PS All professional cameras (for photos) at now can record HDR content. Alpha 7Sm3 and Alpha 1 can output RAW video in 16-bit (Dolby Vision is 12-bit). Recorders are used mostly in broadcast video recording.

An I the only one who feels like every year Sony releases their new phones, they fail the address the key issue —PRICE— with their devices that's preventing Sony "fans" from getting them?!
Plus I'm a tad confused where this one —Xperia 5— falls.
Considering we have the Xperia 10 which has mid-range specs, is this one a slightly-above-mid-range or high-end/flagship?! And if it is a slightly-above-mid-range, why isn't it priced similarly to Google's 6, 7, or 8 offerings?!
I feel like if they did that, they'd sell a lot more and increase their market share.

HDR+ is video only, videos are filmed with recorders. Who told you that you can only watch videos filmed with this phone's camera
Jeez it's so hard talking to you, even a 3yo have good enough IQ to understand that cameras and the display are separate parts of a phone.

HDR10+ is a video standard, it has nothing to do with cameras, pictures, and image viewing. You are exposing your ignorance and you definitely aren't an expert like you claim. Having a YouTube channel nobody watches doesn't make you a tech guru.
This is marketed as 21:9 movie phone, yet it can't even playback HDR10+ movies. Nuff said, you can stop replying to me because the more you say the more you embarrass yourself with completely false claims. While I solely focused on the display, you kept bringing up stuff like camera, TV monitors and your YouTube channel to completely distract the discussion away from the focus, which is this phone has an incredibly poor display for a $999 phone

You need source/video in HDR+ to display that on screen. Sooo once again. HDR+ from Samsung camera will have better dynamic range than normal HDR from.. FX3 camera?

You seriously need to stop mixing up camera HDR with the display HDR
Computer & TV monitors also don't need to be as bright as phones because they are never used outdoors. Whereas peak brightness is the number one metric on a phone display. You can stop your futile arguments because it's clear as daylight you do not understand display technology at all.

TheSnowWinterR7, 20 Sep 2023Hopefully 10 VI fixed everything that was wrong with 10 V, ... moreThe biggest issue with this is that if they put stereo speakers, like they have, a slightly better chipset, and a high refresh rate amoled display - no one would go for the 5 lineup. I honestly believe they should come out with two phones per year. The 1 should be the flagship, and the 10 should be a slightly underpowered, smaller midranger.

N1GH7, 15 Sep 2023thanks. I already considered both zenfone and s23. I am wil... moreYou are right that video you posted does not look legit (looks like same video with different exposure posted 3 times), as for the s23, my friend has one, me being cameraman, i picked it up and immediately start playing with the camera, i wasn't impressed with the camera system overall except for that 50 mp shooter, the amount of detail was amazing. Video recording not impressed (my cousin iphone 12 has better stabilization and details and exposure)
As for the zenfone 9/10, i dont own it, idk any1 who does, from every review ive seen, the only weak point of the phone is the camera system ( coz of the size of the phone, they are limited as to what kind of optic they can put on the phone, notice there`s no telephoto).
For me if the phone doesn`t have sd card its a deal breaker, so both zenfone and s23 fall aside, and ill go for a sony, but the 5 iii (i can get it used for 300 euro) coz 1000 euros for a phone is insane, ill throw 500 more and buy a used car, and get more utility out of it, but if you have money to burn go for it.

Anonymous, 13 Sep 2023Why won't they release a North America version??? Ugh.... moreSony has a slightly if not entirely, bad relationship with the USA regarding its phone because the USA is the country where its signature-side power key + fingerprint sensor combo patent was denied in 2015, disabled for all 2015-2017 Xperias with FPS, and happened after the deals with carriers fell through with the Z4v and remained that way until 2017 before moving to back in 2018, moving to side but decoupling the function in 2019, and returning to the way it was in 2020 with a newer patent. The fingerprint and power key combo was granted to Apple in 2017 (https://www.gsmarena.com/apple_granted_patent_for_fingerprint_reader_on_the_power_key-news-25582.php) and made Sony unpleasant. Political things and factors, I said. Sony tried everything to please them, but the US just doesn't care, so Sony is probably responding by not making 5 V available in the USA officially, at least for now.
