Ben, 29 Jan 2024anyone got green line .. after updating android 14??Why update when nothing was wrong, now suffer you deserve it

The Phone is really great on every aspect, great software, great pictures, really very little complains on the first couple of months. A very very clean android, what I really appreciate, no bloatware. But after 10 months....

1- The phone overheats too much making the use of it impossible, it burns your hands. Something you can avoid if you learn on "how to use it" (eventually you ll learn what makes the phone hot, like gaming or taking too many photos)

2- Taking pictures is really fun, a lot of options, you can really tweak everything. When the pictures are well taken they are great, nothing to envy an Apple or a Samsung. But on low light is rubbish, there is no way to fix that, even with the 10000 options that the phone has.

3- And sadly, this point was a deal breaker for me. The fingerprint sensor slowly stops working, now I m at the point that it doesn't works at all. A month ago if I restarted the phone it would work again, but not anymore. Not surprisingly there is no or very little information in Sony s website, they never acknowledge that the fingerprint sensor is faulty.

Very sad for a phone with a lot of potential, but this "little" details will make me hesitate next time I look at another Sony phone again.

yes, my font is greenish after upgrading in the main screen

I've been using the Xperia 5 IV for about a month now. I chose it over the Xperia 5 V because of its visual design, which looks rough compared to this device, and because some of its features were trimmed (like notification LED), but mostly because of the price difference between them. During this month, I used the camera a lot, I recorded a lot of 4K videos. I didn't have too many SD 8 Gen 1-induced heating problems during this period, probably because I fixed the screen to 60 Hz or because it's winter, but it's a fact that it drains the battery in heavy use. Apart from that, there are objective advantages and disadvantages:

            Pros:
+ The design of the device is very ergonomic and lightweight, most of the time you don't even feel that you are carrying it in your pocket. The 21:9 screen is convenient enough for Split-Screen and Pop-Up Screen uses.
+ If you're not someone who mainly records videos or plays games, the device's 5000 Mah battery easily lasts 1.5 days in intensive use, even if you keep BT, Wi-Fi (or Celular), NFC, and Location on 24/7.
            + 3.5mm Jack + SD Card Expansion
+ Front-facing stereo speakers provide a rich experience as the sound comes directly to you when you hold it in your hand. In addition, you won't accidentally turn it off in your hand while playing games.

            Cons:
            - Price: Still high for a 1-year-old phone compared to other compact competitors. You can get a newer phone like Samsung s23 or Google Pixel 7a for less.
            - SD 8 Gen 1 and possible heating issues.
            - Aggressive Memory Management; Unfortunately, even if you put your apps in the background, the phone itself suddenly kills all the applications, and when you come back, you find yourself starting from the beginning, not from where you left off. When I turn off the "Suspend execution for cached apps" setting in the advanced settings, it gets relatively better but is not as efficient as their other competitors. I noticed that this issue is related to Sony's "Adaptive Battery" feature, it conflicts with Stock Android's task management.
            - Camera Software Itself is okay but not User Friendly: This phone is created mostly for enthusiastic purposes, not simple for standard end users.
            - Limited Software Support: 2 years for Major Version Updates, 3 years for Security Patches.
            - The box contents are bland compared to the price (The box contains only the phone and tons of user manuals that your elders can read so they don't get bored.)

If these cons do not cause major problems for you, it is an enjoyable phone that I would strongly recommend as an overall experience.

              2 questions:

              - If anyone knows, for comparison, are both the screen and torch brighter than the Xperia 5 II or about as bright as the 10 V cause these are what I have to go on. There is nowhere really to have a look at one of these on display in a store near where I live cause it's just Samsungs, Apple and Xiaomi everywhere.

              - also, is it true that the overheating problem is gone after some updates?

Battery not overheating now, but if you are buying one - get a new one if possible. I bought a used one in "Like New" state from Amazon and yet it has 10% degraded battery. Guess from earlier overheating... Also camera is good but not great - photos from main sensor a bit worse than from my old LG V60. And Netflix gives me a constant error message (5.1) every few minutes. Supposedly a common Xperia issue

Some online stores in my country in their descriptions state that the xperia 5 IV uses TSMC's SD 8 Gen 1, is that true? and is there a difference between TSMC's SD 8 Gen 1 with Samsung's SD 8 Gen 1? Lastly, can anyone tell me how long Sony will provide software support for the xperia 5 IV? because it was released with Android 12 even though Android 13 had been released a month before. tks for the answer

If you want the best photos for social media, go for the Oppo X5. It is consistent in most cases and has extreme AI modulation before the end result. However, HDR and highlights can sometimes miss. If you want to take landscape shots as they are, with no processing, go for the Sony. Sony does tend to have some noise at low light and is not that great with shooting people.

These two I've had. Your last pick I know nothing about.

Since the last two patches no more overheating... and it seems now like the perfect phone.
