hello, after several Samsung gamma s, I decided to test this phone, the battery life and performance is perfect and it is on top of Samsung, photos nothing special, in short it is a disappointment, it heats up a lot due to the processor. I don't buy sony anymore and I don't recommend it and the price is very exaggerated for the equipment.

Tbh I am not willing to bet on the 5 series again after the disappointing 5 III from which I want to upgrade. I think I will opt for the 1 V. Bigger but it's a better phone imo.

SoliTaire, 07 Jul 2023I like Sony Xperia but i'm confused between Galaxy... moredepends on what you want. Sony offers headphonejack, storage expansion, shutter button, pro-photo editing, 21:9 ratio, high ppi display. If that is what you search for, go for it.

What sony is not(!) good at is actually an "everyday allrounder". All other phones you mentioned can be picked up and they work. Take a photo and it will look great, watch media and it will be fine, listen to audio and you have it. Whereas with Sony you may(!) have to fiddle around with settings, but then again you will find much more settings on a sony to do so!

Also, S23 and Xiaomi 13 have better main lenses, meaning photos will be sharper. Most people prefer 16:9 displays on their phones, but if you are into watching 3 hour blockbuster movies on your phone 21:9 that sony offers is great.

The biggest Issue with sony is their update policy. You can expect 2 years of updates...that's it. Xiaomi guarantees 5 years (3 years Major updates + 5 years security updates), Samsung also 5 years (Major and(!) security). If you want a last longing phone, go for Samsung.

The Xiaomi also is the biggest and heaviest phone on this list. Dont buy it if you want a compact phone.

It seems like Sony's put the 8 gen 1 because they didn't want people to buy cheaper for the better chipset.

But anyways, why can't they make Xperia 1 IV (S) then?

Pitchwisse, 13 Jun 2023So an update, I bought the phone and have returned it withi... moreI agree with you, I currently have the Xperia 5iv for 1 month and it heats up a lot and the games freeze, disappointed with this purchase. I do not recommend this phone not to mention the price

So an update, I bought the phone and have returned it within 24 hours. The phone was sitting at 47 degrees, idling, after all the updates to the latest software - it has actually given me 1st degree burns, and I am not making this up.

I loved everything else about the device - the screen and content consumption was amazing, headphone audio was brilliant, design fits well in the hand. Unfortunately, I couldn't recommend this device due to genuine safety concerns.

I really wanna get this phone and I have been a lot of research, given the prominent overheating issue. From all the GSMarena tests I have seen so far, almost every SD8 gen 1 cpu overheats, with the Xiaomi 12 series leading the pack with throttling. Some devices like The Oppo/Oneplus series seem to preform better. The s22 series also throttles as much, if not more than the Xperia. The only thing I can conclude is that Sony has taken some extensive measures to prolong the life cycle of the unit and prevent any possible damage and tearing of hardware. I would also assume, that recording 120fps at 4k would heat up the phone significantly more than recording 30fps at 1080p and even 4k - simple math I guess. To aid this logic, understanding basic physics, if the surface of the device keeps getting hot, that means the device is trying to push the energy out of the phone, rather than keeping it inside, but I might be wrong on this one. I guess I will write more once I get the actual device and test it properly.
