusting performance, heating problems videos statted lagging while recording, the battery drain in no more than 5 hours of just normal work (surfing Facebook and reading the news)im really hoping the phone will get a new update or something, otherwise i will be returning it back for the I series or just going for the new xiaomi 14.

The Phone is really great on every aspect, great software, great pictures, really very little complains on the first couple of months. A very very clean android, what I really appreciate, no bloatware. But after 10 months....
1- The phone overheats too much making the use of it impossible, it burns your hands. Something you can avoid if you learn on "how to use it" (eventually you ll learn what makes the phone hot, like gaming or taking too many photos)
2- Taking pictures is really fun, a lot of options, you can really tweak everything. When the pictures are well taken they are great, nothing to envy an Apple or a Samsung. But on low light is rubbish, there is no way to fix that, even with the 10000 options that the phone has.
3- And sadly, this point was a deal breaker for me. The fingerprint sensor slowly stops working, now I m at the point that it doesn't works at all. A month ago if I restarted the phone it would work again, but not anymore. Not surprisingly there is no or very little information in Sony s website, they never acknowledge that the fingerprint sensor is faulty.
Very sad for a phone with a lot of potential, but this "little" details will make me hesitate next time I look at another Sony phone again.

I've been using the Xperia 5 IV for about a month now. I chose it over the Xperia 5 V because of its visual design, which looks rough compared to this device, and because some of its features were trimmed (like notification LED), but mostly because of the price difference between them. During this month, I used the camera a lot, I recorded a lot of 4K videos. I didn't have too many SD 8 Gen 1-induced heating problems during this period, probably because I fixed the screen to 60 Hz or because it's winter, but it's a fact that it drains the battery in heavy use. Apart from that, there are objective advantages and disadvantages:
Pros:
+ The design of the device is very ergonomic and lightweight, most of the time you don't even feel that you are carrying it in your pocket. The 21:9 screen is convenient enough for Split-Screen and Pop-Up Screen uses.
+ If you're not someone who mainly records videos or plays games, the device's 5000 Mah battery easily lasts 1.5 days in intensive use, even if you keep BT, Wi-Fi (or Celular), NFC, and Location on 24/7.
+ 3.5mm Jack + SD Card Expansion
+ Front-facing stereo speakers provide a rich experience as the sound comes directly to you when you hold it in your hand. In addition, you won't accidentally turn it off in your hand while playing games.
Cons:
- Price: Still high for a 1-year-old phone compared to other compact competitors. You can get a newer phone like Samsung s23 or Google Pixel 7a for less.
- SD 8 Gen 1 and possible heating issues.
- Aggressive Memory Management; Unfortunately, even if you put your apps in the background, the phone itself suddenly kills all the applications, and when you come back, you find yourself starting from the beginning, not from where you left off. When I turn off the "Suspend execution for cached apps" setting in the advanced settings, it gets relatively better but is not as efficient as their other competitors. I noticed that this issue is related to Sony's "Adaptive Battery" feature, it conflicts with Stock Android's task management.
- Camera Software Itself is okay but not User Friendly: This phone is created mostly for enthusiastic purposes, not simple for standard end users.
- Limited Software Support: 2 years for Major Version Updates, 3 years for Security Patches.
- The box contents are bland compared to the price (The box contains only the phone and tons of user manuals that your elders can read so they don't get bored.)
If these cons do not cause major problems for you, it is an enjoyable phone that I would strongly recommend as an overall experience.

2 questions:
- If anyone knows, for comparison, are both the screen and torch brighter than the Xperia 5 II or about as bright as the 10 V cause these are what I have to go on. There is nowhere really to have a look at one of these on display in a store near where I live cause it's just Samsungs, Apple and Xiaomi everywhere.
- also, is it true that the overheating problem is gone after some updates?
