I really wanna get this phone and I have been a lot of research, given the prominent overheating issue. From all the GSMarena tests I have seen so far, almost every SD8 gen 1 cpu overheats, with the Xiaomi 12 series leading the pack with throttling. Some devices like The Oppo/Oneplus series seem to preform better. The s22 series also throttles as much, if not more than the Xperia. The only thing I can conclude is that Sony has taken some extensive measures to prolong the life cycle of the unit and prevent any possible damage and tearing of hardware. I would also assume, that recording 120fps at 4k would heat up the phone significantly more than recording 30fps at 1080p and even 4k - simple math I guess. To aid this logic, understanding basic physics, if the surface of the device keeps getting hot, that means the device is trying to push the energy out of the phone, rather than keeping it inside, but I might be wrong on this one. I guess I will write more once I get the actual device and test it properly.

Coming from owning a Z1 Compact and XZ1 Compact I feel duped holding this one in my hand; it's HUGE in comparison, and yet it's marketed as one of the smaller phones on the market today. Small is what I'm after so I'm still getting used to this one.
US user here, I ordered mine stateside as the Sony site explicitly states that the T-Mobile network supports it and that it has voLTE. So far so good! My wife hated my XZ1 Compact cuz most incoming calls went straight to voicemail, it had network support issues after the move to 5G. I opened this one up and it upgraded to Android 13 as soon as I connected to WiFi. Everything it's touted to do it does and I haven't faced any issues at all. The only thing is the QR scanner in the quick-use tiles doesn't work (it's supposed to turn the camera on but the screen stays black). A few tutorial dialogue boxes appear here and there and you have to do the extra step of tapping 'OK' to make it go away which can be annoying after you learn how things work. I'm not much of a phone gamer so the heating issue may not be an issue for me at all. The camera and the software is pretty nifty, though; it's the reason I've stuck with Sony phones through the decades (yes, decades). There are so many options, but part of the fun is playing around with them to see what works best for what situation. Haven't yet dug into Cinema Pro yet and maybe I'll meet the heating issue there, but even then I'm not a budding influencer or film director so I'm not too worried about it. Other than the size-shock it's turning out to be a decent phone. Thinking about getting a privacy screen now cuz the screen is so big and colorful I don't want everybody looking at what I'm looking at.
I got mine in Green, but they turn the saturation up in those product pics. Only in some really bright light or the sun can you tell that it's green. Otherwise it looks like a cool slate grey. So far all my calls have been coming thru. Wifey approves.

I use that progress mistake. I will not buy this brand anymore. I don't like it - that's putting it mildly.

SAm, 07 May 2023It should have a better design but we can manage I think the design is very good, mature, restrained and very Sony.

No new SONY phones in 2023? Why?

Just disappointed, returned mine for bugs and prox. sensor issues. Can't believe Sony is still struggling in making a usable phone. I have been buying Xperia phones since forever. 5 IV Overheating was an issue but kind of fixed itself. Proximity sensor issues is what made me give up once again. Better haptics and a brighter screen are what I wanted, and I got those with this model. Too bad it is plagued with bugs too long to list.

Why Sony keep placing the 3.5mm jack on the top. If you're using your phone in portrait the headphone cable will mostly end up messing with the screen view, and also every time you've to put the phone in your pocket with a headphone connected the hand movement won't be natural 'cause you'll have to keep the jack facing up. Anyway, my big respect for Sony for keeping the 3.5mm jack just change the placement

This is a surprisingly great phone. I made sure I purchased the right model number for my region and everything works flawlessly. The battery life is great. The icons are nice and vivid and pops off the screen. I use it for light gaming and streaming and I haven't had any over hearing issues. I grew tired of larger phones and I'm glad Sony keeps making this. If you're in the U.S. make sure you get Model XQCQ62/B.

From what I've read this is an almost compact phone with a camera app being too complicated for the average user and the issues associated with the infamous snap dragon 8 gen 1. I have work arounds for the above issues but what I haven't been able to find out is if it has a notification led and if so where?
