Sony Xperia 5 V

I just discovered that this phone retails in Malaysia at MYR 4,999 (~$1,071) for the single 256GB trim. That is MYR 1,000 (~$214) LESS than the Apple iPhone 15 Pro 256GB. It's hard for me to believe to see the day when an Xperia sells cheaper than an iPhone, which never has been the case before.

Quicker, 28 Oct 2023Still way too big to fit in a pocket, so no thank You. Sony... moreI am still using my XZ1 compact...
I wanted to change it for a newer phone, but they are all so big.
I had considered the xperia 5iv because of features that I liked, such as not being too wide, fingerprint on the side, sd card, headphones, led (now gone :( ) but I sice I read many reviews pointing the overheating issue I decided to wait again.
Now the overheating issue solved. Having the notification led gone is sad but any other flagship got rid of it long ago.
Now with black friday 844€ on Amazon, but being this tall still makes me not be sure.
Galaxy s23 is shorter but wider, which would be worse for me. Also lacking many things.
So here I am, considering keeping my xz1 compact forever. Anyways it works pretty good, I still get 1 day of batery instead of 2. It just feels too outdated with the 4,6" screen.

Sony literally is one of the richest companies on the planet just look at the ps5 and the whole movie and camera industry btw sony doesn't need it's smartphone division it's just a showpiece for them. They probably will provide longer updates next year (technically they have too for that price)

Anonymous, 16 Nov 2023If you want 3 or 4 years os updates, you better choose the ... moreIn some countries Xperia 1V versus 1IV - two times better sales. Data from inside source. I know that you are an employee/pay troll of a competing manufacturer whose life depends on smartphones sales (Samsung, Apple, Huawei etc) but Xperia is not disappearing or going anywhere believe me. Hate will be big because Sony shows next-generation sensor that iPhone, Galaxy, Huawei do not have. First smartphone with new sensor will be Oppo :)

GoToSchool, 16 Nov 2023Any news on os updates? the 2 year thing isn't enoughIf you want 3 or 4 years os updates, you better choose the products from rich reputable companies.
Sony's phone business is almost dead now, smart people would stayaway from xperia.

Hi guys! I have some great news about next years Xperia devices! Some source( I won't say it) says some of their phones, or maybe all of them will have a huge battery upgrade from 5000 mAh to 5500 mAh!

justasmile, 13 Nov 2023The fact that you hate the removal of SD card and 3.5mm hea... moreThat's somewhat true but if Sony decided to add a better DAC on for their phones I might as well just keep using them, better than carrying an adapter for a USB port. what they really need to improve on is the software support it's simply too short as for the SD card I wouldn't mind that as long as the base model has 256 or 512gb

GoToSchool, 10 Nov 2023Yes worth the upgrade in my opinion. I am especially impres... moreThanks, yeah my battery is starting to get a little worse on the 5 II after 2 years plus the brightness of both the screen and torch have always been annoying.
I live in Poland and aren't a student but yeah, the carrier I'm with (Orange) has a combo available with headphones and was thinking of going for it.
I reckon wireless charging, eSIM, better battery and the improved brightness are a huge draw plus as long as ambient display is still in it might be worth it.
I'm also considering the 5 IV cause it's cheaper and has some of the above mentioned features.
Also the main reason for the upgrade is my cracked screen which costs about US$350 here in Poland to replace so was just thinking of plopping down money for a new phone instead.
Take care :)

andibad, 13 Nov 2023Someone agree with this suggestion is clearly marketing fan... moreThe fact that you hate the removal of SD card and 3.5mm headphone jack doesn't make everyone else 'marketing fanboy'.
There's nothing we can do about it. We have to move on and ignore them. Going for Sony just for the SD card and ability to use 3.5mm wired earphones? Nah. They have the headphone jack as there's still tools which use a 3.5mm port.
